“Sorrow comes in great waves, and though it may almost smother us. We know that if it is strong, we are stronger, in as much as it passes and we remain.” (Goodreads.com) a word cannot be simply defined in a dictionary. To find the true meaning of a word for someone we must look into their adventure, known as life, and pick apart every piece. In doing this then maybe we will be lucky to possibly see what they felt. Sorrow is one of those complex words that I can’t give one definition, because sorrow has many different faces of emotions ranging from sadness leading up to joy. It is impossible to narrow down. Everyone has felt sadness at one point, for example when we lose a very important toy, we were made fun because of our funny hats, or we received a D on our English paper. These are all examples of different types of sadness or in other words sorrow. When I was a child I remember the first time I felt true sadness and that was when we moved away from my childhood home. I had to say good bye to my friends, my house, and even some family. I was devastated and hurt, but as I started to get used to the new house and met new people I started to feel happy again. Jalaluddin Rumi once said “sorrow prepares you for joy,’’ and I couldn’t agree more. (Good read.com). If we have never felt sorrow in our lives how could we possibly know what happiness is? And feeling this sadness or this sorrow makes us stronger, because we have learned to appreciate the joy we receive in life and it give us hope for next time when we feel sorrow that we will also once again feel joy at the end of the dark tunnel. There are different types of pain including emotional pain and of course physical pain. Anyone who has ever experienced a break up has felt true sorrow. My story isn’t as sad as most, but I will never forget the feeling of someone I love telling me they didn’t want to be with me anymore. My heart felt like it was shattered, I lost my appetite, and my emotions were crazy. But no one explains how it feels after a break up better than Saddi “The rose and the thorn and sorrow and gladness are linked together.” (Brain quote blog) This can work for anything that really causes you any form of pain. Maybe it is just me, but this quote screamed break up. The first part about the rose is the relationship, the thorn is arguments and sorrow is the official break up, but of course we have gladness at the very end. Am I glad that I was broken up with?
