Environmental influences on development: 1) Parenting: Parenting has a huge impact when it come to a child’s development. There are many different parenting styles and each style could either have a positive or negative effect on the child’s development. Parents could be authoritarian, a parent who offers a lot of structure, little communication, have lots of rules, like to control everything and don’t express much love and warmth. That is not a good thing because the parents are taking all the decisions for the child. As a result, the child doesn’t have to think for themselves to later have the capacity of problem solving. Later on, the child could have low-self esteem, feel more insecure, and could have difficulty being social. These children …show more content…
Freedom with no limits will affect the child in a negative way because without consequences, children will not have boundaries and they won’t know what can be done, what is acceptable and what is not. Consequently, the children exposed to this kind of parenting will often have trouble following rules and will have lots of behaviour problems, as well as a lack of self-discipline which is required for social interaction with people around them. Moreover, this child often does not have a sense of responsibility, has difficulty with boundaries and commitment, and does not realise the importance of consequences. A different parenting style is indulgent parents, these parents are attentive, give their children warmth, love and interactions, and have few rules. These parents seem more like friends than parents. This parenting style could often encourage the child to becoming creative, have few boundaries and know their worth. And the last kind of parenting is authoritative style: these parents encourage their children to be independant, but also have limits and …show more content…
It is crucial to understand each child’s temperament. For example, because that is the way they see the world, it is through that that we can anticipate how they are going to react to certain situations, the way they are going to feel about it and what behaviours are going to come from that so to know the best way to work with each of the children individually. Also to understand gender effect and influence on the children and what they are exposed to an example is, if Sarah tells Marc “Why are you playing this barbie you’re not a girl?” as an educator if you understand why the child might be thinking like that helps know how to react to the situation. Maybe it’s what her family taught her at home or what she learned that through media. The educator could then maybe explain to Sarah that it’s okay if Marc wants to play with the doll if he wants to. Furthermore, knowing each family’s parenting style will definitely help to understand the children’s behaviours and knowing how to deal with them in different
Environment says a lot about identity, past, and future. Primary environment has the most effect on shaping a child. According to a US National Library of Medicine research study, ”The physical environment and child development: An international review” it says, “What we do know suggests that the physical environment experienced by children impacts their cognitive and socioemotional development across the lifespan, from the prenatal period through adulthood.” In children this is especially important because a child develops most between the ages of two and five. There are three key elements that contribute to a healthy physical for young children, an adequate standard of living (mainly sufficient food, clothing, and housing), healthcare, and safety from injury, violence, and environmental hazards. In The Other Wes Moore, Wes(a) had
The environment in which you live shapes up your life, it determines who you become. Many people grow up in a great environment full of good influences, but that's not the case for everyone. There's several children that grow in an environment that has many negative influences especially for children. For instance, in the book Black Boy Richard Wright grew up in an environment full of violence, poverty, and racism. Those traits affected Richard Wright throughout his entire life. Richard Wright had trouble adapting to many things in life, and struggled a lot
Today there are many ways to run your household; all families have different techniques of parenting. Some parents are very gentle with their children and others not so much some parents think they need to give their children no freedom if they want to be successful in life and get everything they want in life. But in my opinion everyone should have their freedom to do anything they would like unless it doesn’t bring any good. But then you have to look at it in the parent’s perspective, if they control their lives they believe their children wouldn’t do anything bad or dangerous. Some children may listen to their parents because it’s the right thing to do but others might want to do that specific thing just because they were told not to in the first place. Not everyone is the same but some people are like that, children need their freedom but not too much because sometimes they can get out of hand. I know of some parents that don’t allow their children to not get anything less than an A in class. Some parents may place too much pressure on children which leads them to become rebellious in the future. Could extreme parenting healthy for children or just go extremely in the opposite direction.
External factors may include Malnutrition will not only affect a child's physical development like not getting the correct vitamins and minerals and can cause defiances and problems later on in life it can also affect the child's concentration levels as they have not got the energy in the classroom. Family environment may affect a child's development as a bigger family may tend to give more moral values and education to the child that also supports their social and cognitive progress, however coming from a smaller family does not mean that the child is not provided with the same values and a child can have negative experiences. If they grow up in an extended family circle, in close relationship not only with their parents and siblings but also with their grandparents and cousins, mother might feel more protected by the people who surround them and have more opportunities to develop socially through frequent
Ecological theory is a theory developed by Urie Bronfenbrenner that states that the “systems” around you are vitally important in human development. Within the theory there are many systems including the microsystem, mesosystem, exosystem, macrosystem, and chronosystem. Each system is defined by a different aspect of a person’s surroundings that would affect their development. The systems begin with the aspect that is closest to you, your day-to-day life. The Microsystem includes all of the places, people, and experiences that are found in your daily life. These include school, work, parents. friends, neighbors, and so forth. The next most impactful system is the exosystem. The mesosystem is defined by two entities within your microsysytem affecting each other. The next system is called the exosystem. The exosystem is full of things that don’t affect you directly but will eventually
There are many different aspects of environment that can affect the development of children. One major environmental impact that influences the development of a child is the neighborhood they are raised in. Within the neighborhood there are several other aspect of influence. Where a child is raised can affect their behavior, attitudes, emotions, personality, values, health, and so much more. This can be seen in their personal lives at home to their social lives around others in classrooms. The affects of a child’s development due to their environment can be seen in both a positive and negative aspect. The neighborhood that a child is raised in can be very critical in their development. It may have a significant effect on what he or she becomes in the future.
I believe that a child’s growth is developmental, and each child needs a secure caring and motivating atmosphere in which to grow and developed emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. I believe nature and nurture are the two aspects that influence in child development. Nature and nurture are different in several ways, but they both play an important role in child development. I believe that the environment that a person grows up in has the most influence on child development because children reflect what they are taught and what they learn from the people around them.
The environment at large plays a significant role in individual development and career ideations/opportunities by providing both planned and circumstantial experiences. Each facet of one’s environment -geographic location, natural events, primary spoken language, technology, etc.- interact with the individual to create a uniquely influencing atmosphere (Krumboltz, 1976; Feller & Honaker, 2001).
In my opinion, Brooks-Gunn’s argument that the aspects of your environment influences your development is a valid one. In my neighborhood, my peers were wonderful. Before I met them, I would typically just stay inside and watch television or play video games, and when I became friends with them, they would convince me to withdraw from my house to play with them daily. They convinced me to go to the park, play sports, or go on adventures through the neighborhood with them, and we would play outside from sunrise to sundown everyday. Thanks to my peers, I feel that I became more
Child growth and development is a process that consists of some building blocks, which are components that combine in an infinite number of ways (Cherry, n.d.). As a result of the variations of building blocks in a child’s development, educators, psychologists, and philosophers have been constantly engaged in the debate of nature versus nurture debate. Many researchers agree that child development is a complex interaction between his/her genetic background (nature) and his/her environment (nurture). In essence, some developmental aspects are strongly affected by biology whereas other aspects are influenced by environmental factors. From the onset of an individu...
This includes, cognitive emotional health, social ability, personality and a healthy adult life (Haddad). All four areas of a Childs development needs are influenced by their environment but most importantly by their parents, or any powerful adult figure in their lives. If a child slowly develops negative behavior in any four aspects, I believe the parents play a part in this. A parent influences what their child is exposed too, different people to new places. My family really provided me with a lot of love and affection as a kid. They would always make sure I had what I needed. In addition, they would always make sure they were being a positive role model for me. My parents did stress me during my developmental years by fighting often. Around the time I was nine my parents separated and eventually divorced. Divorce is a huge deal for the children involved and I believe shaped me into who I am to this day. It can damage them emotionally and eventually lead to problems in the immediate
The environment today is not in a good condition, Climate change is evident, and oceans are getting polluted. Rainforrest's are decreasing in size due to deforestation and illegal logging. Animals are getting extinct due to the destruction of their habitats. Natural resources are being consumed at very large amounts, and get wasted. There are different ways these problems can be addressed, one option is environmental management. Environmental management focuses on conservation of natural resources, protection of habitats, and impact of humans on the environment. Conservation of natural resources is the smart use of the world's resources by humans, through this waste production is limited, and there will be less garbage in the world. By conserving
Due to rural-urban migration, there has been increasing levels of poverty and depopulation in rural areas. This is one of the reasons why the government has seen it as necessary and made it a priority to improve the lives of the people who live in rural areas. Rural development is about enabling people in the rural areas take charge of their destiny. This is through the use and management of the natural resources they are exposed to. This is a process through which people learn over time and they use this knowledge to adapt to the changing world. The purpose of rural development is to improve the lives of people living in the rural areas.
world history says how environment is vital issue for any living creature. Many big and strong species, such as dinosaur, were lost from the world due to environmental change. Though human has been dominating in the world for about five thousand years, the human civilization is still dependent on the environment. Without a suitable environment it is not possible for human as like as any other living species to survive. But people were not aware of the importance of environment few years ago. Due to the unawareness along with destructive activities, environmental change has been visible across the world recently that makes people think about it. Really, environment is a matter of great concern in the world nowadays. A group of people has raised their voice to protect the environment. They are well organized and strong in many countries especially in West that leads them to form political parties. Those green parties are an important factor in the political realm in those countries. Bangladesh is not a different. The densely populated country is well known to the world due to climate c...
There are lots of environmental issues going on globally. The earth faces problems such as pollution, global warming, waste disposal, and loss of biodiversity. These are just a small amount of issues out of the so many. These environmental problems pose an abundant amount of risk to the health of humans and animals. There needs to be a solution to all these problems and that is by informing others, so that way everyone can make the environment a better place.
