My sincere apologies that I didn't get to say goodbye before my family and my sudden departure. I miss talking to you dearly and Trust me I was not on board with their plans and ideas of a new and rich land across the pacific, or in there words a “Utopia”.
As you knew my family was struggling, father had just lost his job in the wool mill and feared that more work would be scarce to come by, after three weeks of being jobless our family started to realise that the only option to bring a few pounds into the family would be sending me and my three brothers to work in one of the vast factories that surrounded London. Sadly New Zealand was not what me and my family were expecting ,once we past the beach all that we could see was dense bush land, this was different from the lush green hills we had all imagined but we all then set upon clearing land for us to live. But at least it is far cleaner then London but I can not say that I am not slightly disappointed with the lack of similarities between advertisements and reality it doesn't quite match the utopia we imagined . Sadly the end of our journey did not come free of death after a week of living in our new settlement one of the crew passed on. We buried him near the beach that we landed on. I half expected that we would set him off to sea since thats what we would of done if someone had done if someone had died on the ship. Recently people in our settlement are telling stories of strange men and women called maori “ the supposed natives of the land” that have been spotted approaching our settlement, as not seeing this my self I am not sure what to make of these current rumours, but it still scares me and I often became nervous at night and feel like they were watching me in the shadows, I just hope that these rumours stay

As Mustapha says to John in a later conversation about happiness in the society, “being contented has none of the glamour of a good fight against misfortune, none of the picturesque of a struggle with temptation, or a fatal overthrow by passion or doubt” (Huxley 221). There is no strong desire to obtain something, especially regarding emotional relationships, and thus no strong desire to change. Adding that to how the community offers many recreational activities to fulfill social and consumer needs, focus is distributed widely and the citizens become compliant with happiness because they have to reason to change their lifestyles. Imagine a world where everything is controlled by the government. Imagine a world where science, literature, religion, and even family, do not exist. Imagine a world where citizens are conditioned to accept this. This is exactly how the world is portrayed in Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. The focus of the World State is on society as a whole rather than on individuals. Some characters from the novel have a harder time accepting the conditioning. Through these characters, we learn the true cost of a government-dominated society. In Brave New World, Huxley conveys that a totalitarian government will provide happiness and peace by abolishing individuality and free thinking.
All humans have different views on certain topics. It is one of the blessings of being individuals. The view one person has may not agree with the view the rest of society has. These are typically the people that lead revolutions, the people that start new ideas. Authors write individuals into their works to show a complexity of views on many variations of topics. The common view of life and death in Hamlet and Brave New World is opposed by the atypical view of the individual, leading to a higher truth about the novel.
Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World portrays a society in which science has clearly taken over. This was an idea of what the future could hold for humankind. Is it true that Huxley’s prediction may be correct? Although there are many examples of Huxley’s theories in our society, there is reason to believe that his predictions will not hold true for the future of society.
Working at this Hawaiian plantation is dreadful and overly exhausting. I feel like quitting every single day, but I have to make money to come home to Japan. I would do absolutely anything to see all of you again, I’m working as hard as I can to come home to you Okaasan (Mother) and Otousan (Father). Okaasan please take care of Otousan and the whole family. I had to leave because my fiance in Hawaii saved enough money for me to travel 4,801 miles from Japan to Hawaii to be with him and share a life with him. I also agreed to work on the plantation he did. Another reason why I left was because we kept fighting at home and I couldn’t take it anymore, that was my worst mistake I ever made.
In Brave New World by Aldous Huxley and “The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas” by Ursula K. Le Guin, there are many ways that a reader can read these stories and see the differences between them. A further breakdown of both of these stories will show how they both contradict social classes and political ideologies of their time. Brave New World challenges societal structures by presenting the idea that a totalitarian style of government will create the feeling of peace and safety that people are looking for. At the same time “The ones who walk away from Omelas” is challenging political ideologies with what seems as a Utopian society that follows in the steps of a communist style government.
In this world where people can acquire anything they need or want, we have to wonder, “Is the government controlling us?” Both the governments in A Brave New World and in the United States of America offer birth control pills and have abortion clinics that are available for everyone, thus making birth control pills and abortion operations very easy to acquire. Although both governments offer birth control pills and abortion clinics, A Brave New World’s government requires everyone to take the pills and immediately get an abortion when pregnant. This in turn shows us that A Brave New World’s government is controlling the population and the development of children. China is one of the few countries that currently have control of the development of children. In controlling the development of its children, China is also controlling the population levels. In any country, controlling the amount of children a single family can have can dramatically decrease the population levels. Just by having birth control pills and abortion clinics there for anybody to take advantage of shows that the involvement of either government is already too high.
Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World illustrates a colorful, fantastic universe of sex and emotion, programming and fascism that has a powerful draw in a happy handicap. Some people say the Brave New World is no longer relevant to our time because of it being written over 70 years ago. Also because it being so old, it is outdated for our living conditions and social ways have changed a big amount since the book was written and published. This statement is not true because this novel is still very relevant in our modern society for multiple reasons. One reason this story is still relevant is because it has some of the same community goals as our modern day. In Brave New World, everyone is told that they are in the best group and are doing the easiest and best work out of all groups and are told they are happy to be in their specific group than any other group.
In Brave New World, Aldous Huxley deftly creates a society that is indeed quite stable. Although they are being mentally manipulated, the members of this world are content with their lives, and the presence of serious conflict is minimal, if not nonexistent. For the most part, the members of this society have complete respect and trust in their superiors, and those who don’t are dealt with in a peaceful manner as to keep both society and the heretic happy. Maintained by cultural values, mental conditioning, and segregation, the idea of social stability as demonstrated in Brave New World is, in my opinion, both insightful and intriguing.
There were quite a few changes made from Aldous Huxley’s, Brave New World to turn it into a “made for TV” movie. The first major change most people noticed was Bernard Marx’s attitude. In the book he was very shy and timid toward the opposite sex, he was also very cynical about their utopian lifestyle. In the movie Bernard was a regular Casanova. He had no shyness towards anyone. A second major deviation the movie made form the book was when Bernard exposed the existing director of Hatcheries and Conditioning, Bernard himself was moved up to this position. In the book the author doesn’t even mention who takes over the position. The biggest change between the two was Lenina, Bernard’s girlfriend becomes pregnant and has the baby. The screenwriters must have made this up because the author doesn’t even mention it. The differences between the book and the movie both helped it and hurt it.
Huxley 's Brave New World is an arrogant vision of a future that is cold and discouraging. The science fiction novel is dystopian in tone and in subject matter. Paradox and irony are the dominant themes used within the novel to suggest the negative impact of excessive scientific and technological progress on man and his relationship with the natural world, very similar to today 's society. It links to the title which was created from the Shakespearean play called The Tempest using the famous quote ‘O’ Brave New World’ but instead of referring to an island paradise, it now describes a nightmare of a place full of mockery for being equal and overbearing control among one another.
If New Zealand is to see more growth in tourism we must try and make the country more attractive to visit. More flights, low visa requirements, favorable exchange rates are all facilitators that will make New Zealand more appealing. With a high level of promotions overseas that will motivate tourists to think of our country as a destination which will be able to satisfy their needs.
