Session 4: Jan 22 (Monday) - Enterprise Resources Planning (ERP) Systems - Bombardier - Part - 1
This class was interesting because it was the first time we got into an actual technology system rather than technology in general. The enterprise resource planning system was really cool because it kind of integrates technology in a way to make business more effective. It's a concept that students are pretty familiar with because it has a similar concept is Google Docs and the Google suite, where no matter where we are we can access the files that we have associated with our Google account. With and ERP if a sales representative puts in an order, it will be visible to the engineers who can start to prepare the

They have so many changes and so much they had to do to implement a system like this it was overwhelming to read about. Before this case, I questioned why a company would not just implement a system like this because the upside is so obvious, but now that I understanding the cost, resource allocation, and the trouble it puts everyone in the organization through and makes a lot more sense now. In addition to this, there are situation like the one that waste management faced where they claim to have been scammed by a fake ERP system after investing millions of dollars and years of time. I still think that the pros outweigh the cons of a system. The ability for a company to integrate its marketing, financial, HR, operations, and losticial departments and the cohesion of these units is essential for a business. Like in the Bombardier case, what an ERP does is it makes “one company”. In the Bombardier case this was not only just different parts of the same company, but many companies that bombardier has acquired over the …show more content…
Looking at how these concepts were implemented into a business revolutionizing an industry was really cool because the cases, even though their recent, are in the past. Looking at how the company is currently using data made thee class contents feel slightly more relevant and relatable. I think it's interesting how data can be put into every single industry. Health Care in general is a very anti-technology sector and has been for a very long time. Especially doctors. I remember shark tank video where doctors explained how they still use pdas to communicate and pagers on a daily basis. Now companies that are working with doctors to not only give doctors technology that is mobile but technology that gives doctors huge amounts of data that a doctor wouldn't have access to otherwise and well as a system that is able to analyze big data in order to help specialized treatment for specific patient is a huge step forward in the treatment of these cancers. Those really cool I'm looking forward to seeing more of those
ERP stands for Enterprise Resources Planning. ERP is a term used for software that controls whole organizations different departments. SAP is the world leader in ERP systems followed by Oracle.
Ziff Davis, an American publisher and internet company, wrote a small document on the top 5 reasons ERP systems fail and how to fix those reasons. The document makes an interesting point of “failure is often a perception, rather than a quantifiable measure of outcomes (Ziff Davis 2),” meaning companies may think they have failed by their perception, when in actuality they didn’t proper measure their outcomes or potential outcomes. The first reason the document goes over is “setting unrealistic expectations at the outset. (3)” The document claims that a company is eager and excited to implement the system without fully defining business requirements and goals (3). This ties back with that perception and measurement dilemma. The company perceived everything was going to be well with the implementation, but failed to measure out goals and requirements. Ziff Davis goes into the fact that companies fail to realize “the level of resource commitment the project will take (5)” and that “Done properly ERP can and will transform your business by automating and re-engineering its beating heart: its business processes. (4)” Again these point out to that perception and measurement factor. Another reason the document goes over is “Not involving key stakeholders (6)”. Ziff...
...ncement can revolutionize the healthcare sector. Smartphones are more affordable, more accessible to the population than computers because these days everyone own a smartphone and are easier to carry. In the recent years the use of cell phones and wireless sensors to gather data and access health data has grown up tremendously. Lot of mobile applications are already available in the market that count your daily calories intake, keeps track of your nutrition’s and workout plans.
With today’s technology, we are capable of doing countless features such as coming up with new medical innovations to treat diseases and other medical related issues. Since we now
To ensure Tektronix's success, the ERP implementation was divided into five manageable sub-groups: (1) Financials, (2-4) Order Management/Accounts Receivable (OMAR) in the three divisions, and (5) the global rollout. Within the sub-groups, additional waves were created to ease into the system. For both the Financials and OMAR, Tektronix decided to implement the new system in the United States first. Though the ultimate goal was for location to be irrelevant in the system and processes required for an order to be completed, it was important that the company see the added-value of the implementation as it proceeded.

New inventions in the medical field have always been coming out to provide a better life quality for many people but when the product is first being used on you it can be frightening. Nineteen years ago I was the first patient to use the PillCam which is a camera pill that goes through your digestive system and takes many pictures. I remember that day on how doubtful I was in using this product when fear shadowed over me and my heart started pounding. This left a mark in my life because not only did the PillCam helped me but I was the first step for many people to take to save their lives.

described the ERP system as packaged (but customisable) software applications, which manage data from various organizational activities and provide a fully integrated solution to major organizational data management problems. They provide for both the core administrative functions, such as human resource management and accounting, as well as integrated modules which can be selected to support key business processes, such as warehousing, production and client management.
“An Enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems are software systems for business management, supporting areas such as planning, manufacturing, sales, marketing, distribution, accounting, finance, human resource management, project management, inventory management, service and maintenance, transportation, and e-business”.( Haag, Cummings, Phillips, S, M, A (2007). Mangement Information Systems. New Yory, NY: The McGraw-Hill Company Inc..)
In order to be more productive and accurate, most of the companies depend on use of technology, with the help of enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems. (Olsen, and Saetre, 2007).
For a retail business, slow moving inventory is a killer. Cash tied up to inventory is idle cash which can be used to purchase another asset or pay liabilities. Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) is a software that enables management to monitor its core-business processes by giving real-time information regarding business process and status of business commitments. It uses common databases that is maintained by a database management system. ERP is a helpful tool to monitor market demands and inventory levels that will yield a higher inventory turnover and overall company
New systems new devices and new technologies been discovered to help reach the best patient’s care, to reduce errors and to help healthcare providers. Since I was in high school I always thinking about what is best for mankind. How to help humanity? How to utilize technology to help people? . Since I was a little kid I wanted to help people.
Now its mobile phones… What next? What will be the next discovery to revolutionize society?
