The article that was chosen is entitled “US lawmakers press Mylan on EpiPen price increases”. As the title suggests the article is about the push to find out exactly why the cost of EpiPen a lifesaving medication has increased from 100 dollars to 500 dollars in the past eight years. It goes on to explain the two routes taken by two lawmakers on the U.S. Senate's Judiciary Committee; one lawmaker asking Maylan directly and the other asking the Federal Trade Commission to look into the issue. This issue is related to pharmacy because that is where one can buy EpiPens and also the pharmacists could have played some role in bringing to notice the price increase. Drug dependence or addiction reliance is an expanding scourge around the world. Drug legalization or at least decriminalization has been discussed for quite a long time as an answer for the drug issue. Indeed, at times authorization appears to be legitimate however in a few circumstances it is most certainly not. The article is about HSS issuing a penalty to Cignet Health a Temple Hills Md-based company that has four physician offices and a health plan. The penalty is for the violation of 41 patients’ rights in the refusal for them to view their medical records and the refusal to provide the records to the HSS office. The result is a $1.3 million fine due to HSS for the violation of HIPAA laws stating that you must give patients access to their medical records within 30 days.
In America, it has become a battle to earn a high paying job to cope with the expenses of a typical American. It has become even more of a battle for some people to afford medical prescriptions to keep healthy. Health becomes a crucial issue when discussed among people. No matter what, at one point or another, everyone is going to stand as a victim of the pharmaceutical industry. The bottom line is Americans are paying excessive amounts of money for medical prescriptions. Health-Care spending in the U.S. rose a stunning 9.3% in 2002, which is the greatest increase for the past eleven years. 2. The twin problems of the health care industry as viewed by society are cost and access. First of all, the cost of getting health care is very high and it is getting higher each day. This has been mostly caused by the combination of high cost and an increase in quantity of services provided to the communities. The other problem involves access to health care. American enjoy limited or no access to health care. Many efforts have been done to reform this, but still but still many people are left without access to the care. These two problems are related due to the fact that if the health care industry gets to high off course people no longer will be able to have any access to it. The higher prices are, the lower access people have to it.
Marijuana is a drug that can be consumed by either smoking or eating; this drug is typically used for medicinal or recreational use, however, in the United States it is the most popular illegal drug used on a daily basis by many users. Under federal law marijuana is classified as a schedule one controlled substance, also in this category includes heroin, LSD, and PCP. Marijuana has many street names such as Pot, herb, weed, Mary Jane, grass, and reefer just to name a few. Marijuana is considered a gateway drug and may lead to potential use of other hardcore illicit drugs. American’s spend roughly 100 billion dollars worth of marijuana a year, which is about thirty-two million pounds of weed, annually. Regardless if marijuana is legal or illegal people are going to continue using it. Legalizing marijuana brings much controversy; there isn’t much research available on marijuana to prove whether it would be beneficial to legalize. However, the government makes it very difficult for researchers to investigate the affects marijuana would have on our society, because it is prohibited. If American’s were educated on the use of weed, they would understand it isn’t any more dangerous than consuming alcohol. Marijuana prohibition creates an illegal economy, allows easy access to youth, and is costly to tax payers.
Rising medical costs are a worldwide problem, but nowhere are they higher than in the U.S. Although Americans with good health insurance coverage may get the best medical treatment in the world, the health of the average American, as measured by life expectancy and infant mortality, is below the average of other major industrial countries. Inefficiency, fraud and the expense of malpractice suits are often blamed for high U.S. costs, but the major reason is overinvestment in technology and personnel.
In recent years’ health reform has been a driving force in the United States political system. If you watch the news, you will understand how citizens, the government, or the economy are or might be affected by some sort of change in medical regulation. One of these hot topic issues is the cost of prescription drugs. Every major drug market besides the United States regulates the price of drugs in some way (Abbott and Vernon). By the United States not doing so, many believe it opens consumers up to being exploited by large pharmaceutical companies.
The policy issue I have identified is prescription drug coverage. This interests me because prescription drugs are a major part of modern medicine. They serve as compliments to medical procedures; substitutes for surgery or other procedures; and new treatments where there were none previously (Oliver, Lee & Lipton, 2004). As the medical community’s understanding of the human body increases the possibility for new pharmaceutical interventions will increase.

Another article that caught my eye is improving the management of care. It has been a challenge to Medicaid and Medicare when it comes to overutilization of services. If one looks at the demographics of the issue, it would indicate that these are individuals with high cost occurrence and those whose social and personal environment is quite unfavorable.
