The main theme of A Prayer for Owen Meany is religious faith -- specifically, the relationship between faith and doubt in a world in which there is no obvious evidence for the existence of God. John writes on the first page of the book that Owen Meany is the reason that he is a Christian, and ensuing story is presented as an explanation of the reason why. Though the plot of the novel is quite complicated, the explanation for Owen's effect on Johnny's faith is extremely simple; Owen's life is a miracle -- he has supernatural visions and dreams, he believes that he acts as God's instrument, and he has divine foresight of his own death -- and offers miraculous and almost undeniable evidence of God's existence. The basic thematic shape of the novel is that of a tension being lifted, rather than a tension being resolved; Johnny struggles throughout the book to resolve his religious faith with his skepticism and doubt, but at the novel's end he is not required to make a choice between the two extremes: Owen's miraculous death obviates the need to make a choice, because it offers evidence that banishes doubt. Yet Johnny remains troubled, because Owen's sacrificial death (he dies to save the lives of a group of Vietnamese children) seems painfully unfair. Johnny is left with the problem of accepting God's will. In the end, he invests more faith in Owen himself than he invests in God -- he receives two visitations from Owen beyond the grave -- and he concludes the novel by making Owen something of a Prince of Peace, asking God to allow Owen's resurrection and return to Earth.

In “The Fish” by Elizabeth Bishop, the narrator attempts to understand the relationship between humans and nature and finds herself concluding that they are intertwined due to humans’ underlying need to take away from nature, whether through the act of poetic imagination or through the exploitation and contamination of nature. Bishop’s view of nature changes from one where it is an unknown, mysterious, and fearful presence that is antagonistic, to one that characterizes nature as being resilient when faced against harm and often victimized by people. Mary Oliver’s poem also titled “The Fish” offers a response to Bishop’s idea that people are harming nature, by providing another reason as to why people are harming nature, which is due to how people are unable to view nature as something that exists and goes beyond the purpose of serving human needs and offers a different interpretation of the relationship between man and nature. Oliver believes that nature serves as subsidence for humans, both physically and spiritually. Unlike Bishop who finds peace through understanding her role in nature’s plight and acceptance at the merging between the natural and human worlds, Oliver finds that through the literal act of consuming nature can she obtain a form of empowerment that allows her to become one with nature.
Overall, I am pleased with the changes that I have made to my diet, and plan to continue working towards my goals. In order to accomplish my goals in the future, I will try to slowly increase my fruit, vegetable, and whole grain consumption. Another goal that I need to work on is to slowly limit the amount of meat products that I consume. Incorporating these changes will help me accomplish my goals of increasing my calories and decreasing my protein intake to the recommended values set by the Dietary Reference intakes. As long as I can continue to practice these healthier ways of eating, I am sure to have a longer and healthier life and decrease my risk of chronic diseases as I age.

To do this, I must recommend reduce the amount of processed foods, junk foods, and carbonated beverages in my diet. Everyone has different values and preferences, so it makes it a challenge to some who don’t see what everyone else is seeing. I am determined to start early by setting up a pension plan or savings, which will help me prepare for my future retirement. Throughout every person’s life, there will always be moments in time where change will take place. This could range from a variety of events such as changing schools, jobs, or even one’s own home. However, there are some habits that help one stay healthy if they remain consistent. This can consist of altering one’s diet to a healthier one or even enhancing the number hours of sleep one gets per night. A health change behavior goal that I have taken the time to evaluate and accept is necessary will be composed of a ten day exercise program in order to completely change my physical fitness habits. Selecting this health change behavior was the best choice due to the fact that after starting my educational career here at UCI, I had abandoned the active lifestyle that I once had before college. Thirdly, I would like to decrease the amount of time I spend on the computer to only 4 hours during weekends, and 2 hours maximum during the weekdays. Spending too much time on the computer is generally unhealthy, even for work purposes. It can cause back pains, stiffening of the muscles in your arms, fingers, and neck, dry eyes, and headaches. Finally, I would like to eat at least a plate of fruit each day. I am currently consuming only about 2 fruits per week, which isn’t enough because I’m not receiving all the vitamins my body requires. If I make these changes, I could grow a little bit taller, be stronger when I’m on defense or offense during my basketball practices or match, and my digestive system would function better.
All these three factors will help me improve my physical health. Implementing a healthy diet will help me maintain normal weight. Eating healthy food it is not about depriving yourself from eating. Eating healthy foods such as fresh vegetables, fruits, low sugar and fat diet, drink plenty of water and home cook meal. When I started nursing school, I see myself eating lot of junk foods on the street due to timing to cook healthy home food. Studies reveal that traditional college students often engage in risky health behaviors such as physical inactivity, unhealthy diet, smoking, and other negative health practices, which can have long-term consequences on their health (Bryes et al, 2013). Eating processing foods can lead to diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, stroke, cardiovascular diseases, kidney diseases, and cancer. Challenges to healthy lifestyle choice may include the greater accessibility and lower price of processed and fast foods (higher fat and calories) rather than non-processed fresh, healthier, foods (Gabel Speroni, 2014). I am planning to eat more cook home meal that has the entire nutritious requirement. Changing my eating habits will help me to reduce my risks from getting these diseases. Clean out the fridge and cupboards to get rid of all the stuff that taste yummy but is bad for your health. This includes chips, ho ho’s, cookies and soda’s. I know it is hard to get rid of but you need to have fruit and vegetables instead. Also quit eating foods that contain sodium. The sodium will cause water retention, which means you will be bloated.
