In life, people often take their surroundings for granted. Most people have let their surroundings become just another part of their life, and because of this, they forget how great the world around them can be. I believe that from time to time, people should just sit down and think about how nice their life can be and take in their surroundings. A good time of year to do this would be around Thanksgiving. This is a time of peace and a perfect opportunity to thank those that have in some way or another made your life better, even if it is only slightly. It’s naturally a time of self reflection for everyone which allows people to realize how great the world really is.
In my life, I have many things to be thankful for. For example, I have my dad, who has spent nearly my entire life raising me and my sister by himself after my mother’s passing away. It’s such a routine thing at this point to expect certain things from him, but it’s important that I stop to think about how important it is for him to do what he has done and is doing for me. It truly is impressive how he’s done so much for me and my sister all these years, and I am very grateful for what he’s done.

While most students don’t think twice about their school and just say that it’s more of a burden on their life than anything, and I am a victim of this mindset as well, I do truly think that schools are an important part of my life. If it weren’t for my school, I wouldn’t really get the social interaction that I need in life. School is a gathering place for me and all of my friends, and although we don’t get to constantly talk with each other because of class work, we get those few moments everyday where we get to converse and make plans. School also helps me build on my current knowledge of the world and how things in the real world will
Gratitude is a gift that the earth urgently needs. Consistent gratitude is a form of recognition of the gift and the giver. Daily gratitude can help eliminate the need for more and practicing more of only what we need. Gratitude leads to a society of contentment rather than one that's always in need of more. We human individuals have conventions for appreciation; we apply them formally to each other. We say thank you. “We understand that receiving a gift
Common curtesy has us saying “Thanks” to the point that we may have lost the intentions associated with the response. W.S. Merwin sums up this anomaly in his poem “Thanks”, saying “with nobody listening we are saying thank you” (Merwin 29). We say thanks for so many meaningless things that it no longer carry’s the true intent of the speaker. Instead it is a response to acknowledge the receiver rather than giving true thanks. This repetition allows for questions regarding what are we truly thankful for, and how we make this known to the receiver. Carl Dennis, in his poem, “Thanksgiving Letter From Harry”, struggles with this question. Not seeing himself thankful for all the negative atrocities around him, he tries to find something he can stand up and be thankful for with limited success, “I’m, thankful today I don’t reside in a country/My country has chosen to liberate” (Dennis 2-3). Generic overuse of such a simple, but meaningful word, has made saying “thanks” somewhat mundane, making it harder to express their gratitude to the receiver seamlessly.
School allows many opportunities to grow as a person, and show your personality. Within class I am always an active participant, I always add my input in discussion, and work to answers questions. I have always maintained good grades I was placed in advanced courses beginning in fourth grade and within all 3 years of highschool I have earned a weighted
When I recognize the state of gratitude in which my heart is enveloped, I immediately embrace the Grace of God! I would never know true gratitude if it were not for God’s grace.
School is something we all know and understand. Regardless of whether we wanted it or not, we have all passed through school. School is, first and foremost, a place designed for people to go and learn. It is a place to better yourself, to learn facts, discipline, to learn social and economic skills. But for all that school is intended for, people go for different reasons. Some are hardworking and academically minded, they go to learn, to set a good foundation for their future, with an aim of becoming successful and accomplished in their career. Others are carefree, going for the social side, to be popular, have lots of friends, and in the end just to have a good time. For others it can even be a place of safety, a place where they can get
Thanksgiving is undoubtedly a holiday to celebrate family. It also celebrates many other things, as the name suggests. Thanksgiving is a holiday to give thanks for the things that a person has rather than to wish for more things. Accomplishments and shiny cars are not part of the essence of Thanksgiving, as these do not have the inherent humbleness expected of the holiday. This air of humility and frugality, harkening back to the days of the pilgrims and Native Americans, is probably what lead Ellen Goodman to describe the holiday as a suppressing of individualism. However, the rift between individuality and family that Goodman describes in Thanksgiving is not as deep as she makes it seem, and Thanksgiving Day is hardly the only day of the
During thanksgiving I really like to reflect on everything I have and it’s just a great way to remind myself to be more generous and to hold what and who I love dearly and show them that I care about them. Especially during this time of year when everything can be very stressful with the end of the semester and some mid terms, it gives me a chance to think on the less fortunate who don’t even get an education and would love the chance to get what I have. I’m so thankful for my availability to music and the abundance of caring people in my life with so many opportunities for me right at this moment. I realize that a lot of people take everything they have for granted and honestly everyone does this from time to time, I really like to just bluntly tell people that I care about them and that I’m thankful for them to be in my life at this point, even if it's just to remind myself to be more grateful towards them. Just think about what you have and be grateful for the good
School is a huge representation of one’s character and work ethic. I think it shows a lot about a person when they put effort into their school work and grades, because it reflects how hard they are willing to work for their goals and aspirations. Grades are extremely important to me, so I work hard to do my best and achieve my goals. I plan on furthering my education
It was a nice and sunny day. The sun was shining bright and the leaves on the trees gave a vibrant color of orange and red creating a magical fairy tale. The leaves on the ground dancing every time the wind howled. Families all around gathering together under one roof on this special day creating a delicious feast meant to feed a whole kingdom. The food being cooked filling the air with a spectacular smell of pumpkin, cinnamon, turkey, and other spectacular smells. The magical day that brings families together is known all across the world as Thanksgiving. This Thanksgiving while playing fetch with my owner’s family I learned that not complaining for one day can bring families closer together.
Let’s flash back in time to before our college days. Back to then we had lunch trays filled with rubbery chicken nuggets, stale pizza, and bags of chocolate milk. A backpack stacked with Lisa Frank note books, flexi rulers, and color changing pencils. The times where we thought we wouldn’t make it out alive, but we did. Through all the trials and tribulations school helped build who I am today and shaped my future. From basic functions all the way to life-long lessons that helped shape my character.
There’s a lot of reasons in my life to be thankful for. One of the main things I’m blessed about is being an athlete. Without sports I wouldn't know what to do with my life. I’m so thankful for being blessed with no serious injuries that I’ve had to stop for. Because I play multiple sports my chances of getting hurt are more likely to happen. Of course I have minor injuries, but I’m lucky enough to not have menacing ones. Another thing to be appreciative of is the coaches I’ve had and the teammates. They have turned into family and I wouldn't want anyone else by my side. I'm also thankful for getting to state in two sports. Some people don't even get to go to state for one sport. State is a breathtaking experience and I can't wait to see what
Have you ever asked yourself, "Why do we have to go to school?", or, "What's the point?" . School can teach you more things than you might realize, and today I will share some of the ways it has helped me. School has taught me a lot more than I expected I would have by the ninth grade. I am excited to see what school has to offer me next. School has helped me with many things, including developing my life, teaching me important values, and helping me develop my
because that really should be the most important thing in my life. I like to think of school as a
I am grateful for my life in many ways and for many reason, I was born 5 weeks premature and one of twins. Though my twin did not survive long enough for me to know him it gave me a purpose to try new things. Whenever I am scared of a new experience such as snow-boarding I think about how lucky I am to be alive and well. This thought helps me to spread my wings and embrace the unknown. Even simple things make me feel thankful, such as running in the rain or taking a walk with my dog or just a lazy Sunday afternoon with myself makes me think how great it is to be alive and here. I have always delight in the small moments in life and to think that they could never exist for me is depressing. Furthermore, being able to share my thoughts and feeling with people I love is something that brings me great joy.
Having explained the reason most children have become disheartened at the thought of school, I now turn my attention to the students who do realize school’s educational value. These are the students that will continue to prosper throughout their lives because they realize the extreme importance of education. There is a secret, yet not so secret, motivation behind their determination to exceed standards and expectations in school. The secret they withhold is their overwhelming desire to be successful in the future.
