What are rights? Rights are a freedom to express yourself, a freedom to worship as you wish, a right to prompt fair trial by jury, a right to vote in elections for public officials, a right to apply for a federal employment requiring a United States citizenship, a right to run for a elective office, and most of all a right to protest and fight for what you believe in. Is it fair to be told “ No you can’t do that” when you believe what your doing is the right thing to do. No its not fair! that is why i have picked abortion rights. Abortion is the termination of a pregnancy so that it does not result in birth. I strongly believe that abortion is wrong no matter the circumstance, but everyone has a different opinion. Abortion has been performed for thousands of years, it has been performed since the first settlers came to the united states. The states began passing laws that made abortion illegal in the late 1800’s. The motivations for anti abortion laws varied from state to state. One of the reasons were against it is because population would be dominated by the children of new arriving immigrants had higher birth rates than “native” anglo-saxon women. All surgical procedures including abortion were very risky in the 1800’s. The dangers from abortion were similar to the dangers from surgeries that were not out lawed. In the 1800’s the large amounts of women who needed abortions had no choice but to get them from illegal practitioners. Even when it was illegal abortion was practiced. For a women to get an abortion, safe or not it depended on her economic situation. In the 1960’s the people who performed the abortion turned away women if they could not pay $1,000 or more. Such people believe that the death rate of women due to such procedure in areas were abortion are only available outside of the medical establishment is unacceptable. Many abortion rights campaigners also note that some anti abortion activist also appose sex education and the ready availability of contraceptions, to policies which in practice increase the demand for abortion. Proponents of this arguments point to cases of areas with limited sex education that have high abortion rates, either legal or illegal. Some women also travel to another jurisdiction or other country were they may obtain an abortion. Some people who support abortion rights see abortion as a last result and focus on a number of situations were they feel abortion is a necessary option.
During the mid-19th Century there were no actual federal law regulating abortions, many states were against it and banned the whole practice entirely, except when the life of the mother was in danger. However there were some states that made no exception, not even to save the mother’s life. A lot of women argued that it was unconstitutional, and found other ways to have one. Whether it was by an unlicensed physician or performed the procedure themselves. Most illegal abortions were dangerous because they were performed in unsanitary conditions. As a result, many states such as the United States and New York began to legitimize or ban abortions complete...
Until the mid 1800s, abortion was unrestricted and unregulated in the United States. The justifications for criminalizing it varied from state to state. One big reason was population control, which addressed fears that the population would be dominated by the children of newly ...
Perhaps the most heated ethical debate of the twenty first century is the debate around abortion. Abortion is a medical or surgical procedure to end a pregnancy. Abortions are currently legal in the United States, although the laws differ from state to state. Abortions have a long history in the United States, and have been being performed here almost since the colonial settlers first arrived from England. For almost a hundred years, beginning in 1880, Abortions were made illegal almost nationwide. During this time, many women performed illegal self abortions that were often dangerous to their health. Many women were hurt or died from these self abortions, and those who sought out a different path suffered from the lack of proper medical care at small clinics. The prohibition of abortion caused nationwide protests, with protesters calling abortion a right a woman should have. By 1970, almost a third of states had reformed or repealed their abortion laws. Finally, in 1973, the Supreme Court struck down all existing laws prohibiting abortion in the Roe V. Wade court case.
For some, abortion is a touchy subject like politics and religion. In America, abortion has always been a controversial topic of discussion. The Supreme Court in the case Roe vs Wade case set the way of guidelines and the right for women to have an abortion if she chooses. In 2015 abortions is still an ongoing debate amongst religious groups, politicians and normal citizens. People that are for the rights of women to abort are often criticized and ridiculed for standing up for their personal beliefs. There are people who have conditioned their minds to think that women should not be allowed to have abortions if she was not raped or a result of incest, which I strongly disagree with that type of thinking. However, it is the law of the land, it is a women’s right to choose and she has to live with the psychological effects of her choice.
In regards to the history of abortion, it is known to have been performed for thousands of years, and in every society that it had been studied. From the time when the earliest settlers arrived, it had been legal in the Unites States. Abortions before "quickening" had been openly advertised and were commonly performed, at the time the Constitution was adopted. Throughout the 1880's, all surgical procedures had been extremely risky, as hospitals were not common, antiseptics were unknown, and even those most respected as doctors had only primitive educations. There are two types of abortion in the Unites States: an in-clinic abortion and the abortion pill (plannedparenthood.org). In a way, a number of states (such as Idaho, Iowa, etc.) have exercised abortion. However, such states had established abortion laws which have put women's health and freedom in danger. Throughout history women have been known to reproduce for the men they have married, but some of the women have come to the thought that they should murder the child because the mothers believe they are not worthy enough to handle the child. These murders, women are committing, are called abortions. Since women were capable to have abortions, they have not cared about the after affects or the risks, but since it is now legal, women do not care about the harm they are committing. The women believe that they should give up on the chance of being a mother by killing the infant instead of giving the child life and letting a mother who cannot bear a child take the child and give a happier life.
Abortion was legally being done since 1880 in the United States. During that time, many states have started to ban abortion. Even though abortion was illegal in many places, it was still being practiced. Many by licensed physicians. They “risked losing their license to perform the abortions”. Even though abortion was illegal in most states, women all over the United States were getting abortion illegally. Some even performed self-abortions with “hanger and needles”. “Also many women would go to other countries and get an abortion”. Many felt the banning abortions was a way to limit women’s rights which led to many court cases. (ourbodiesourselves.org)
Some women have accepted the definition that a woman’s prime role as wife and mother is to have control of one’s own body and mind (Reardon 3) .Once they had choices about life roles, they felt that they had the right to choose abortion or not. Any and every woman should have the ability to choose when to have a child in their lives. Many women feel that if they did not have the right to choose an abortion, they would have passed by many opportunities to create a better life for themselves. Some people might not agree with their decisions, but in the ends it is theirs.
There are many limitations valued when it comes to the right of abortion. The news media still outlines the pros and cons of anti-abortion rights in certain-states-to soon, the entire country. My perspectives on the issue of abortion have been entitled from it to never be banned among citizen’s rights. The reproduction of pregnancy has been emphasized heavily on a mother’s decision to abort their child, but the father of the child plays an active role since he considers to that particular title. Through this current issue, majority of the people against abortion do not seem to have an open mind to how much it primarily affects the decision of the mother amongst her own views of considering abortion.
Abortion is the ending of a pregnancy before birth. An abortion results in the death of the embryo or fetus and may be either spontaneous or induced. For years, abortion has been an extremely controversial subject. The history of abortion reaches back not just decades, but centuries, and even milleniums. Today, policies regarding legal abortion in the U.S. is being debated everywhere. Many myths and misconceptions confuse this issue. A better understanding of the history of abortion in America can help provide a context for an improved policy in the future.
All in all, women should be able to choose what they want to do with their own bodies. Even if you don't believe abortion should be legal, a woman in a different circumstance might think differently and have different needs. She might have a solid reason such as rape or incest or a medical reason where she would suffer terrible harm from going through with the pregnancy. The world should not go back to the illegal abortion days where five thousand women died yearly from illegal and unsafe abortions. Ultimately, all lawmakers should think before taking away abortion and how this backward step would be taking away a woman's rights and what she would suffer if there is no or very restricted access to abortions.

Abortions occur about every five or six births in the 1850s and 1860s. Abortion today has decreased from 1.6 million performed in 1990 to 1.2 million in 2006. In about 58 countries abortion is completely illegal or allowed only to save the pregnant woman’s life (Baum). State laws restricting or discouraging abortion and lack of availability of abortion providers may have contributed to the decrease in abortions overtime. Abortion became relatively safe for the first time in human history in the end of 1930s by medical techniques. Abortion has became a lot more popular in the 1930s. Approximately two million abortions occur each year. Almost 680,000 abortions occurred in the U.S. in 1935. (Higgins and
Abortion has been one of the most talked about topics in society just about anywhere from television, magazines, whether or not it should be the right or wrong thing to do. Abortion is a very sensitive issue to discuss, because of its nature. Many people have said that abortion is a very bad thing to do and it should not even be choice whether or not to abort a living fetus. People think that abortion is committing murder as it is killing the human fetus. However, others feel that a woman should have a voice and have the right to choose to keep the child or not and that it is not murder until the baby is born. Majority of individuals who believe that abortion is bad say that the fetus is human who is partly being formed and to have an abortion is considered to be murder. For the people who think an abortion is ok, say that it’s not considered murder unless the child is born. I believe that abortion should be seen in which the stage the fetus is in. if the fetus is in an early stage of pregnancy it is not considered murder, but if the fetus has already began to develop into a larger fetus then it is indeed considered to be murder. There are times when abortion can be accepted, if the mother is having complications due to pregnancy. For example if the mother is enduring complications in her pregnancy that can harm her, because of the child in that case it is ok to perform an abortion to help save the mother’s life. It is also very important to understand this type of situation. The mother has the right to have an abortion and it is her decision because a mother knows best about her health conditions.
People often consider a problem based on an individual case and their position may lean closer to one side or the other. Based on the Arguments For and Against Abortion article about a survey in which abortion should be legal or not, "the data show those who believe abortion should never be legal are the minority among those who support abortion in all cases or those who support it under certain circumstances" (2014). People tend to judge others by appearance or their identity, but don 't try to understand the circumstances. For example, 20% of the respondents agreed “under no circumstances” (2014). They discuss that no matter what their issue is, if women terminate a pregnancy, then it would count as immoral dilemmas and an offensive action. Their thinking is involved that when a fetus exists, it is a human being and deserves to live on the Earth. This group of people is described as “stop abortion now” side. Otherwise, there are still a lot of people standing in a neutral position. They understand the difficulty that women have been through and afterwards. Based on different aspects and point of views of trying to judge a problem, some people deduced that bringing a child in life without fully raised is worse than an
