English 1101 has been a very beneficial class. This class has allowed me to take a dive into more strenuous work that deals with writing. So far in English 1101 I have completed my common app. essay, a resúme, an essay about my future goals, an educational history narrative, and an advertisement analysis essay. All of the assignments have already benefited me in some way. I no longer need to spend additional time on creating a resúme or writing my essay that I will use when applying to colleges. The other assignments have allowed me to acknowledge who I am as a writer while reflecting on my past experiences throughout life. In English 1101 so far I have discovered numerous things. Reflecting on past experiences can be full of emotion. When looking back upon challenges that I have conquered, or happy vivid elementary memories I’ve discovered that I have came a long way. Recalling past events and putting them on paper is an emotional process, both negatively and positively. While creating my assignments I have had many small but difficult situations. My writing is not particularly the best. Math and science is what I succeed in, reading, writing, and …show more content…
The assignment I am most proud of so far in the semester is my common application essay. The essay required me to dig into a part of my past that is very emotional for me. Even though this was hard the final part of the essay highlighted my achievements and for that reason writing this essay gave me a sense of accomplishment in my journey. Writing is a beautiful thing that allows us to reflect on our lives or tell a story. Honestly before this class I’ve hated everything that has to do with reading, writing, and English. I’m still not overly fond of reading or English because I don’t excel at it but, writing is becoming more appealing to
I have learned a lot so far in English 1101, about myself and about writing. I have discovered that it is sometimes difficult for me to find topics to write about, but once I get an idea it is very easy for me to start writing. English has always been one of the subjects that I tend to struggle with, but this class has helped me realize that I actually enjoy writing. I have never really been able to write a lot about topics of my choice in the past. I am more accustomed to writing papers related to one specific topic. This class gives you a prompt to write about, but you are generally able to expand on that and choose your own topic as long as it relates to the prompt.
English 101 is one of the most common college courses in the world. When I enrolled in the class, I was bothered that I would have spend forty hours in a freshman writing class; along with at least another forty hours throughout the semester writing for the class. What surprised me, was that when I began writing my essays I was not annoyed or bothered; I actually enjoyed the assignments. Most importantly, throughout the course of the semester, I have become a better writer and have ultimately met the course goals of English 101.
Entering this course I was worried because I have struggled with writing in the past, and writing has never been my strongest area. I feared writing classes in middle and high school, and had the same expectations for this course. I had wondered if I was ready for college English, and was worried that my skills and abilities would not be one the level they needed to be for college courses. My attitude and understanding of my writing process have both changed since the beginning of this semester. One thing that really helped my attitude and confidence was the fact that I was able to complete the assignments and get a decent grade. I was worried that I might not be able to do college level writing, and when I started completing the assignments and learning new ways to write my confidence and attitude changed. Another thing that really helped me throughout this course was that there was plenty of reading and information available to guide me through my assignments. I realized that there was more freedom when it comes to writing than I had experienced in high school. Being able to write more freely, and the freedom to choose what subjects I would write over made the assignments more enjoyable and easier to
My biggest improvement in this English 111 class was my writing. Writing tasks that were assigned greatly strengthened my overall performance throughout the course, preparing me for the future classes. The environment made me feel at ease, helping me evolve as a student, and as a person. The environment made me feel at ease, preparing me for future classes. Another large achievement of mine that I displayed in the class, was my ability to talk comfortably with the other students. The variety of group activities we did allowed me to openly speak my opinion, leading to a better overall performance with my work and papers. The English 111 class enabled me to have better participation in and out of class and allowed
The first day of my junior year I was extremely overwhelmed by this class; all the essays we were required to write in the first week didn't help much either. However, since the beginning of the year I have learned so many useful and important lessons which have guided my learning throughout this first semester and, I'm assuming, will continue to guide me for the rest of my high school experience and beyond. In addition, I have made many goals which pertain to essays I have written, and I believe I have met those goals.
What I learned in English 1113 I am an international student from China and this is my first semester studying at the University of Oklahoma. ENGL 1113 Principles of English Composition is the basic academic writing class for all the students at the OU. According to the First-Year Composition, English 1113 focuses on the language of power in two ways “the power of language” and “the relationship between power and language “(First-Year Composition). English 1113 helps students learn how to use language analysis and understand reading materials. More than that, English 1113 teaches the format of the essay, which is MLA.
Throughout the semester I have learned an astounding amount of information. The English 101 curriculum has not only taught me how to write in general, but also taught me a variety of ways to get my point across to the reader. Before I took English 101 I was an average writer at best, but now that I am taking a class that focuses on writing strategies I feel that I have been able to improve as a writer. During the course we were taught how to write an informative essay as well as how to write a persuasive essay. The type of writing that this class has taught me will most definitely help me with future classes as well as my future in the real world. Throughout the English 101 course I have been able to improve as a writer by composing essays
Hoping for the best but expecting the worst, I walked in to English not knowing what to expect. English 111 was boring at times but in many ways helpful. College Composition I main objective is to teach students the fundamentals of academic writing and critical thinking. Aside from learning how to academically write, recognizing grammatical errors, tone, and different styles such as MLA, APA, and CMS, are some other things learned in the course. This essay will be evaluating the book as a whole, self-reflections, essays, my strengths and weaknesses and my professor.
As I look back on my English 101 experience, I have come to the conclusion that I have learned many new things that have improved my abilities as a writer. I have learned some new techniques that have improved my ways of approaching an essay. I learned all about the rhetorical appeals and how to apply them in my writing and how to look for them in a essay written by a author. I have also learned how to argue both sides of a argument, and how to look for reliable sources and to properly quote and site the author of the essay. I feel as if I have become a better writer and my improved writing skills are shown within each essay.
Over the course of this semester I learned a lot about myself as a writer. This English 101 class has really allowed me to expand my essay structure and ways of thinking. This was my first college writing course and it has given me much more freedom when writing because in high school I felt limited and like what we were writing was not very important. In high school I would write essays to just to fulfill the required word or page count and to a degree I still feel like this but maybe that is why I am an engineering major but in this course I actually was able to express my ideas and for the first time really test the limits of my writing capabilities. I really enjoyed being able to incorporate my voice more in my essays and I believe that I developed my own personal style a bit from this. At the beginning of the semester my writing was quite choppy and there was plenty of room for improvement in the overall flow of my essays. Now, I use several different tactics such as outlining to create better connections between paragraphs. I believe I was able to move beyond many of the high school ways of writing and make general improvements to my essays.
When we talk about English 1110, everyone actually knows the main part of the course is writing. The goal of this class is to improve structural, style of writing, thoughts and performances of students. During this semester, the curriculum includes essays and topics from many different aspects of different issues which are useful to me. From this class, I had the opportunity to improve my writing skills. For example, before writing a paper, I always have outline, strategies, arranging and modifying as well as finding ideas to improve my writing style in a better way. Before taking English 1101, I just wrote essay with what I think of that time and did not care whether my essay is understandable or not; however, i have been improved for the past three months. When I see a title, I start to write down all ideas and also create an outline and order of all documents in a reasonable manner. In addition, all response papers that I have done during this semester I started to have different way of thinking by listening my friend's arguments, feedbacks or comments, agreements or disagreements. Those group activities from friends were helpful because I started to recognize what are right and wrong things in my essay. From there, I have my own personal opinions and defend my arguments.
With my first semester as a college student coming to an end, I can honestly say I have gained so much knowledge and this has been a major eye opening experience. By being in your English 111 class, I have learned a great deal about myself as a writer and a communicator. English used to be a subject I took for granted because I always considered it to be easy and there wasn’t much to it. You have helped me realize that in order to write a good paper, it is important to have a deeper understanding of the many structures and usages; as well as a better understanding of yourself and your audience. In what seems like such a short time, I have learned about rhetorical knowledge, the writing process, oral communication, critical thinking/reading/writing, and digital technology.
It’s halfway through the year, and miraculously, time continuously disappears. Throughout the past six months, Core has been filled with countless writing assignments. Including, DBQs, Quick Writes, literary essays, and journals (the most time consuming literary assignments). Although diligently persevering through all the writing assignments can become excruciatingly frustrating and annoying, I’m definitely a stronger and more experienced writer now than I was at the beginning of the school year. When journals began, a few minuscule weeks into the school year, it was a reality check - English wouldn’t be an “easy A” like the years past. While my first journal grade, a B, wasn’t terrible, I aspired to achieve an A. Reflecting on my progress, the difference of a grade
It wasn't until I began GCSE that I ever began to think of maths as something to take further in life. I appreciated the satisfaction of getting questions right after working through the problems. I then went on to take a level math which was a small leap from GCSE as we started to study new concepts. Working through the more complex question has helped to enhance my ability to analyse information which I believe will apply to all aspect of life. I’m interested in taking an accounting and finance course at university because I feel that it will fuel my logical and ambitious nature.
Looking through my past submissions and pieces of work throughout this past semester, I have made many realizations in regards to my progress as an English student. Through re-reading my writing, and reviewing the feedback I have received on my writing, I can recognize my growth as an English student. In addition to realizing my growth, I am also able to see a lot of areas that still need work. This past semester I have faced many challenges, I have pushed myself to go outside of my comfort zone, and I have excelled in several areas. After analyzing my past works from this semester, I have identified many re-occurring strengths and weaknesses from each unit, as well as challenges and goal assessments for myself in the future.
