When put into a harsh situation evil will inevitably come out of everyone. Evil has many ways of developing but it will eventually develop. In The Count of Monte Cristo and Lord of the Flies there are multiple characters who turn evil because of harsh circumstances. As shown in The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas and Lord of the Flies by William Golding, evil will come out of everyone if put into a bad situation.
Evil has a direct link to oxytocin being released into the brain. (Zak 1) The 5% that don’t share many traits with psychopaths. (Zak 1) Not all evil people don't have the ability to release oxytocin. People who release oxytocin when given a positive signal tend to be “normal people. 95% of people release oxytocin when given a positive social signal. (Huff 1) Typically the one good relationship tends to outway the bad relationships if it’s strong enough. “Say a close bond with a grandmother--can offset negative influences in a dysfunctional household.” (Huff 1) That one good relationship could make up for all of the bad ones. In The Count of Monte Cristo Edmond Dantes has a good relationship with Abbe Faria which offsets all of the bad relationships that he has with people like Villefort and Danglars. He does eventually end up doing evil things throughout the book, although all of those evil things are in the name of revenge. In Lord of the Flies there are two examples of what a good relationship could do to a person. Piggy always talks about his “Auntie” which he seems to have a great relationship with. Piggy also never seems to turn truly evil even with all of the bad relationships that he has on the island. Jack on the other hand never seems to talk about someone that he has a great relationship with. Jack is also the one on the island that makes most of the other children become evil along with

The boys begin to reconstruct a society, a leader is quickly named, Ralph, he is a good leader and is one of the older boys in the group. That rule was quickly demolished when the rebel of the group, Jack, breaks off from the group with a large amount following. The boys quickly turn on each other and what started as a successful society turned into a corrupt, and destructive society. Jack’s group is called the hunter, they pick off the other boys one by one. First Simon, an innocent young boy, then a cruel death to a boy named Piggy. Piggy was one of the few boys that had morals. Then as Jack’s hunting assembly were in pursuit for the final man of the more ethical group, Ralph, help comes, just in time to save Ralphs life. Now Life of Pi by Yann Martel, is also an extremely powerful novel that is creatively wrote. It is a story told in first person by a man named Pi Patel. The story is about a horrific situation that occurs on the Pacific Ocean. As Pi and his family were on a large ship they carried many animals from their zoo. The voyage turn wrong quickly. The ship sank and Pi’s family died in the wreck, but Pi, Richard Parker and a few animals managed to make it to the lifeboat. The journey began for Pi.
