Essay On Birth Order Theory

Birth order theory has to do with where at in the birth order of you and your siblings are and how
that affects your personality. It is believed that birth order has an effect on your psychological
development. It is also believed that your birth order can have an effect on your intelligence level. My
parents had three children. My brother, then a year later my sister, and two years later me. As I was
researching about birth order I read the traits that are most associated with the last born. I came to the
realization that I did not fit most of the traits. I have picked the five traits that I thought did not reflect me.
One of the more common traits I found while researching was financial responsibility. I believe
that for my age I am very

financially responsible. I got my first job when I was a sophomore in high
school. Ever since then I have continued to have a steady job for a steady income. I bought my first car
mainly on my own with some help from my parents. I now own my second car that I paid for. I moved
out after high school graduation when I was 18. I had to pay my own bills. I had a roommate so we split
things. I paid half of the rent, the electric bill, and my share of groceries. I also had to pay for my gas and
car payment. The only thing my parents paid for was my insurance on my car and my phone bill. I have
also started to pay for my college. I started college in 2013 for a year, the year after that I worked and
started to pay off my first student loan. Therefore I feel like I have had a pretty good hold on my financial
status for some time now.
I found that most last born are risk takers. I am by no means a risk taker, if it is something scary
you can count me out! I am not one that likes adrenaline. I do not like amusement rides, especially the
ones that go really high, really fast, or upside down. About the only ones that I like are the ones that are
close to the ground and go semi-fast. I do not like going fast in any type of vehicle. I don’t like driving at
night, when it is raining, when it is snowing, basically anything that isn’t normal weather. I guess in the
long run you could say I am a “scaredy cat” and don’t like to have any fun.
For birth order theory they decided that most last born are self-centered because the parents give
them whatever they want and do not punish them as much. I feel that I am not self-centered. My first job
was a dietary aide in a nursing home, so right from the get go I have been helping people. After that I
became a CNA and then a CMA. I take care of people all day, it is my job. I help people that cannot help
themselves. I help them get dressed, take showers, brush their teeth and hair, put on makeup, help them
eat, help them go to the bathroom, give them their medicine, all types of daily activities. You cannot be a
self-centered person and do this kind of job, it just doesn’t work that way.

I found that the youngest children are not responsible because the parents and or siblings feel it is
easier to just do the work themselves so they don’t give the youngest any responsibilities around the
house. I feel that I am a very responsible person for my age. Although I went to college for a year and
made some mistakes I am going back now and getting my life on track. I have gotten my foot in the door
of the healthcare field by getting my CNA and CMA. I also feel that I am responsible since I moved out at
18 and have been living on my own since then. I am responsible in the way that I get my assignments
done on time and pay my bills on time.
My final trait was works well alone/center of attention this was a popular trait because the
youngest are usually the last ones at home, and the parents may be bored from the other kids. I would
rather work in a group or with another person, usually it is more productive. If you have more brains and
hands it generally makes it easier. If you have more brains then you have more ways to solve a problem. I
do not like being the center of attention or put on the spot. I believe I am a very secluded person,

generally like to keep to myself unless I am around my friends or family. If I am around people I don’t
know or people that I do not know very well I tend to stay quiet unless I am specifically asked a question.
During a class I do not speak out in a discussion unless I am certain that my point will not make me look
stupid.
In conclusion I found that I did not match most of the traits that I found for the youngest children
in the birth order theory. I also figured out while researching that my siblings, the first and middle born,
that I did not believe that they matched most of their traits either. I do believe that most people probably
have many of those characteristics that are associated with their birth order. I believe that your location,
environment, and the way your parents raise you has to do with your personality and that is why I did not
match many of my birth order trait
