In the early times, before the beginning of human civilization and development of philosophy, people believed in the idea that Gods, who basically controlled every individual aspect of human existence, controlled the world. Some primitive people believed in the idea of Animism, or Hylozoism. (The belief that everything in the universe, especially material objects, have some kind of sole or is a living being.) These people believed that rocks, trees, and water had some kind of sole. Animism can still be seen today in Native American tribes as well as the Aboriginal people of Australia.
Although the Greek culture didn’t believe in Animism, an Ionian named Thales adopted this idea in his own way. Thales was born in the Greek city-state of Ionia in the mid 620’s(BC.) Thales did not only study knowledge philosophy, but also practiced science, history, engineering, geography, and politics. Thales was the first of his time to propose theories of a primary substance that causes change, and supports the universe.
Thales believed that water was this substance, and the essence of life. He also believed that it was made up of small Gods. Although his theories didn’t prove to be right, such as spontaneous generation, or the theory that earthquakes were caused by waves, Thales is considered to be the father of philosophy.
Anaximander was another Ionian who happened to be a philoso...
He believes that something must have created the universe, as it could not have come from nothing. He believed that God was the creator. In Exodus 20:11, we read that God created everything in just six days - and that this was inscribed with God's own finger onto a stone tablet.
I argue that there are three solutions to the question “Under what conditions do objects come into and go out of existence:
It is no secret that in society no matter where a person goes they will be surrounded by influences of news media and social media. There are televisions in restaurants, gyms, and homes, and on them there is a constant stream of twenty-four hour news. Often times what is being reported on television, or through news apps, is being presented primarily for an entertainment purpose. This is what George Saunders analyzes in his 2007 essay, “The Braindead Megaphone,” in which he criticizes not only the news media system, but also society as a whole, for the way news is received and accepted. He speaks to the fact that news media has an expectation that society doesn’t reflect, or have critism, for what is reported to them. Society accepts what they hear, because it is coming form a reliable source. He says, “Does stupid, near-omnipresent media
Hollywood is constantly altering the plot of novels to appeal to certain crowds. Sometimes these alterations can be beneficial to the storyline while other times they can detract from it. Not too long ago, on May 1, 2013, The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, was made into a movie for the second time. The novel, being one of America’s most famous works, set high standards for the movie. This film featuring Leonardo DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby, Tobey Maguire as Nick Carraway, and Carey Mulligan as Daisy Buchanan, turned out to be very popular. As many expected the director, Baz Luhrmann, made several changes to the original story. Some changes made were ample others were microscopic. Each one of these changes were made for a reason, but did the
1A). In this false dichotomy, Rebarb fails to recognize that like the rest of us, health professionals are only human. They cannot remember everything and know what to do all of the time. Health professionals understand their job, but these checklists help by giving all information needed while assisting a client. Furthermore, not only is Rebarb misinformed about how checklists can assist in client care, but also surgeons in different
There are many positive aspects associated with the arts and it is important people are aware of these benefits. According to Smithrim and Opitis, “reported benefits of the arts include the development of the imagination (Greene, 1995), greater motivation to learn (Csikszentmihalyi, 1997), increased student creativity, lower dropout rates, and increased social skills (Catterall, 1998; Luftig, 1995)” (110). These advantages can possibly set a student up for am extremely successful life. They should be embraced and utilized as opposed to overlooked and unmentioned.

The arts has been a big part of our history; it help shape our society. Many students who loves art, music, and theater are well aware that the art education in public schools might not be part of the school’s curriculum, due to the cutting down of the budget. As a result, debates arise on what curriculum should disappear and stay. One of the choices is the art education because many believes that art education isn’t important, and the schools should focus more on classes that are important to students like mathematics, science, and reading, so that the United States could compete with the other nations when it comes to academics. However, there has been a lot of research, which proves that art education is a necessity to a student’s success
Arts education is very important. One of the reasons it’s important is because it boosts test scores. The National Endowment for the Arts, an independent agency of the United States Federal Government, issued a report linking extensive arts access among at-risk youths to positive academic and civic outcomes (Robelen, 2012). This means the kids who have access to the arts have had improved scores in academics, and played a role in their community. Mississippi State University states that schools that effectively implement
The means of communication can be informative and entertaining. There are many pros and cons when it comes to deciphering the effects of mass media. It serves to alert and inform its audiences about newsworthy occurrences using the shock factor, worst-case scenario circumstances. It also plays a key role in defining our cultural tastes, establishing our national identity and...
While a report’s main focus is to sum up the days events, relating in general to politics in the United States, opinions are discussed. And although this should not be what audiences focus on, it is. The influence of Journalists to the TV audience is inevitable. Although they present up-to-date news, their input and analytical perspective is what people tend to capture and convey to the public. In a sense, they create a world of news and controversy through their words. Moreover, Chris Matthews does just this in his nightly program of fiery debates and overviews of the day’s political spectrum. Through inside sources, factual debating, gaining trust from the audience and revealing specific opinion, he influences audiences nationwide, and in a way, takes over the minds of the audiences and the media, while still being a journalist and, at the end of the day, just “doing his job”.
“Art is an irreplaceable way of understanding and expressing the world” (Evans). This quote from Dana Gioia gives a brief explanation of why the arts are important to society. Arts can be classified as visual arts, theatre and drama, choir, and band or orchestra (Metla). There are a diminishing number of schools providing these classes and that is an injustice to present and future students. There is a direct link between adults who have taken classes in the arts and their success in other life skills and situations. Students learn skills from these classes that they can apply to many other parts. More schools in the United States should offer students a variety of art classes to incorporate into their schedules.
