Traditional schooling has both advantages and disadvantages to its approach. Traditional schools are open to the public, as for they cannot decline enrollment of any student, as stated by the U.S Department of Justice “All children in the United States are entitled to equal access to a basic public elementary and secondary education regardless of their actual or perceived race, color, national origin, citizenship, immigration status, or the status of their parents/guardians.” (www.justice.gov) School districts that deny a student 's access into their school or has policies set in place for students of parents who may be undocumented or not a U.S citizen would be violating a federal law. Any child living in the United States can attend any public school he/she desires regardless of their race, color, nationality, their status or parental status.
Traditional schools are regulated and under supervision by the state, this means that each teacher is qualified to teach the subjects that
I’ve also come across a lot of teachers who just don 't care about their students, I’ve seen this first hand growing up in the traditional schooling environment. Not to mention, that more and more cases are taking storm of violent activity occurring in traditional school. Traditional schooling also does not give students the freedom to learn what they want and love in life and pursue it because they must follow the strict curriculum. Also, traditional schooling starts first thing in the morning, which most students dread and it is scientifically proven that schools should start later because the brain isn 't even awake when we are and are ready to go to school. All of these cons put stress on the students, which is another con. Traditional schooling has proven some great advantages, but it also has proven some horrible disadvantages as
America’s public school system started off very rough, but through the dedication of many hard-working Americans, it was starting to shape into a system that allowed all children, regardless of race, gender, religion, or nation of origin, to have an education.
Schools are split into four categories/types known as maintained schools. These schools receive funding at least partially from the government. The main differences in mainstream schools come down to the way in which the schools are managed and run. For example a foundation school has its own governing board that decides its admissions policy in agreement with the local education authority. Support services are budgeted for and bought in
I believe schools are a reflection of their communities. Our schools are no longer segregated due the US Supreme court decision handed down in Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas. However, a schools makeup is similar to the communities they serve. A majority white school belongs in a majority white community. A diverse community such in large cities like New York will have diverse student body in their schools. Schools in the United States have been desegregated for over a half-century or have they. A film called “Little Rock Central- 50 Years Later” says differently. Little Rock Central is the famous high school where the Little Rock Nine students went to school. The school was forced by the federal government to desegregate. This film now captures this same high school fifty years later and finds a new type of segregation. The new type of segregation is now about social economic class and academic class.

This situation is similar to the U.S., where people have the chance to enter school depending on their zip code. With the voucher program, now students can choose schools even if it is public, charter, religious without a zip code, even though this idea did not go far, but it was a great reform. Ravitch, Reign of Error, chapter 19, p206-207. Segregation and integration and race and class This issue has been happening for many years and not only in education, but also in many other aspects.
Some of the advantages to this new public school choice option include: offers a way out of a low performing school, supports educational innovation because it supports alternatives to the traditional school day, school choice can match child and parents needs thus parents will be involved and more committed to the school and their child’s learning experience. (O’Neil, 1996) There are some restrictions when one thinks about the public school choice option. Restrictions include claims that all schools are too crowded, short windows of opportunity for parents to exercise choice, when parent can choose if they want to use school choice or not, and outright restrictions on which schools can participate in public school choice program. (Snell, 2002) Other disadvantages include: create inequalities by taking the more desirable students, fewer opportunities to learn from students of different backgrounds, and changes the focus from education for the public good to education for the private good. Education is no longer being seen as providing ‘some common experience in common se...
Homeschooling is often portrayed as an overprotective mom - unwilling to let her kids leave her for a day at school, and a large number of children, all unable to hold a conversation, let alone function normally in society. As someone who was homeschooled from kindergarten through eighth grade, I can attest that my homeschool experience was the exact opposite of this confining stereotype.
The school systems are supposed to be the institutions responsible for this education, but are they impartial in their methods? I went to a relatively small school in northeast Pennsylvania which had a predominantly low to middle class Caucasian population. There were hardly any minorities in the school system, and as a result the minorities there did not receive a culturally diverse education. It was much easier for the teacher to teach to the majority in the methods that the majority could understand. These minorities had to assimilate to our practices our fail. This hardly solves the problem of educating students so they can provide for their future families. Of course the minorities in the school are not going to be a...
The “deschooling” movement began in the 1960’s due to concern that schools weren’t teaching the same religious values that are taught at home. People feared their children would become anti-religious and lose their values because they were spending time with immigrants. Children homeschooled today can be for a variety of reasons. In addition to the ones listed above, some people believe they would provide a better education for their children than a conventional school would, they want to build strong family bonds, or they are afraid of sending their child to school. I believe these are exact reasons that children do need to be sent to conventional schools instead of remaining at home.
No classrooms. No teachers. No rules. Just you and library. Everyone has questions about their education, so what if education is taught in hundreds of different ways, and you never knew about it? There are charter schools, private schools, and Sudbury schools. Wait what are Sudbury schools? Sudbury schools are run by tuition like private schools, however this is where the student learns what is interesting to them. These schools run on honesty, independence, maturity, and motivation.
Many people in today’s society believe it’s wise to send their children to private schools. In making the decision on whether to put children in public or private schools, they look to four main factors: curriculum, class size, the graduation rate, and cost. When people have to pay for something, their first thought is, “Will I be getting what I’m paying for?” With a private school education, the amount you have to pay is usually well worth it. Public schools offer diversity. Here students can find people who are just like them and can associate better. Wherever you live, you have to send your child to the closest school. There’s no choice on what public school you can send your child to, whereas for private schools you can pick to send your child there. It’s not an easy choice for parents to decide, but many factors point toward a guarantee that a good education would be achieved, which is most important.
School has been in our lives for the longest time and it has always been a positive experience. It sets students on a path to achieve their education goal and stepping stones to a career! Now with all the advancements in life, students have the opportunity to do online classes. This is useful if the pupil is not able to attend school or their school does not offer some classes that they would like to take. Experiencing both of these ways of schooling, I have an understanding of the differences between the two. The major differences between online school and traditional school are the flexibility opportunities, the communication with the teachers, and the time management/discipline from the learner.
For some parents, deciding on a school for their children can be a difficult decision. Many parents do not spend much time thinking about it; they place their children into the local school designated by where they live. Others attended a private school themselves and found that it was a beneficial experience and therefore want the same for their kids. But which is better: private schools or public schools? While there are many advantages and disadvantages in each (nothing is going to be absolutely perfect), we are going to focus on the benefits of an education in the public school system, or in other words, schools funded by the government that are for anyone to attend. An accurate definition found in the Encyclopedia of American Education (1996) states: “Any elementary or secondary school under control of elected or appointed civil authority, supported entirely by public tax monies, and, with few exceptions, open to all students in a designated district, free of any tuition charges.” (780) These include elementary, secondary schools and vocational schools. Public schools are a good choice in education because they provide a wide variety of subjects to study, are diverse in their student body, available to everyone, yet can sometimes be misunderstood.
Before talking about what goes on inside the schools, I'd like to mention the district itself. There will be no alternative school choices, bussing, or deliberate desegregation practices. Each school will be remarkably similar to the others in the district so that every child may receive a similar education regardless of the neighborhood they live in. When students are separated to different schools for any reason (academic talent, wealth, interests, race, gender) they fail to interact with different types of people that they will undoubtedly encounter in the "real" adult world. In addition, I feel that is very important for children from the same neighborhood to attend the same school in order to increase a sense of community. Finally, as the Case Study of Boulder Valley points out, school choice takes valuable resources away from teaching and places them in school competition (Howe 144).
There are many decisions for parents to choose private or public school for their kids. Every parent wants what is best for his or her child. A person's education is one of the most important aspects in determining whether or not they will become a productive member of society. Education is so important. We need to look at both public and private schools to find out if there is a difference. Private schools are a better choice than public school for many reasons. Private encourages strong quality teaching, encourages higher education learning, and inhibit the rampant of bullying.
