Reflective Essay

Some people love English and writing papers while others hate it, but what does not kill us only makes us stronger. I feel without a doubt that English class has made me a better student with the help of my English instructor. The knowledge that I have learned will help me with future writing assignments or even writing tasks in near further with my career. However, English class would be last on my list of classes to take at college, but it is possibly one of the most important classes a person has to take. Everything I have to write revolves around the English language and it's important to grasp that idea. My growth in this class shows itself in three phases the beginning, the middle, and the end of the semester.

At Smyrna High I was in several Honors level classes, where I learned APA and the proper writing format. Entering this English class I had a basic understanding of how to write an APA paper along with the familiarity of a demanding workload. However, the classes I attended at Smyrna High did not require such in depth research as this class. I quickly discovered that a basic understanding was not quite good enough to be successful in this course. As the semester progressed, I began learning more about APA from citations, to references, to general formatting like font.

Middle

Towards the middle of the semester I began to get a little overwhelmed with the length of the paper that was assigned. The urge to drop out of DelTech was also overwhelming, but my family and large support group helped keep my sanity and work through. After taking my time, examining the work closely, and reaching out for help I soon finished the paper and realised I was overreacting. A couple days passed before I began adapting to the APA style, which I had forgotten most of by this time. However, I was far more knowledgeable in the world of APA than when the semester began.
