Natural Childbirth Vs. Epidural
A lot of soon to be moms have a lot of questions about natural birth and epidural, when they are pregnant. Most women are nervous about the pain when their gonna have their baby. People say that the birthing process goes faster without an epidural. There are some many advantages and even disadvantages between Natural Childbirth and Epidural to look at. What Exactly Is Natural Childbirth?
Natural childbirth is giving birth naturally.
It’s going through labor and delivery without medications, including main pain reliever, epidurals.
It’s also allowing the woman lead the labor and delivery process, dealing with it without any help of medications. (as in an epidural)
Some women choose to give birth without taking medications at all. With natural childbirth, the mom is the only one in control of her body. Usually there will be a

What Is Epidural?
“Epidural is the most chosen ways to relieve the pain of labor and childbirth. This drug is inserted around the nerves that carry signals from the part of the body that feels the pain in labor. It numbs the lower part of your body and gives you very effective pain relief. It numbs most of the pain during labor, but keep in mind that when you get an epidural all the pain doesn’t completely go away. But both Natural Childbirth and Epidural has many pros and cons. So if you’re really debating on which one you want to do when go into labor, it’s helpful to look at both of their advantages and disadvantages.”
“When is the best time to get an epidural? If a women during childbirth ask for an epidural, there is no reason for the nurse or doctor to refuse it, even if she’s early in her labor. The women should be able to get relief from the pain of childbirth as soon as she feels she needs it or wants it. Any women can ask for an epidural no matter what stage of labor she is in.” (babycenter
When pregnant, many expecting mothers are faced with a very tough decision, the decision to have an epidural during labor or to have a natural birth. Both methods have negative and positive aspects. This topic has such conflicting views that about 50% of women decide to get an epidural when going into labor and the other 50% of women choose the alternative: natural childbirth. It is important for an expecting mother to look into both options thoroughly to ensure they make the best choice for both themselves and for their child. With all of the speculations circulating about both options, it is hard for mothers to see the truth about both epidurals and natural childbirth.
Though it may be too late for an epidural (an injection into the small area of your back), you should be able to get pain medicine through an IV or in pill form. By the time you are fully dilated, ten centimeters, you will be ready to push.... ... middle of paper ... ...
In doing this project the literature drawn from is largely non-scholarly for the reason that I am prevailing upon the reader to think outside the box about birth. Most of the “scholarly” research that is available was written by doctors or nurses/nurse midwives who were trained in the medical model of birth. Since part of my premise is that the high rate of Cesarean sections is caused in part by viewing birth as a medical and therefore pathological event, and in part for its emergence as a capitalistic industry, it was then necessary to find literature written by people who have expertise in birthing though not from the traditional obstetrical/medical school approach.
In the film, Jules did not want to be on epidural because she wanted to give birth as natural as possible. A guest speaker, Tabitha, gave the class an advice that, especially women, we should not be on epidural for more than 6 hours because that can affect your baby and you as well (personal communication, March 28, 2016). Mostly the guest speakers talked about how the doctors and nurses treat them during their stay at the hospital. From what they were saying, some nurses were more understandable than others and it also depends on the location of the hospital. In the movie, Wendy had to do C-section after many long hours of labor-inducing activities. The dangerous part is that she lost too much blood, but she was okay at the end. In my opinion,
...o find a balance between interventional and non-interventional birth. With this being said, I also understand that there are strict policies and protocols set in place, which I must abide to as a healthcare provider, in any birth setting. Unfortunately, these guidelines can be abused. Christiane Northrup, MD, a well recognized and respected obstetrician-gynecologist has gone as far as to tell her own daughters that they should not give birth in a hospital setting, with the safest place being home (Block, 2007, p. xxiii). Although I am not entirely against hospital births, I am a firm believe that normal, healthy pregnancies should be fully permissible to all midwives. However, high-risk pregnancies and births must remain the responsibility of skilled obstetricians. My heart’s desire is to do what is ultimately in the best interest of the mother, and her unborn child.
How do you feel about home birth? When it comes to most peoples minds they most likely think that is just horde, and that they world never even think of baring there child that way. After reading this I hope that you will change you mind, or reconsider it. home birth is better then the hospital in many ways, and i'm going to share with you many of those ways with you. In the articular ( Midwifes alliance) is says, (Journal of Midwifery & Women’s Health (JMWH), a landmark study** confirms that among low-risk women, planned home births result in low rates of interventions without an increase in adverse outcomes for mothers and babies. This study, which examines nearly 17,000 courses of midwife-led care, is the largest analysis of planned home birth in the U.S. ever published. The
Why should I have a natural birth, “You don’t get a medal for going without drugs, you know.” Why go through the pain when you can get an injection that can take away just enough of the pain that you can still enjoy the labor? “There is no shame in asking for an epidural,” said Dr. Cynthia Wong of Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Northwestern University. In the United States more than 80% of pregnant women are now having c-sections. Epidurals give the mothers a chance to participate in the delivery and actually enjoy it. You can also get a walking epidural so that you can still push during the labor and cope with the pain.
I want to help you narrow it down because when you go into labor, the last thing you need is to still be second guessing your choices. Go confidently into that glorious wonder! First, let's go through the cons of having
There is no clear definition for elective cesarean delivery (ECD). Every study reviewed had a different set of guidelines used to define what an ECD includes. Many researchers defined the term broadly; with definitions ranging from performing a cesarean section before ...
The version of childbirth that we’re used to is propagated by television and movies. A woman, huge with child, is rushed to the hospital when her water breaks. She is ushered into a delivery room and her husband hovers helplessly as nurses hook her up to IVs and monitors. The woman writhes in pain and demands relief from the painful contractions. Narcotic drugs are administered through her IV to dull the pain, or an epidural is inserted into the woman’s spine so that she cannot feel anything below her waist. When the baby is ready to be born, the doctor arrives dressed in surgical garb. The husband, nurses and doctor become a cheerleading squad, urging the woman to, “Push!” Moments later, a pink, screaming newborn is lifted up for the world to see. Variations on this theme include the cesarean section, where the woman is wheeled to the operating room where her doctors remove the baby through an incision in her abdomen.
A description can never be as vivid as an event that has been experienced. An experience can never be as defining as an event that has left you changed. Under the intensity of childbirth, you're more likely to remember details that would otherwise go unnoticed. All the scenes come together to leave a permanent imprint on the mind's eye.
Many women today are doing more C-sections, also known as cesarean, than they are natural. Whether the reasons being because it’s more convenient or that some moms did not really have a choice, the percentage is still growing. “The cesarean delivery rate increased from 26% to 36.5% between 2003 and 2009; 50.0% of the increase was attributable to an increase in primary cesarean delivery (National Partnership for Women & Families, 201.)” There are many things to consider when deciding which is the right or safer choice. With both choices comes risks for the baby like, possible respiratory problems with a C-section. The mom has many risks to worry about for herself as well, like possibly hemorrhaging. There is also the recovery and the long-term effects that a woman has to put into consideration. They both have their pros and cons that should not be taken lightly.
Cesarean delivery is not as complicated as many people may think. The process is very safe and quick. It is most commonly used in emergency situations and when vaginal delivery is not option. When it’s planned in advance it’s in the best interest for the mother and baby. Vaginal birth after cesarean is possible if the incision made was a horizontal cut, but there are still risks to be considered. There are advantages and disadvantages to the baby and mother, that does not mean the procedure is not safe. The disadvantages are not life threatening and are minor issues that time will heal. Next to vaginal non-medicated birth I believe that cesarean delivery is the next best thing.
An obstetrician is one thing, and a gynecologist is another. The job is combined together, but the two branches can be worked separately. An obstetrician is a physician who focuses and is trained in the management of pregnancy, labor, and pueperium (the period following childbirth). A physician who has specialized and trained in the health of the female reproductive system is a gynecologist. The reason the jobs are combined is because they’re both all about women. Obstetricians and Gynecologists are physicians who provide general medical care to women. They equip medical care associated with pregnancy or childbirth, and they diagnose, treat, and help prevent diseases, especially those affecting the female
...ural. An epidural, is the best thing I pregnant women could ever ask for. The pain of the contractions simple vanished and left me feeling as happy as a clam. Just imagine having laughing gas and that is how happy and relaxed I felt. The funny thing about the administration of the epidural was that it didn't hurt when it was administered. The pleasure of not feeling anymore pain was more than I could ever ask for.
