DA – Unit 1 / ENVS 1301 The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) website is impressive with its cornucopia of data for maps that are area specific for information on energy, health-related issues, community activism, land (commercial or private property), water (private or public) and air quality. Although I knew the agency existed, until now I had had no reason to visit. For my local area, there are no environmental concerns; however, I learned of the detailed information available regarding air quality monitoring – which indicated that the air quality for our location is among the best air quality in the nation. (The state of California leads the nation in several aspects of environmental stewardship.) Yes, such a fact …show more content…
To-date, we've not had any issues or environmental concerns that directly effected nor incidentally impacted my community. Nonetheless, I think a great method to improve the public's awareness of the range of accessible information would be best to be advised of (or, reminded about) the website when the local news forecast relates to environmentally-related health issues. Additionally, if the K-12 education sectors are uninformed, they should be appropriately included on a rotating schedule. Children are natural “monitors” to help adults remember such matters. Plus, I imagine it would be excellent environmental educational “training” for successive generations. A couple of interesting facts I learned about my country from the Environmental Snapshot of the UN Statistics Division link were: over 4.3 million tons of fish were harvested in 2010 and the change in agricultural land decreased by 4 percent between 1990 and 2013 (UNSD). Which might be due, I suppose, to increased imports of food products. The only other thoughts I have on this topic is that, in my opinion, it would enhance global relations significantly if the developed nations respectfully shared the environmental lessons they have learned with the developing countries to guard against those developing countries traveling the same erroneous itinerary – if the developing nations would accept such
The anti-social behaviour act was made in 2003. The reason for why this was made was to make the rules of anti-social behaviour better and work more efficient also to do the same with the fixed penalty notices. The rules of this act is no one that is under the age of 16 is allowed to buy spray paint due to graffiti on private properties, no group of teenagers are allowed to do anything wrong to the public and also no public drunkenness which can lead to people disturbing the peace. An example for this could be the ASBO’s.

The two limitations are checking packets one at a time, and checking only some fields of the internet and transport headers. Checking packets one at a time is bad because packets will be examined one at a time, and cannot stop attacks such as DoS. Checking only some fields of the internet and transport headers is bad because will not examine all field of the internet and transport header fields, and cannot stop all attacks such as utilized attack.
Utah is known to have the best snow on earth, we have beautiful scenery, relaxation and recreation all within minutes of our front door. But what about that dirty air that seems to last for months? Utah has four of the nations 100 largest oil fields, which produces 1.2% of the nation’s output, with 3,600 active wells. Utah ranks 11th in the nation of oil production, and we have five refineries in the Salt Lake area that can produce 175,500 barrels of oil per day (House,2012). The major effect of these practices, is the effect of air pollution along the Wasatch Front and the serious health consequences on children, teens and adults.
The environment and the health of the surrounding population go hand in hand. The Environmental Protection Agency takes on this ever so important mission of protecting them both. The mission statement of the EPA states, “The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Small Business Programs is to support the protection of human health and the environment by advocating and advancing the business, regulatory, and environmental compliance concerns of small and socio-economically disadvantaged businesses, and minority academic institutions (US Enviromental Protection Agency, 2010).” The impact of its mission can be defined clearly as it examines the impact of contamination in the air, the water, and the land on human health.
... environmental quality leading health indicators are air quality index exceeding 100 and children of ages 3 to 11 exposed to secondhand smoke. Poor water quality can lead to gastrointestinal illness, neurological problems and cancer. Poor air quality can cause cardiovascular disease, cancers, and asthma. Certain chemicals found in homes and workplaces can contribute to severe poisonings and other toxic serious effects.
There are many key factors to understanding prevention such as identifying the disease, monitoring the prevalence of a disease, and developing new drug's or vaccine's for that disease. In unit 3, we learn about primary prevention, secondary prevention, and tertiary prevention as the new healthcare model. "Primary prevention means averting the occurrence of the disease" (Williams & Torrens, 2008, pp. 143). The primary prevention is meant to be the first line of defense against any disease. They want to eradicate the disease before it even appears in primary prevention. "Secondary prevention is a means to halt the progression of the disease before it becomes serve" (Williams & Torrens, 2008, pp. 143). In secondary prevention, the disease has
1. Consider the qualities that mark a leader—vision, ability, enthusiasm, stability, concern for others, self-confidence, persistence, vitality, charisma, and integrity. On the basis of these 10 qualities, discuss the best leader you have ever had
Although ambient air pollution has decreased over the past several decades due to stringent air pollution control policies, there has been little evidence directly supporting the extent these control measures have improved public health (Tonne, et al, 2010). Investigative research has observed evidence to support the association of air pollution and particulate matter with increased cardiovascular events.
Many communities around the world face health risks from airpollution. The San Diego/ US–Mexico border crossing at the San Ysidro Port of Entry is the world's busiest international land border crossing. San Ysidro is a community located in California that is adjacent to the border crossing. Being close to the international border may result in exposure to pollution from lines of idling vehicles at the Ports of Entry, trade-related commercial trucks, and transport of pollutants from Mexico. Luckily, Casa Familiar, a local community development agency has launched a two-year project to study and analyze the health risks associated with air pollution at the border. The California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) will
We need to be concerned about the condition of the air that we breathe daily, because there has always been a problem with having fresh unpolluted air to breathe, dating back unto the Industrial Revolution the concern of polluted air has raised eyebrows whether it was scientists, government officials, or the general public the complaint of not pollutants in the air was a major health issue since the being of time. The reports of nineteen deaths in 1948, in the city of Denora, Pennsylvania was an eyeopener to the Washington groups, just because they were suppose to regulate industrial emissions made up of a combination of combustion products and thermal inversion these people still died.(Fleming and Knorr , 2009) So therefore it shows how very important it is to have clean fresh air versus polluted hazardous air that has an affects on Americans physically, economically, and socially.
One of the most dangerous environment issues Southern California is facing today is air pollution. This includes the burning of fossil fuels and natural disasters. Los Angeles is one of the most polluted cities in the world, and the most polluted city in the United States. I will research information about the causes, the effects, and the history of air pollution in the Los Angeles. For my research, I have relied mostly on, the school’s database and library, as well as current events.
Air pollution in Los Angeles has caused concerns. In 2011, the Public Policy Institute of California (PPIC) Survey on Californians and the Environment showed that 45% of citizens in Los Angeles consider air pollution to be a “big problem”, and 47% believe that the air quality of
There are lots of environmental issues going on globally. The earth faces problems such as pollution, global warming, waste disposal, and loss of biodiversity. These are just a small amount of issues out of the so many. These environmental problems pose an abundant amount of risk to the health of humans and animals. There needs to be a solution to all these problems and that is by informing others, so that way everyone can make the environment a better place.
