Barry Sanders was born July 16th, 1968 in Wichita, Kansas. He grew up in a family being one of eleven other children. When Barry was a kid he was considered to be too short to play football well at the college level. In fact, his 1,417 yards rushing in his senior year of high school wasn't enough to impress college recruiters. One recruiter told Barry's coach, "We don't need another midget." Only two colleges offered Barry a football scholarship. Barry accepted a scholarship from Oklahoma State University and the rest is now history.

In a person’s life, one must overcome obstacles that have the potential to either negatively or positively impact their future. Whether it is a serious obstacle, such as being involved with drugs, or a minor obstacle, such as procrastinating an important essay for the night before it is due, the choices people make can influence the way they live their lives. In Wes Moore’s inspiring non-fiction book, The Other Wes Moore, two boys with the same name start off living a few blocks away from one another, but turn out to be completely different individuals. At first, they were both troublemakers, getting in trouble with the law. However, as time progressed, the author, Wes Moore, became a Rhodes scholar and quite successful, while the other Wes Moore was sentenced to life in prison. The difference between these two men was the surrounding influences that shaped their growth as people. In a person’s growth, the most important factors are a positive role model in a positive environment because a positive role model will provide the path to success and will aid that person in achieving prosperity.

The Life and Activism of Angela Davis. I chose to do this research paper on Angela Davis because of her numerous contributions to the advancement of civil rights as well as to the women’s rights movement. I have passionate beliefs regarding the oppression of women and people of racial minorities. I sought to learn from Davis’ ideology and propose solutions to these conflicts that pervade our society. As well, I hope to gain historical insight into her life and the civil rights movement of the 1960’s and 70’s.
Mothers, fathers, daughters, sons, aunts, uncles, grandparents, pimps, prostitutes, straight people, gay people, lesbian people, Europeans, Asians, Indians, and Africans all have once thing in common: they are products of sexuality. Sexuality is the most common activity in the world, yet is considered taboo and “out of the norm” in modern society. Throughout history, people have been harassed, discriminated against, and shunned for their “sexuality”. One person who knows this all too well is activist and author, Angela Davis. From her experiences, Davis has analyzed the weakness of global society in order to propose intellectual theories on how to change the perspective of sexuality. This research paper will explore the discussions of Angela Davis to prove her determination to combat inequality in gender roles, sexuality, and sexual identity through feminism. I will give a brief biography of Davis in order for the readers to better understand her background, but the primary focus of this paper is the prison industry and its effect on female sexuality.
Davis was the second Afro Canadian lawyer in Canada and the first Afro Canadian to be appointed to the King’s Counsel. He was born into slavery on August 4, 1846 in Maryland and died on April 13, 1915 in Amherstburg, Ontario, fleeing to Canada with his family through the Underground Railroad. It was a requirement of Law Society of Upper Canada (LSUC) that a studet must study under a lawyer prior to writing their examination, however despite proving his knowledge of the Law by serving as different law officers, “Davis faced significant obstacles in becoming a member of the [BAR- British Accreditation Regency], as prevailing racist attitudes prevented him from finding a lawyer [he could work alongside]” (Block, 2014). Consequently, Davis convinced W.D. Balfour, M.P.P. to allow him to take his final law examination without working with a lawyer. Balfour was able to introduce the act, and the decade long hindrance on his career as a lawyer ended when Davis passed the exam in 1885. He became a successful counselor, winning all six of his murder cases, and in 1910 received the honour of being the first Afro Canadian to be appointed to King’s Counsel. Davis’ contribution to Law in Canadian History extends from his sons who both sought careers in Law, all the way to Violet Henry- the first Afro Canadian woman to graduate from Law and be admitted to the
