With clear indication from her works, you can see that Oxman draws her inspiration from the natural world. From her works, she is pushing the boundaries of the possible, while in the same line of process, is creating extremely beautiful and though-provoking objects. As for example, one of the chairs she has produced from a new 3-D printer she has designer, she states, she states that she drew inspiration from internal structures of organism or other biological forms such as their bones. Oxman tends to aim her work to be able to use computational tools to generate “performance-based design.” She states that’s this kind of design similarly occurs in nature. She further states "the organization of the

In one of her works, you can clearly see this, this work is Mushtari (Jupiter’s Wonderer). Why it refers to it being Jupiter’s Wonderer is that it resembles a solitary element occupied with living matter. Which can also be closely related to the human gastrointestinal tract. Thus making this design wearable as designed as an organ system for consuming and digesting biomass. This is done by absorbing nutrients and expelling waste. This design is designed in such a way that it allows for the support the gradual flow of cyanobacteria engineered to change daylight into consumable
What really struck a chord (ha ha) with me is how terribly interesting his work is. He often designs and organizes the most mundane objects or events in a composition that gives off a very surrealistic vibe.
Not just designers, but also other artists that influence our daily lives like architects and animators and industrial designers. Practically any field you could possibly think of.
She likes traveling to other places, but was ordered to visit Earth. She refers to her maker as “parent teacher” and that she is “here embodied in a decaying lump of meat hanging on a frame of calcium”.(Gaiman 232). This is the physical form of our humanness. All we are is flesh and bones and our bodies are in a continual process of decay. She sees the body not the mind as the meaning of human race. "But knowledge is there, in the meat," She is wearing worry beads, which are meant to relieve stress or protect from negative energy. This is an innuendo to
After being ranked 8th in the world and having a known name in the sporting industry, he was easily contacted and hired for designing sports/surfing magazines and advertisements. In the interview conducted by Designboom, Carson stated that he had no real formal training in the design world, resulting in a lack of knowledge in basic design content (i.e. grids, formulas, schools of thought, etc.) (Designboom, 2014). But, with his early interest and education in sociology, and his Bachelor of Arts degree, he is easily able to work with real stories, real people, events, and music. When Carson is given the brief article that he must design around, or the client’s idea pitch, he just designs what he feels is right (Designboom, 2014). The more pieces he creates, the more experimental he gets. This act of fearlessness and adventuresome is what makes him such a desirable designer. Clients are confident that he will produce something unique, beautiful, and daring. Carson stated that his strongest skill is his “ability to speak visually and emotionally to a wide variety of audiences and topics” (Designboom, 2014). Carson has been in the design industry for many years and has worked with many varied clients, making his knowledge and level of creativity mastered. His curious, bold, and open-minded personality, plus his experimental, clever, and unique approach to design, has made the successful designer who he is
There are seven different design principles, which Olmsted incorporated into his projects that start with the letter S: scenery, suitability, style, subordination, separation, sanitation, and service. The scenery aspect of design is about “the small spaces and areas [that are] intended for active use. [It is the] creation of designs that give an enhanced sense of space: indefinite boundaries [and the] constant opening up of new view.” Olmsted also wanted to avoid the “hard-edge [and] specimen planting” because these make the landscape seem less natural and more manmade. Suitability is the “creation of designs that are in keeping with the natural scenery and topography of the site: respect for, and full utilization of, the ‘genius of the place.’” Style has to do with “designing in specific styles, [because] each [various style will create] a particular effect” on the entire area. Depending on what is done, a calm place can be created that is full of richness or even a place that seems uneasy and full of mystery. Subordination is the overall design and the effect it is intended to achieve. Separation deals with “areas designed in different styles.” Each one needs to be set apart from one another “in order to insure safety of use and reduce distractions for those using the space; separation of conflicting or incompatible uses.” Sanitation is about creating a place that has “adequate drainage and other engineering considerations [that] promote both the physical and mental health of” people who occupy the space. In service, the designs should “service a
While studying butterflies in the 1950s to answer questions on biological classification, ecology and evolution, Paul Erlich started thinking about global populations. Since then, he has become one of the leading experts in the world on the subject of population and the author and co-author of over 30 books on population and the environment including his most famous in 1968 "The Population Bomb" (USC 1). Erlich was also the co-author and founder of the theory and field of co-evolution. Though Erlich has been criticized for predictions that have not come true (yet) and scrutinized over his figures, he remains a well-respected pioneer and a great communicator in political and environmental thought.
nature. He called this Organic Architecture. Wright felt the relationship between the site and the building, and the needs of the client where very important. In contrast to Wright, Le Corbusier displayed industrialization rather than nature. ...
Richard Neutra preferring his own term of concept “biorealism,” there was further distanced his mature work with his previous mentor, Frank Lloyd Wright. “Biorealism” is combination of “bios” and “realism”. “Bios” or life means biology and psychology, where “realism” means basic realities of existence. Neutra was enlisting biology and psychology into the art of architecture to exploited his design and fully understand the reality of the sense and nature where there was the basic requirement of human well- being. Neutra was concerned at all with ‘organic architecture’ or ‘human scale’, it was primarily in relation to human physiology, which for him was the central issue. In Survival through Design, Neutra explains: ‘Organically oriented design
“Frank Lloyd Wright’s architecture was rooted in Nature; he called it Organic. At the heart of his work was simplicity, harmony, unity, and integrity” (Lind, C., 1992).
After several years of use and abuse of natural resources, humanity begins to awaken from its stunned by the advances of technology, to understand the magnitude of the impact caused by its presence in the environment. At present, trends in various aspects of human activity seek to achieve a harmonious relationship with nature; one of them is the practice of interior design. The main reason because the construction industry, in particular, has incorporated especially such attention, is the result that it has proved to be one of the main sources of pollution in water, air, and noise
Green architecture is an approach to building which has become more popular in the last 25 to 30 years. Also known as sustainable design, green architecture is a method of design that minimizes the impact of building on the environment. Once thought of as unconventional and nonstandard, both regulatory agencies and the public alike are quickly accepting green architecture as a socially responsible and logical means of construction.
The elements of design were created by Arthur Wesley Dow to help people see, describe, and create visual qualities in a systematic way. It consists of 7 elements: line, shape, form, colour, value, texture and space.
...ated on the processes social designers follow in order to derive an outcome that satisfies a human need, while benefiting the community, not harming the environment and ultimately contributes positively to the local economy.
Sustainable design seeks to reduce negative impacts on the environment, the health and comfort of building occupants, thereby improving building performance. The basic objects of sustainability are to reduce consumption of non-renewable resources, minimal waste, and create healthy, productive environments (“Sustainable Design”). Focusing primarily on the sustainable design principles, there are five, including: low-impact materials, energy efficiency, quality and durability, design for reuse and recycling, and renewability. As sustainability appears to become the necessary trend in architecture, the question concerning the cost versus outcome of “going green” really an investment or a waste of time and money comes to mind. With our research provided below, we believe the expenses may truly be with the investment in the end.
