When I started English 102, I started with a few things I already master and a few things that I end up learning after my time attending English 102. When starting English 102 what I master was I did not have such a hard time working with the MLA format since it was a format I been working on for years. While it is easy for me to write essay base on my own personal experience. Although writing is not my strong suit in English, following the rules and how the format should be would be consider my strongest side of English. As for my weaknesses with English is mostly that I have hard time making my sentences flow, since my sentences flow to me, but when others read it they may consider it a bit choppy or hard to read. Also that I have a little …show more content…
hard time making my sentences have more interesting words. Finally that my writing is not as great as it should be. My time in English 102 I hope that I am able to write sentences that flow more with ease, and have my essay be more interesting to the readers so that I don’t lose the reader attention. Overall though I wish to increase my knowledge on English so that I can perform more efficiently. After my time in English 102, I think that I learned much more then my time in English 101.
I really like the Discussion board in which we introduced ourselves to each other, even though we do not see each other in person, it is a nice way to get used to everyone and learn what their strengths and weaknesses in English is. So then, we can help and improve each other’s writing and English. The Discussion board was also great in the way we communicate with one another it was an easy and simple to use site, in which I thought was a great feature. As for the DB forms that we did, I think they were good for us to stimulate our writing, to show each other how we write and express ourselves. I had a great time talking with other people and seeing the ways in which they write and express themselves. In which was another way for us to learn about one another, and the ways in which we write. Now the instructions given were great too, since they were easy to read and gave all the information needed to write essays in the correct MLA formatting. From the correct, way to cite to the ways in which you should properly write in MLA formatting, I thought that there were great, incase if I think I did it in the wrong way I can easily look it up and make sure it’s in the right
format. Continuing on instructions given to me during my time in English 102, there were many useful and beneficial documents and links given to me. Starting with the course information given to us, what I liked the most was “Evaluation of Student Writing”. Which given to us, to show us what was required and what should be done in order to get the best grade. This was very helpful since it showed us everything that needed to be finished in order to get a great grade on essays or writings. In addition, I did enjoy the ASU Libraries online since they also gave me books that I could use for information to cite in my essays, and it was simple and easy to use. Next was the Course Documents, and there was a lot to offer on assistance here, which I had many useful documents. From the Writing Rituals to the Tolumin Lectures, to the MLA Format Matters, I think that all the documents found in course documents were great and very useful for my essays. What I liked the most though in the course documents were the Writing Rituals and the Tolumin Lectures, since both of these are what I used to try to make my writing more efficient. From the Tolumin guide on how to write strong and catching thesis statements to the Writing Rituals that help improved on my writings. As I progress in English 102 and writing my essays, I found it very helpful that I got feedback from the instructor to my peers. The most beneficial were the ones that I received by my instructor, since the instructor feedback precisely tells me what I need to fix. From me fixing the way that my citing to making sure that I have the correct format. The instructor feedback was the most helpful. Although the peer review feedback was not bad either, I took note of all the feedback that I got. Most of them were that I needed fix the flow of my essays, in which I tried my best to make sure they did. As for the peer reviews I got different comments on each of my drafts that I made. In which I think that having the chance to post a rough draft was a great chance to have other people check on your work. Since there might have been mistakes that I have missed, but others can find. Therefore, it helps me correct my essays so I can get a better grade and fix the mistakes I made. Most of the time when I write my rough draft and then post it to the blackboard I always see that I have small spelling errors to mechanical errors, in which I go correct in my final draft. In addition, that sometimes my peer reviews point out my some sentences in certain areas of my essays and I later correct them to make sure they flow easier. Speaking of essays, I thought that thought my three essays I think that my strongest essay was my second essay while my weakest would be my third essay. The reason for this is that my second essay I had a better grasp of the subject, and had an easier time being able to talk about the subject. My second essay was on the addiction of video games, in which I have knowledge on the subject, since I am a gamer myself, but not as addicted as others. This is the reason why I had such an easy time on this essay since I know the reasons why people can have such addictions to video games. While my third essay I did not have such a good grasp of it and that it was something I did not know much to talk about on the subject. My third essay was on the dangers of fracking on the environment in which I had a bit of a hard time writing. Since those fracking methods have changed over time and they have reduce the amount of damage it does on the environment and that it is a huge way to obtain resources for commercial and private use. Wrapping this all up, I had a very interesting time in English 102, especially when this English 102 class is an online course, so it gives you space that is more open to your schedule while it also makes you also train to have time managing skills. When I first joined English 102, I thought that it would be harder than I would expect it to be in class since it is an online class so it is much stricter then in class because they do not know what the student is doing. After experience English 102 online, I think that the course is not as hard as I thought it would be, but it is not simple if you have poor time managing skills. From this class I think that I have gained a lot of knowledge on writing argument essays and the proper way to write them too. Also that I have improved my writing skills, and making my sentences flow more with easy. Overall my time in English 102 I think what I have learn and hope to take with me, is that I learn new ways to write different type of essays in which I can use in the future if I have to write essays for or against subjects. While I have improved a bit on my writing, from making sentences flow easier to writing sentences with more efficiently and making them more interesting. My time in English 102 I have learn much and I hope to use them in the future.
One of the biggest weaknesses I have is not being able to transition from paragraphs effectively. In the Lord of the Flies and Asher Lev essays, I did not create a good flow through the essay, making it sort of choppy. I can improve this by increasing my knowledge of transition words and not expanding ideas too much. Also I have to work on slowing down my pace with writing and watch out for grammar mistakes. A way I could improve this is learning the placement of quotations in sentences, that they should be after a period in some cases. Another idea that I have to improve on is choosing the best evidence for my claim. In the Lord of the Flies essay, I had not chose the best evidences and it did not effectively show examples of the claim. I have to learn how to pick evidence that best suits my point of the argument and that I can tie in with my
Over my career of schooling my writing has changed dramatically at times and very little at others. Through my years of schooling people have determined my main weaknesses and strengths that I should work on with my writing. My biggest weakness is writing introductions and conclusions they must be so complicated and require so much thought to be defined as good. I excel at writing body paragraphs and explaining all the facts that back up your main ideas though.
Writing has never been a strength I have possessed. English 102 has been difficult and challenging for me because I have had to move past the high school level of a basic book report or a five paragraph paper that has narrowed my ideas of writing for many years. Putting on paper what my thoughts are in a way that is logical and accurate for what the assignment is asking has been hard for me this semester. My ideas are now more involved because I have learned through English 102 how to develop my writing skills in different formats, for example, in an annotated bibliography and a research paper. English 102 has taught me many things about writing like locating sources from the library and on line as well as continuing
When going through life learning is an everyday occurrence as each day is constantly filled with information that is used throughout the course of your life. Each day we get stronger and stronger in whatever we decide to put our minds to, weather that be academics, sports, our jobs we are constantly learning and growing on a daily basis. This semester I have grown in English as I personally felt that through the English 102 course I have been able to grasp some key concepts and writing techniques that will better me for the future. In this class there was a list of goals and outcomes that the instructor felt would be achievable and the best way to learn throughout the course. In each goal throughout this process I feel like I have improved to some degree but there is other things that I do need to touch up on a bit more to further my writing education outside the classroom.
In this paper, I am to write about my strengths and weaknesses in writing. This is not an easy task for me because I have never considered myself a writer. Reading other peoples thoughts are activities that are more my speed. I simply have trouble putting my thoughts into writing. Since, I do not feel that I have many strengths, let's move on to my weaknesses.
Compassion, respect, empathy, and treating people with dignity are values I hold dear and have been brought up with and follow. When I was younger I thought as children do, that all children must be happy and have a safe place to live and a family who love them, however, as I got older I realised that this was not the case for many children. I felt a sense of injustice and realised then that I wanted to work in a job that helps care for children/young people and families, making sure their basic rights are met and they are safe. I feel that it has always been part of my personality to be a supportive, nurturing, caring and a community focused individual. Therefore it only seems natural for me to follow this instinctive sense of caring and
The feedback I got from my peers and instructor greatly aided me into seeing the faults in my writing that I could improve on as well as pointing out the good things that I was doing. From that feedback I learned that a strength of mine I have is making good points and providing background information which you will see in the essays provided. In saying that, a weakness of mine with writing is being able to expand on the good points I make, providing more analysis so that the audience or reader can fully comprehend what is being said. Nevertheless, throughout English 101 a great deal of effort has been put into providing more analysis and expanding on ideas so that it is understood to the
I have learned a wide variety of material in this class. My critical thinking, research writing, and digital writing skills have all improved, as a result of this class. Throughout this eight week course, I have not only enhanced my overall writing skills, but I have also learned how to identify, and use reliable sources to my advantage. I have done so, all while giving the proper credit where it is due. My portfolio will include much of the material I did in this class. From my essay collection, to a few of my discussion posts, each given assignment helped me expand on my writing and improve my overall skills. Before this course, I was never familiar with the American Psychological Association format of writing, also known as APA style. This course helped me learn the specific APA style, as well as enhance my general ability of the MLA style. One specific site that I used to my advantage, is Owl Purdue Online Writing Lab. This source offers reliable guidelines to completing various educational
Throughout this fall semester, I have learned many things. Before this class, I have never had to buckle down and plan out my writing so tediously. The many outlines, rough drafts, and final drafts have crafted me into a much better writer than I would have ever expected to become. While I have always considered English as one of my strong subjects, through this class I have learned that English has many more components than I originally thought. One of the most substantial of these components is a transitional sentence and through this class and the writing practice it has brought me, I have learned how to properly write them.
As a student, I feel that I have many writing weaknesses. I know that on my own, and because teachers have told me so. Some of the complications I face with writing is not using enough body paragraphs, forgetting a thesis statement, lack of word choice, punctuation errors, and etc. I am unaware at times of my mistakes, but I always try to correct them.
Reflective Practice In nursing education essential elements are required to be taught in order to produce competent nurses. Each of those fundamentals are then evaluated to ensure understanding has taken place. One such key component is critical thinking. This skill is most used in the clinical setting where thoughtful decision making is needed. In the clinical setting the instructor determines the level of the student’s ability through clinical evaluation.
In my writing, my weakness is spelling. I am not a very good speller, so I misspell words a lot. That is why I like typing on a computer because it tells me if I misspell something. Also, one of my weaknesses is tenses. If we are doing a present tense or some other tense, I switch back and forth between tenses without noticing.
Today is the second session that I had counselor with this particle client. He came in to see me for the same problem that he had before. But except this time client had be doing a little than before. Before I started with the interview I had use the five stages and dimension of the interviews a client. I want to have an empathic relationship with my client, and gathering story and find the strength of my client is part of getting to know my client. This time I had set a realistic goal that my client can work toward without feeling that he is not in control of making the decision. The next is stage restoring finding what is not working now and trying to find an alternative that will work then take the action of letting the client go or
During the course of the years English has never been my favorite subject nor my strongest. Last year, I had Ms.Ahn for AP English Lang. Most of we did was analyzing text, writing rhetorical essays, and persuasive essays. Most of the readings were either stories with something we touched greatly on was prejudice.
In high school, English was my strongest and favorite subject. I never had to work as hard in English as I did in math or any other subjects I took in high school. My peers would cram all night for a Literature test we were going to have but not I. I excelled in writing essays about Moby Dick and his white Whale or Beowulf and Grendel. My confidence in my ability to write was always high and when I enrolled at Chattahoochee, I assumed my confidence would not waiver. When I received my grade for my first paper, I was in shock of all the red ink that covered it. English 1101 taught me the skills I needed to have to be able to write a great paper and prepared me for what was to come for English 1102. English 1102 have taught me to rethink my abilities as a writer and to work harder and spend more time on my essays and think outside the box.
