I am defining the word Catfish. Catfish is a noun and or a verb depending on how it is used. Catfish as a noun meaning “a type of fish that has a large head and long thin parts that look like a cat's whiskers around its mouth.” Catfish as a verb meaning “a person who sets up a false personal profile on a social networking site for fraudulent or deceptive purposes.” The Washington Post https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-intersect/wp/2015/10/15/24-words-that-mean-totally-different-things-now-than-they-did-pre-internet. To me a Catfish is just a type of fish that resembles features of a cat. On another note the word catfish also means a fake person or a pretend profile. Several people that did not grow up with this modern generation only have one meaning for the word Catfish, and that’s usually just the fish. Children from the 21 century know two …show more content…
Basically you’re pretending to be someone you’re not. Synonyms for the word Catfish are liar, cheat, or a hypocrite. The word Catfish as a noun doesn’t have a positive or negative meaning. Synonyms for the noun catfish that people get it mixed up with are normally wolffish, and siluriform fish because of the whiskers around their mouth. For the verb catfish some people take it very seriously. Mainly because there is a TV show that’s names Catfish, directed by Nev Schulman and Max Joseph. Before it was a show it was a movie about Nev being catfished. Today several people reach out for his help when they want to meet someone they’ve grown feelings for but cannot meet them. They travel all around the world to help these people and to help them find out if their lover is real or not. I chose this word because depending on when you were brought up, depends on how you interpret the word. I think as you (Professor McDowell) read this paper, you found out a new meaning of the word catfish. It’s important to me because in this day in time catfishing happens a
The book has vivid imagery making the reader imaging as if her or she was their right beside him in his whole investigation. Such as “In the winter of 1978, through, a fierce blizzard hit southern Connecticut. Temperatures were often below zero and at one point it snowed for thirty-three hours straight. Perhaps it was the cold that killed the fish, or the copper sulfate I helped the caretaker drag through the pond the previous summer to manage the algal blooms, or maybe even the fishermen id noticed trespassing on the estate one day, scoping out my grounds. But whatever caused it, after that never again did I spot a living fish in that pond again.”(Greenberg 12-13). This quote shows how good his imagery, tone, and diction is, when I read it all I could think of is that storm and the pond. The author has an excellent writing style and keeps the reader wanting more. Even though the book has a lot of good things for it the only thing I would tell the author would to give more connections of him to the story. It says “The transformation of salmon and sea bass from kingly and holiday wild fish into everyday farmed variants is a trend that continues with different animals around the globe.”(Greenberg 195). In every chapter about each of the fish it gives some connections to him but it would make it even
The documentary Blackfish by Gabriela Cowperthwaite is a gripping documentary about orca whales in captivity at SeaWorld and other sea parks around the world that shows the disturbing effects that can be caused from having these animals in a place where they shouldn’t be.

Watching Eddy fish, Gus absorbs a lot of information that before was totally unseen to him. Not only about fishing, but about this woman and about himself, needing to learn from her. A fish is a creature that preceded the creation of man on this planet. Therefore, Bishop supplies the reader with a subject that is essentially constant and eternal, like life itself. In further examination of this idea the narrator is, in relation to the fish, very young, which helps introduce the theme of deceptive appearances in conjunction with age by building off the notion that youth is ignorant and quick to judge. Bishop's initial description of the fish is meant to further develop this theme by presenting the reader with a fish that is "battered," "venerable," and "homely." Bishop compares the fish to "ancient wallpaper.
The Red Lionfish (Pterois volitans) is an invasive saltwater predator that is increasing exponentially in the tropics of the western Atlantic (Benkwitt, 2013). The Lionfish invasion is causing a dramatic decline in native marine reef species due the gluttony of the lionfish.
“Just show me the tackle and give me some bait. Then watch me go fishing, the rest can wait.” Fishing is one of my favorite things to do. It is catching a fish for either food or simply for fun. You can do it by yourself to enjoy the peace and quiet or fish with others to pass the time. Many people think fishing is an old man's sport but I think of it differently. It has helped to form my values, most importantly patience.
In conclusion, both articles talks about how someone wants to belong to something or they want to fit in. In "Fish Cheeks" and "Broken Chains" it talks about how they want their apperance
In The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister tells how a beautiful, extraordinary, yet, self-centered blue fish learns that being beautiful isn’t the key to happiness. The blue fish came to find this lesson when he lost his friends. Pfister takes a simple ocean setting and explores the consequences of an individual’s arrogance toward their peers, the process of humbling of oneself, and the tremendous reward one feels when they learn to share. The story achieves these morals by the author’s use of detailed imager and also, the influence of minor characters on the antihero in order to reveal to the audience the true thematic message; selfish actions bring true happiness.
