Working with animals is something I have always wanted to do. Animals are my life and my passion. I have loved being around animals ever since I was little and I have never been scared to be around any type of species including snakes and lizards. A couple of years ago I actually got the opportunity to go to a summer camp where I took a zoology class. This class consisted of various things such as holding snakes, bugs, jellyfish, crabs, and axolotls. This experienced just fueled my passion for animals even more and I wanted a job that I would be able to work with animals. Animal care and service workers is the type of job I want to go into; they get to bathe, feed, groom, exercise, and do other things with all sorts of animals.

and service workers do basic and sometimes specialized care for different pets and nonfarm animals. Basic care for them include the following: feeding and watering them, cleaning equipment and living space, monitoring and recording of behavior, diet, and physical condition, making sure they are not injures or ill, exercising them, groom them, and possibly train them. There are many different types of jobs in the animal care and service worker area, which gives many opportunities for people to find the right job for them. Nonfarm animal caretakers usually work with pet type animals, such as dogs and cats. The usually attend to the basic need for them, but more experienced caretakers help vets operations or shots. They may also have to keep records about all of the animals, answer questions and help educate people about the animals. Animal trainers as the title suggest train animals in a variety of different areas. They may train the animals for obedience, performance, riding, security, or assisting people with disabilities. The trainer has to get the animals use to human command, body language, and voice. Dogs and horses are usually the animals to train, but trainers can train different mammals such as dolphins or seals. There are different trainers too; some train dogs to assist people in need, some train them to compete in dog shows, or even to help veterinarians. Groomer specialize in how the animals look and may even help vets realize injuries they did not know were there. The groomers mostly work with dogs of every breed, but sometimes they work with cats. They cut, trim, and style pet’s fur according to the owner and they clip nails, clean ears, and bathe the pets. Some groomers may have their own business or work with one and some even are mobile and go to clients houses to groom the pets. There are also grooms, which are different than groomers because they work with just horses. They work at the stables and they feed, groom, and exercise the horses. Their duties include putting the saddle on and off the horse, cooling them off after a ride, and cleaning them off. They also clean the stables and equipment, organize the equipment and food, and help train the horses. There are keepers who take care of zoo animals by planning diets and feeding and monitoring them. The keepers also clean the animals living area, track the animal’s behavior, and make sure they are not injured. Keepers may get the chance to work with just one species or if the zoo is bigger they may need to work with multiple species. A lot of the time keepers answer questions to the public if they have any. Kennel attendants and pet sitter are very much in like because they both look after the pet when their owner leaves. Kennel attendants take care of the animals the owners have boarded into a kennel and pet sitters go into the client's home to allow the animals to stay in familiar surroundings. They attend to the basic needs of the animals as well, including the grooming of the pets. A lot of animal care and service workers love their jobs, but there are some negative attributes that go along with the positive. In 2014 there were nearly 241,600 jobs in the animal care and service worker area; around 85% were nonfarm animal caretakers and the other 15% were animal trainers. As already stated earlier the different conditions these caretakers work in could be a good thing, but some of them may be forced to travel for work and not everyone like that. Also the jobs can include a lot of physical work including cleaning and moving that not everyone is fit for. Some caretakers may have to deal with some depressing tasks such as helping veterinarians euthanize injured or unwanted pets. Caretakers also take the risk of being bitten, scratched, or kicked when working with scared animals. They might accidentally hurt the animal too when cleaning or restraining the animal. Also a lot of animal shelters and zoos need people who can work whenever so their schedules may never be the same and they have to work irregular hours. Caretakers pull through it though because they get to work with animals and create bonds that they will never forget. If someone was looking to get a job as an animal care or service worker some positions would not be as difficult to get as other positions. Most service worker positions such as caretakers, groomers, and kennel attendants just require a high school diploma or something equivalent to that. Other positions such as zoo keepers and marine mammal trainers require a bachelor’s degree in the related field. Groomers and dog trainers usually take different community college classes to get the necessary experience they need for that specific job. Other than those requirements, they usually learn with on-the- job training to get that experience and they can even earn certification as being masters in their areas. Most of employers in these fields want the employee to have worked with animals and experience with them so they are not going into something completely new. Employers also look for certain qualities they want in their employees; compassion, customer-service skills, detail oriented, patience, physical stamina, problem-solving skill, reliability, and trustworthiness are the main qualities they are looking for. The salary and pay for animal care and service workers is not the absolute best, but it is not terrible either. In May of 2015, the average salary was $26,610, the highest was more than $57,170, and at the lowest it was $18,160. In the same month and year the average salary for nonfarm animal caretakers was $21,010, the highest was more than $34,780, and at the lowest it was $17,160. There is a good outlook on growth in this field though. Altogether the employment of animal care and service workers is looking to grow 11% from 2014 to 2024, which is faster than most occupations. There is a greater demand for animal care as more and more people in the world get pets and employment in these areas are expected to grow with the demand. There are a lot of good job openings for animal care and service workers, but certain jobs such as marine mammal and horse trainers and zookeepers will be looking at more competition and not as many openings making it more difficult. There are many different opportunities to get a job in animal care and service working positions that do not require a lot of education to do so.
I would not mind going the extra mile and getting that four year bachelor’s degree to get a higher level job that pays more, if that is really what I wanted to do. I have a lot of experience with all different species of animals from going to camps, zoos, safaris, sanctuaries, and locally owned miniature “zoos”. I am also graduating next year and after that I am planning on going to college for four years to get a bachelor’s degree in biology. This will allow me to get those higher level position such as zookeeper, animal trainer, and marine mammal trainer. Even though I have a good amount of experience working with animals already I am more than ready to do some on-the-job training. This will help me prepare for situations I have never dealt with before and maybe even help me get to a higher level position. My outlook for actually getting a job is pretty high, so I might have a great chance in getting all the experience I need. In getting a job in the animal care or service working area, I would complete my all time goal of getting a job I love and working with many different animals I love. I will work my best to complete these goal to become an animal care and service worker so I can have a job and life that I am so passionate
about.
Service dogs are a low risk treatment, that can replace dangerous medication and expensive devices. For a purebred service dog is $20,000, however there are non profit organizations that provide service dogs at a much lower cost, but there is usually a long wait list (“Costs”). ASDA (Autism Service Dogs of America) sets a donation goal of $13,500 for every approved family, which is always achieved. Another option is buying the dog from a breeder and paying for the training and accessories. If a puppy is purchased from a dog breeder for around $2,500, in two years time the dog would have costed around $5,200 dollars. The rest of the $ 2,700 comes from vet bills, service gear, training expenses, food, treats, and toys. (“Service”) Getting a dog from a rescue center will cost about the same amount because usually vet bills and training expenses are incrases. However in the long run the owner is most likely to spend more money on a rescue dog, because they often have more issues, physically and mentally which cause them to wear out faster. There is no health insurance that cover service animals. Service dogs however do replace the nasty side effects of some medication, and devices that won't provide companionship. Although the average hearing aid costs $4,000, hearing aides need replaced as the person grows, and need repairs as well, putting the total
I have a plan to attend college once I graduate high school. I have not yet achieved that goal, but I hope to. I want to attend a two year school and study to be a Vet Technician. Hopefully once I do graduate college, I’ll finally be able to work with animals, My dream career. I’m unsure if I want to keep it simple and work in a shelter, or if I want to save lives and become a vet, or perhaps work as a zookeeper. Growing up. I used to always dream about opening my own “Pet Hotel”, maybe someday I could do that. Honestly, I don’t care much about what I do, as long as I’m happy doing it.
Service dogs can help disabled people with many different tasks. Service dogs when in public are often seen wearing a specialized vest or tag identifying the animals as a services dog when they are working. Service dogs are allowed in places that other pets are not allowed to go. Any dog can be a service dog. A dog does not have to be specially trained to be a service dog. There are many different kinds of service dogs. I am not talking about breeds, I am talking about the different jobs that service dogs do.
I would like this job because I could be In a office writing, conducting census projects, research studies, and conducting more experiments. But I could also go in to field work. Travel around the world to study these animals and there eco systems. The way some animals eat, the way they communicate, the way they feed. I could learn all these things while being in the field as an animal biologist. Even after being in the office and the field, I could still work in a zoo and have one on one with some animals.
You wake up in the hospital, look around, and find a doctor hovering nearby declaring that you have just suffered through a heart attack; affirming that if not for your dog, you would have died. You remember back to earlier that day: sitting on the couch, feeling a little off, hearing your dog barking, sensing him nudging you, going to the phone to call the ambulance, and having your dog by your side until you were safe inside the aluminum walls of the emergency vehicle. Although it sounds abnormal that a dog would be the one to save someone’s life, situations similar to the one above are not uncommon. Dogs and other household pets have been shown to be able to detect medical emergencies, including heart attacks and seizures, in their owners.
Picture blind or deaf not knowing where you’re walking. Not knowing when a baby cries or a smoke alarm rings. But then picture having a helping companion like a dog to help you, so you can have an idea of where you are going, or a mini hose to help you build up your muscles. But they’re not the only helpers, for example a capuchin monkey they are very intelligent so they can do many things for you. As you can see my opinion is that, we should allow other animals in public spaces like, capuchin monkeys or even a snake. My first reason why we should allow more animals are that there are many things that other animals can do to help that others can’t, for example a capuchin monkey has thumbs so it can pick up tools and other things, but unlike the capuchin monkey a dog or a mini horse do not possess that ability because they don't have thumbs. My second reason why we should allow more animals is that many people have allergies and can be allergic to horses or dogs but snakes
Notice to Landlords he purpose of this page is to educate landlords who have tentants that have disabilities and require a service animal. • I want you to define what a service dog is and how it pertains to housing. • I want a clear example of lawsuits a landlord can face by rejecting an applicatation with a service dog • Talk about no extra rent/deposits/fees • Talk about the importance of dogs good behavior and that it cannot be disruptive, excessive barking, making a mess etc Instead of learning the hard way and getting in trouble with the law for discrimination, learn about the different kinds of assistance animals and what conditions must exist before you are required to allow them into your rental property. What is reasonable accommodation?
¨And remember, comrades, your resolution must never falter. No argument must lead you astray. Never listen when they tell you that Man and the animals have a common interest, that the prosperity of the one is the prosperity of the others. It is all lies. Man serves the interests of no creature except himself. And among us animals let there be perfect unity, perfect comradeship in the struggle. All men are enemies. All animals are comrades.¨ (Orwell 10)
One of the hardest decisions I will ever make is what to do as a career when I get out of high school. However, with consideration, I have decided that zoology is the best career for me. I have always loved animals and been intrigued in their natural behavior. I love to make discoveries, and that is a very important part of what I would do as a zoologist. Math and Science are my two favorite subjects in school; this makes doing research fun for me because I love science. I would be happy in a job where I am be steadily employed. In a career I would like to get recognition for my work, though this is not imperative. Good working conditions are a must in a field of my choice. I am a hardworking individual, and I believe passionately
Working with animals has been a lifelong ambition of mine. The wellbeing of the creatures that we share this planet with is an ideal that I prioritize above anything else. I want to make a difference in the lives of animals in need, and I needed a career path that would allow me to pursue this passion. With this wish in mind, I chose to become a zoologist and to seek my degree at Southeast Missouri State University.
I think still getting the zoo experience, would be great, to say that I have done that, but I think right now my main focus is going to be rehabilitation. I also have been considering looking into a vet tech job, to get more of the medical side of rehabilitation, and to get me more experience administering medications, and handing injured animals, right now I think a canine and feline veterinarian office would be good, with eventually moving forward to exotics, and bigger mammals like cattle etc. I feel I am most helpful, and most rewarding where I can help rehabilitation injured wildlife to return them back to their natural habitat, along with education the community about ways they can help in their own backyard, I think that is also a major part to rehabilitation Is making the community aware of what can be done to avoid injuries to wildlife.
Animals are so often forgotten when it comes to the many different levels of basic rights. No, they can’t talk, or get a job, nor can they contribute to society the way humans can. Yet they hold a special place in their owners’ hearts, they can without a doubt feel, show their different emotions, and they can most definitely love. In recent years there has been a massive increase in animal rights awareness, leading to a better understanding and knowledge in the subject of the humane treatment of animals. Where do humans draw the line between the concern of equality, and simple survival?
Many people have never realized there are 3 to 4 million healthy and adoptable cats and dogs that are euthanized every year in shelters (Rescue Ink, 2013). Kill shelters all around the world have a catch and kill technique that is an easy and quick way to keep cities disease-free. Approximately 8-12 million companion animals enter animal shelters nationwide every year and approximately 5-9 million are euthanized, 60% of dogs and 70% of cats (Petfinder, 2003). We need to come up with solutions and ways that we can start reducing animal kill shelters around the world. It all comes down to money, and overpopulation.
Imagine that one day, your family takes you for a ride in the car. Everything is normal, but you notice that the atmosphere is different. You pull up to an unfamiliar building. They lead you to a door, where they hand you to a new, scary person. Where is your family going?
The first quotation listed describes an event in the novel where two animals, Snowball and Napoleon, fight over the future of the animal run farm. Napoleon, who emerged throughout the novel as a corrupt opportunist, sensed a threat in his political opponent, Snowball, and used his private police force to attack and drive Snowball off of the farm. After the attack, Napoleon stood with his private police force and began to declare new laws to be made on his behalf. This event contributes to George Orwell’s message about tyranny by developing ideas of socialism through the eyes of Napoleon and the farm. This event in the novel is very important because it represented the early warning signs of socialism and tyranny on the farm.
