Love, a normal human emotion, right? What if the right to love the person of choice was taken away, in order make society perfect. In the dystopian book Matched written by Ally Condie,is a society driven for a perfect life for its people without any criminals or diseases. The government Who chooses who love, the criminals can never find love or be in love. Imagine at the age sixteen you are taken to the matching banquet, this happen to our hero, Cassia who states, “I wait, holding my compact in one hand and my mother’s in the other, her palm feels sweaty.. But before his death, she tells him about the ‘glitch’ at first he didn’t understand but soon understood and accepted it.But as i said before he was taken away, just like the other thing that brought her happiness her green dress, so bright, and shiner than her plain clothes a ugly brown color, that dress was the first and last colorful clothes she will ever wear. Once a timid and obedient girl turned into a strong willed girl as shown by the quote.
In the book there are three important symbols that are shown: A action, A object, And a phrase. These symbols are very important for example this action, when Cassia stands up for ky saying that “he should be the one to decies… not me. Not you. Let him chose” (pg. 340). That shows her devotion to the one she loves though forbidden. And the dress from the banquet represents a time of happiness because it was the first and only time she wore color. Her normal clothes are brown and gray, she has to wear them though since it is her uniform. And finally the phrase is what her mother said to her, “It’s my fault” it represents
