Certain mental illnesses can lead to homicidal behaviour. Not to say that all people diagnosed with psychosis or psychopathy are inclined to do dangerous things but certain mental illnesses can cause someone to react in a violent manner. Post the columbine massacre, information was released that Dylan Klebold suffered from anger management while his counterpart, Eric Harris suffered from anxiety and depression. Eric Harris was given antidepressants to help treat his depression but he refused to take them, and threw them out into the garbage, (The Final Report, 2007) causing his mental state to further decline into paranoia and worsen his depression. The killers were not targeting anybody specifically but in The Final Report’s documentary of
the columbine massacre, it was stated that “[The shooting] is because people were mean to them last year.” (The Final Report, 2007). The two clearly had a peculiar obsession with the concept of death. (Rosenberg, 2015, p. 4).That, and their polluted mental state together is what most likely fuelled the event.

In March of 1946, a man named Kenny Washington made a very important contribution for the NFL (Britannica). Kenny Washington became the first African American to ever play in a professional sports league (Amaral). Since he was colored in the 1940 draft class, none of the teams wanted to draft him (Bowen). Even though Kenny was doubted and treated differently than others, he was able to play on a smaller league team near the Pacific coast (Bowen). Then the day finally came when Kenny was allowed to play in the NFL after World War II had ended. This essay will discuss the story of Kenny Washington’s life before he became the first African American football player, what he went through to get there, and why he is important to the NFL.

When looking into the reasons that would cause a twenty year old young man to commit such a horrific act, the mental heath of the shooter is nearly always the first thing to look at. Adam Lanza was indeed found to have suffered from multiple mental disorders, however there is no direct connection between Lanza's mental health and his decision to commit mass murder. At the age of thirteen, Lanza, was diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome. According to www.oxforddictionaries.com Asperger's syndrome is a developmental disorder related to autism and characterized by higher than average intellectual ability coupled with impaire...
The Texas Church Gunman, Devin Kelley is an example on why mental health should be taken into a serious matter. Kelley was a former military man that had a court-martial for assaulting his wife and fracturing his baby stepson’s skull November 2012, in the Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico. This caused his wife to divorce him, imprisonment for a year, and the bad conduct discharge got him reduced to rank E-1. He was also suffering from mental illness and got placed in the Peak Behavioral Health Services while he was still doing time for the assault charge. Nevertheless, Kelley escaped on June 2012 and got detained by the El Paso Police, they reported he was at a bus station trying to flee away. However, the people who filed a missing person
The authors state their stance on the issue that mental illness has very little to do with gun violence. Throughout the article the authors use information from other sources such as PsycINFO and PsychiatryOnline and their findings from their own study in order to support their position. They state four claims that followed by their own investigation they did by collecting data and information from previous research that addresses connections between gun violence and mental illness. Metzel gives examples of mass shootings that happened in America that shows if the shooter to had some sort of mental health issues. One of the examples is the recent school shooting, Sandy Hook Elementary, caused a big debate about gun control and if people should have screenings for any mental health problems. The authors later say that the screenings would not reduce the chance of having another mass shooting later on and would add a lot of pressure to therapists. What caused a big issue was that the media diagnosing the shooter due to this many questions arise if the media has been using mental illness as a scapegoat since majority of the mass shooters tend to be white men and if race also played a role in this issue. This has misdirected people on the bigger issues on what we can
Landscape painting was extremely important during the middle of the nineteenth century. One of the leading practitioners of landscape painters in America was Thomas Cole. He visited many places seeking the “natural” world to which he might utilize his direct observations to convey the untainted nature by man to his audience. His works resolved to find goodness in American land and to help Americans take pride in their unique geological features created by God. Thomas Cole inspired many with his brilliant works by offering satisfaction to those seeking the “truth” (realism) through the works of others.
Psychopaths come in big and small packages with many different forms of personalities. Most of the time these psychopaths pop up in the middle of the darkness when people are least expecting it, like at Columbine. There are many types like Eric and Dylan, who hide their emotions. Then, there are people who are open to their craziness and enjoy their lives as a psychopath, like Hannibal Lector or Norman Bates. Always remember, never judge a book by its
Mental disorder. These are two words that people in the society fear and turn a blind eye upon. In fact, society most of the time tends to ignore mental illness rather than try to understand it. This is exactly how society treated Aaron Alexis and his mental illness. Aaron Alexis was a 34-year-old government contractor and a former Navy reservist (Fox). He is known as the gunman who went on a shooting rampage at the Washington Navy Yard on September 16, 2013, leaving 12 men dead (Fox). Investigators later found that Alexis had psychological issues that he tried seeking help for before his outbreak. (Fox) The author of the article “An Avoidable Tragedy: Aaron Alexis and Mental Illness”, Andrew Solomon, explains some issues that could have led to the prevention of Alexis’s outbreak.

It is evident that those with mental illnesses have an increased likelihood of committing crimes. It is important to note, however, that not all people with mental illnesses commit crimes or violent behavior so a cause is not evident. Substance abuse, a mental disorder, is also seen as a large risk in violent behavior (Silver 2006). Hiday (1995) asks the questions of the direction of this correlation. Does mental illness lead to violence or is it vice versa?

“The more energy they have to gin up to execute their plan, the harder it will be to do so” (Newman). When “Would be shooters” are faced with a challenge they most likely don’t go through with their plan. The dedicated shooters are those who intend on finding guns and shooting people, those who have the drive. “Totally dedicated shooters” are the type of people who wont give up whether the guns are accessible to them legally or illegally. Dedicated shooters have a plan of action and intend on going through with it. These types of people likely suffer from mental illnesses. “The abnormally high level of school shootings in America is not solely a gun issue a mental health issue, or a media issue, but rather a problem caused by a combination of mental illness problems, social inequality, gun control policies, and the structure of schools”(Gupta, 2016). Structural inequalities in the United States cause stress, which lead people to turn to radical measures. Factors such as economic change, racism and social changes cause constraints on behavior. Mental health is also a leading factor to school shootings. “Metzl and MacLeish’s research shows that up to 60 percent of mass shootings in the United States since 1970 involved shooters displaying symptoms of mental illnesses—including paranoia, depression, and delusions—and the evidence suggests that
Because the subject matter of strategic management is so inherently complex and because each one of us brings his own personal biases to the analysis, it was suggested early on that virtually all case material in the field be analyzed from the perspective of more than one methodology. Profit theory and industrial chains were selected as the first of a number of viable approaches to the analytical process. It would have been equally correct to select the Five Competitive Forces analysis refined by Michael Porter, one of the major figures in the field of strategic management. This methodology addresses the same issues but differs only in the language that they use to describe corporate behavior. The five forces are:
