When compared to written words, spoken words have had a greater impact on ones’ life throughout history. In some moments of your life, someone said something to you that affected you so much that it even changed your feelings, your way of thinking and your actions. Therefore, it is essential for us to learn the lesson of public speaking, which not only help you better express yourself in words with other people, but also help you be a better listener to other people when they are giving a speech. There will always be a message that you will want to convey to your audiences in the heart of your speech, and that will be your theme. I always …show more content…
In order to be a good speaker, first we must know how to be a good listener. There are certain rules ones must follow when they are listening to a speech: put away your cell phone, pay attention to everything the speaker is talking about and get engaged with the speaker and the topic. The first one is easy to be understood: cell phone is a distraction to you and also the speaker during a speech. Paying attention to things the speaker is talking about is a sign of respect for not only him or her as a speaker, but also for you as a qualified listener. A good listener should be attentive as well. They make good eye contact with the speaker and show interest in what is being discussed. It is not as easy as you may think to be a good listener; it also requires practice. But when you make it, not only will you gain respect and admiration from others; but you also learn things from them. Just like Calvin Coolidge once said: “It takes a great man to be a good

Renowned and engaging speakers have the ability to connect their values and ideas to greater causes and principles, leaving an enduring impact on the audience. You may be questioning what makes a great speaker? And what qualities and features contribute to the formation of a powerful speech? It is understood that a great speaker has the ability to communicate to larger truths and carve those truths on the audience’s hearts and minds as they surpass the context, place and time of the deliverance of the speech, and focus on conveying their ideas and values.

Over the recent four months in Communication 1402 class, I have addressed three formal speechs and completed a number of chapters in the corresponding textbook “Communication Works”. This course of Communication aims to provide general information what public speaking is and how to address a public speaking. Recalling back the experience during the processes of completing the Speech to Imform, Speech to Persuade, and Group Presentation, I will draw a conclusion about this course and these three presentations in five aspects, comprising my previous perception of public speaking before this course; learning from the Speech to Inform; the goal and evaluation of Speech to Persuade; learning from the Group Presentation; the most important thing learned from this course.
They say a picture is worth a thousand words and can tell a thousand tales. Just what exactly is this saying? (Visual of a bad snap shot… finger in shot)
I have also learned about different types of audiences and speeches including persuasive, informative, entertaining and delivering special occasion speeches. It came to my attention that whenever I was making these presentations or speeches, I needed to do so with confidence, consistence and practice before the actual presentation and completely eliminate the element of panic. It was also clear that capturing the attention of the audience and engaging them in the whole process, it was necessary to have a very strong introduction and also try and use visuals to deliver the message. It was therefore vital to respect each person’s diversity and cultural values (Lucas, 2011).
Public speaking is one of the most under rated skills learned in school, yet is one of the most valuable. The way you communicate shows a lot about you, and can influence other’s opinions of you. In every profession communicatiis important. Good communication skills, no matter what you plan to do in life, will help you out greatly and improve your chances against a harsh job market. I am majoring in Business Administration and Law, and communication is one of the biggest parts of business and law, yet communication is hardly ever taught in business classes for my major. I think that a communications class like public speaking, for example, should be not just for a college class, but taught in high school and middle school as well. I believe several classes would allow anyone to become an expert speaking. The only way to fully learn public speaking is to get up in front of people and talk to them. One can not learn public speaking from a book.
One of the biggest fears for American people is public speaking. People fear this more than heights and spiders. Yet, public speaking is required as a professional adult. Public speaking may not have to be in front of thousands or even hundreds of people. Public speaking can be an exchange between a store employee and a customer. It is being performed in a public place and speaking is taking place. People may not realize that that is a form of public speaking and it may come natural.
Have you ever wondered what goals you wanted to achieve while making an interesting informative speech? There are many times people struggle in making an informative speech until they were told about making sure the audience understand the speech, keeping their interest and making sure they remember the speech.
In order to successfully deliver an oral presentation such as a speech, the speaker must follow certain procedures to ensure his message can be conveyed clearly. Vast amounts of research are essential in order to acquire the knowledge necessary to be able to speak about a topic comfortably and answer any questions the audience might have during the course of the presentation. After acquiring such knowledge about the topic of the presentation the speaker will feel more confident, confidence is key in delivering speeches and other oral presentations because it makes the speaker look more credible and trustworthy. Lastly, the speaker must be fluid and eloquent with his words, the speaker must be able to sound clear and crisp while delivering their
To be effective listeners, the listening process should be incorporated into our lives. We should be attentive to what people say, clarify what the speaker is trying to come across, and respond in a way the speaker can understand what we are saying. I think I was aware that I needed some improvement in certain areas of this process but I feel as everything is slowly changing. In the future, I’m going try not to interrupt people, get distracted, tune out, and try to get a bigger picture of what the person is telling me. If good listening habits are applied in our day-to-day life, we can easily communicate with anyone and everyone.
In public speaking I learned many types of concepts, theories and terms of communication. In concepts of publicly speaking there’s, relaxation, practice, credibility, attention getters, attire, organization, volume, emotion, audience relation, and movement.
