The Effects of Drugs, Alcohol, and Abuse on Families Drugs and Alcohol have taken over the lives of many people and ruined many families, this problem has been plaguing people for many years and it just seems to get worse over time. This continuous cycle of drug and abuse seems to carry on from generation to generation and this is where we need to get off our chairs and face the problem head on and do something about it. In this paper I will be going over the problems that we are having in today’s society and what I think we need to do to fix it. In order to discuss the problems about drugs and alcohol you first need some information about them, what they are and how they affect the body. There is such an abundance of drug and alcohol related problems and death in the world, I think that part of the problem is that people don’t always know what to expect when they take them. Maybe if we put out some detailed information on what they are and how they can affect you, it may give people a reason to think twice before using. Alcohol Alcohol is a drug that goes directly into the bloodstream affecting the entire body. The effects of alcohol can cause headaches, nausea, vomiting and all over aches and pains regardless of how much you drink. Drinking alcohol can also affect your body in other harsh ways; it can cause you to develop high blood pressure, liver disease, cancer, and heart and lung failure. Drinking can also depress you immune system and make you more likely to be able to contract viral illness and infections easier. Two- four percent of all cancer cases are either caused by or related to drinking alcohol. Alcohol related cancer does not just affect one area of the body it affects a number of areas the esophagus, mouth, la... ... middle of paper ... ...shows drug addiction as a chronic disease such as schizophrenia or diabetes and I for one think that he is wrong. When I think of schizophrenia or diabetes those are diseases that one person cannot control, it is a disease that is people are born with and it will present its self at one point or time in live. Drug addiction on the other hand is something that people do to themselves you don’t have drug addiction forced on you, you choose to do the drugs and this is something that you do not your body does for you. There are those exceptions to the rule when a baby is born with a drug addiction and that is something that they cannot control but because the brain changes associated with addiction can be treated and reversed through therapy, medication, exercise, and other treatments most all children who were born addicted to drugs can overcome and lead a normal life.
