Well Pedro, Li, Tyler and I went to the Erin Gruwell event for extra credit. The event was an okay event because it really help my out understanding the movie from erin Gruwell point of view and this help me out in finishing my essay. I got many ideas thanks to this event and it made me see the true understanding and the true version of the movie not only the Hollywood point of vi=ew with those actors. For example she said “the Power of words, help and destroy students” there was no hope for them because they told that they where dumb and that they where not going to succeed in life. They belive what they where told thanks to the power of words those words derstroy the students. That why they really didn’t like going to school or even try in school because they knoe they wherent going to do anything because they had no support. …show more content…
Her students did dream big because they graduate from high school and went futher in life then what they where believe to do so. This studenst try as hard as they could to graduate high school and did everything all because of the humble words that ms Gruwell told them they had hope again. They wanted hope and peace and that what they got from ms Gruwell. There was even real pictures and viedos of the real class in Room 203. There was on quote in a viedeo that made people got very emotional. In which is Family is what we choose. I do agree with Erin Gruwell because the students didn’t had family support and without that support the students will fail. The family that they choose where the people of R 203 it was everyone because they help each other out. Thanks to that the all the students where all able to graduate. Finally she close here events with this specific quote Stand up let your voice be hear write what you have been

What those student did actually changed the policy and made it easier for families to afford college without heavy loans. This showed others that activists can make a difference, something she presses on in this
At any point in time, someone’s world can be turned upside down by an unthinkable horror in a matter of seconds. On June 20th, 2001 in a small, suburban household in Houston, TX, Andrea Yates drowned her five children in a bathtub after her husband left for work. The crime is unimaginable, yes, but the history leading up to the crime is just as important to the story. Andrea Yates childhood, adulthood, and medical history are all potent pieces of knowledge necessary to understanding the crime she committed.
“I viewed each of the films at least once…taking notes on the role of the teacher, peer relations, among students, relations between students and adults, student attitudes toward schoolwork, extracurricular activities, the role of the family, the resources of the school, the use of violence and drugs, exploitation of sexuality (4).”
From what I ponder, I think the reason why we watched this movie was to encourage students to work hard on something they vehemently want to do. The tale of the movie displays a character who puts her time and effort to study difficult vocabularies, in order to attain her goal of winning the nationals in Washington. Therefore, through watching the movie, students can relatively connect to the situation in achieving their goals.
This movie is based on changing the lives of Mexican Americans by making a stand and challenging the authority. Even when the cops were against them the whole time and even with the brutal beatings they received within one of the walk out, they held on. They stuck to their guns and they proved their point. The main character was threatened by the school administrators, she was told if she went through with the walkout she would be expelled. While they wanted everyone who was going to graduate to simply look the other way, the students risked it all and gave it their all to make their voices
2. The book says that it is important to listen to the lower-class, the oppressed, the discontent. Virginia Ramirez lived in a destitute community, next to an old woman who was dying because she couldn’t afford to fix her home. Her outrage at this woman’s suffering inspired her to take action. If we listen to what she has to say, we too can be inspired. I had no idea that there were people in situations like that. Now that I know, it angers me.
Arlene Shechet, has always thought of herself as an artist. When she was in her mid twenties she had a very dear friend that was in the process of dying. Carroll, her friend was suffering from a incurable disease and was dying as Shechet was giving birth to babies and brining life into this world. To honor her friend and to represent the process of moving forward, Shechet threw out everything in her studio and began to work with a new medium: plaster. Shechet stated that she loved the texture of plaster because it changed over time. She also applied paint skins to many works to add a layer of depth and various textures. Over time most of her sculptures began to resemble a buddah-like formation. She said that she didn't have any aspirations
Instead of boring another reader with another twenty-four-page essay on myself I have decided to shorten out a quite smaller summary of my life. Now who is Madeleine Croasmun? I, Madeleine Croasmun, was the last natural born child to Daniel and Michelle Croasmun on December 8,1998. I grew up only knowing two of my older siblings and later on found and met my older sister Elizabeth Hugins, then shortly had two adopted younger siblings. Even if that doesn’t sound too exciting what will make it sound exciting is I found her with 48 hours of knowing she exists with only the state, birth mother, and year she was born. Now the adoption part may sound pretty okay or cool to just any average person but to me it means everything my family originally
However because of racial integration her school changed dramatically. She was forced to enter a racist society where teachers believed that to educate black children rightly would require a political commitment. Also teachers would teach lessons reinforced with racial stereotypes. After this aftermath she despised having to go to school, not being able to reach her peak with the constraint from the racist biases undermining her confidence.
I had fun, I certainly enjoyed our result, and best of all I am proud of myself and my home group. My group was assigned to act out our interpretation of Oleanna, Act Two. I was pleased to learn that Anthony wants to be an actor because at first, nobody else wanted to volunteer to act. He and Olivia did excellent representing John and Carol; we saw John as a man who was arrogant, he only seemed nice when he would try to sweet talk Carol into dropping her claim for his benefit. We thought Carol was usually a quiet young woman. She seemed to be dim at first, but we concluded she was only acting to get her point across that John tries to belittle her and other women and students. We easily made plans on when to meet up and film, we completed our filming as soon as we could and had plenty of time to spare for editing, luckily, because it took nearly a whole day for our video to upload to YouTube. We collaborated stage directions well and explained our thoughts to each other in a way we could all understand. We had John and Olivia battling for the upper hand, one moment John had the power, the next Carol had the

...rstand. Viewing these issues in the context of film allows for a complex story to unfold, and for potential teachers to grow as the characters do. Viewing film is so much more rewarding and engaging than reading text or dialogue. Watching the films allows me to internalize the situations and connect deeply with the characters. Deconstructing the story on film allows for much better understanding. Being a naturally visual learner, I can connect much better with the story when I see Miss Brodie’s billowy scarf or Miss Mackay’s high collar. Seeing the painting Miss Brodie puts up on the wall helps understand her love for art. Watching the films instead of reading the book helps me understand and connect better with the characters. By connecting better with the characters, I am able to better understand the concepts of diversity that underline the conflicts they face.
The story is different in many ways between the two productions, but none-the-less the same themes remain. This provides another outlet in which to engage students. I understand that this would be for an English Literature class not an English cinema class, but much like we encourage our students to go out and see the dramatic arts we must also encourage them to look at the cinematic arts as well. The graphic novel has often been looked down upon compared to other forms of literature and the same goes for movies as compared to the theater. Though often the theater is more focused on cultural engagement and literary tradition, we must not forget the effect that movies and pop culture have on our everyday lives. These are the things that children, adolescents, and young adults often look to for models and we must critically evaluate them if we want to see how these perceptions and ideas shape our reality. I know that I personally loved the movie long before I knew that it was based on a graphic novel. Its exciting action and storyline draws in audiences and opens up another opportunity for us to work on interdisciplinary work between literature and cinema. The most intriguing part of using this movie as a supplement for the graphic novel in a classroom is that it resets the story in a more modern context. It shows us a world not of the Cold War, but of post Iraq
