Recommended: Success comes to those who work hard
Working toward something is always a struggle because I believe without struggle there would not be any success. Success comes to those that are working tremendously hard and those that do not give up when everybody else does. Reaching a short or long-term goal required dedication, determination, and the sacrifice of giving up one thing for another thing. The same rule applies in education, in English 102, the writing and research that I did and also the revision process that I went through helped me to gain more knowledge and understand more of “academic writing and research”. It took me quite a while to figure out what I want to research on and the hardest step to my research papers was maintaining a controlling purpose. From here on, I …show more content…
English 102 was a new challenge for me, previous classes were not as challenging as English 102 because of the complexity that it presented to me as a student. Writing and presenting inquiry writing and academic research was a new experience for me and it was a challenging task. With this new challenge, I seek for help through the instructor, friends, peer reviews and family members. A good way for me to engage with my readers in my research papers was I tried to focus on how clear I am communicating with the reader and how I am creating conversations between sources. An example of that from my research paper …show more content…
Getting feedback from classmates was a very helpful strategy because I was able to see their views and perspectives on my paper. It gave me a way to understand how my audiences read and interpreted my paper. Some helpful feedback from my peers were:
How do all your sources connect with each other? You could expand or work new ideas off of what you feel/think? What more could you say about these statistics? You should input more of your own voice. You should cite more scholarly sources to strengthen the attention and overview. Awesome job on finding good sources.
With these feedbacks, I know where the weakness and strongest place in my paper and I was able to make changes to my paper. I used the feedback to improve my paper from an okay paper to a good paper and I was able to communicate my own interest and experience into the
English 122 has been a challenging class for me to learn about my writing and researching techniques. This essay is about how the assignments help me with my writing and which assignments are challenging for me.
Taking ENC 1101 this fall has taught me a few valuable components in regards to composition and college life. These past few months I have learned how to participate in an argument, source my research using MLA format and how crucially important it is to submit assignments ahead of time.
Getting feedback is very helpful. It can make you a better writer, it helps you to determine that you understand the assignment and to make sure you know what you’re talking about. With the feedback that was given to you in the original paper you can implement in your final piece by following through with feedback for example the feedback states that you have grammatical errors correct those, margins are out of place fix it, etc.
Without delay, I begin my in-depth look into the requirements of this study and what was expected of me, as an English 111 student. To successively complete these assignments, I would need to be focused on the process of such writing assignments. Along with the instructor’s ideas that our writing would be done in such different ways it will eventually consume every waking moment of my time and become top priority for the next four months.
English 102 taught me a variety of important lessons. In one aspect, I learned how to work better with others. Similarly, the literary research paper deepened my understanding of other cultures. Lastly, my writing abilities have improved. The assignments and projects were an effective means of providing learning and growth.
...lt material and write a five page paper on it, it was much simple so this was a new and difficult concept. I got valuable skills out this class, experience in research, using citations and glimpse into reading material for college. Getting experience with this will be beneficial in my future college language art classes. At the beginning of writing 121 I knew it was going to be hard but I thought I wouldn’t enjoy the material. Quite the contrary, reading Chekhov’s stories were difficult to understand but very interesting because I wasn’t used to reading material in that format or maybe I had but hadn’t really given it much thought. I also found the articles addressing poverty interesting. It was interesting seeing different writers perspective on the issue then arguing my own. The experience and knowledge I have gained will be valuable in my future college paper.
Throughout this semester we have had to write many types of essays. Although this is a college English class there is still room for improvement. I made much improvement during the semester of the class. I was able to identify my weaknesses. I learned how to make improvements to the areas I was having problems in. Although each essay we did was different I was able to begin with one essay and throughout the semester turn it into two other essays. I was able to change my style of writing to fit the type of audience I was working with. I will continue to work on my writing and keep improving it.
Over this entire course, we have written around 5 papers. This does not include this paper. Each of these papers were very different from each other. The types of papers varied. There was a new type of paper to write every 2 weeks usually. The papers I wrote were good but had much room for improvement in my opinion. I examined each paper after it was graded
I have always known that writing was not my strong point. Entering writing 101 in September I was very much afraid. I knew that the expectations would be very high for this course; thus it would be more difficult than any other writing class I had previously taken. At first writing was a nightmare for me, but thanks to the assistance from professor Smart and my tutors, I have improved drastically in my writing skills and, as a result I am now a better writer. During the course of four months, I have learned so much. There were a few bumps in the way throughout the semester, but I managed to overcome them. It is hard to believe that my journey in writing 101 is coming to an end. Through my hard work and dedication, this class has helped me to build confidence in my writing that will help me throughout my college life.
I am sitting in my bed, thinking about my process of writing as I am trying to go through it. It seems the more I think about it, the less I understand it. When I am writing, I don’t think. Which I know, sounds bad. But, I spend every single moment of every single day over thinking, over analyzing, and over assuming every aspect of my life. When I’m writing, I’m free from that for just a little bit. Until of course, my hands stop typing or the pencil (no pens- never pens) stops moving, then I’m right back on the carousel that is my brain. Heidi Estrem says, “...writers use writing to generate knowledge that they didn’t have before.” (Writing is a Knowledge-Making Activity 18). I believe my ability to write without an exact destination
Hoping for the best but expecting the worst, I walked in to English not knowing what to expect. English 111 was boring at times but in many ways helpful. College Composition I main objective is to teach students the fundamentals of academic writing and critical thinking. Aside from learning how to academically write, recognizing grammatical errors, tone, and different styles such as MLA, APA, and CMS, are some other things learned in the course. This essay will be evaluating the book as a whole, self-reflections, essays, my strengths and weaknesses and my professor.
From all the things that I have covered, none of them were as trying as the inevitable research paper. I was worried about the final product and the grade I would receive because I have not had much luck with writing research papers in the past. I find them to be too tedious when having to cite research and quotations that I often did it incorrectly. My works cited page was often messy and unorganized and I could never find enough things to say about my topic in order to fulfill the designated word quota. This time around, I felt a little more confident because I had an outlined guide found in my “Common Sense” text that helped me overcome my worry about the specifics of citing and quoting as well as the organization of my works cited page....
a) The problems that arise when using examples of authority is that statistics can be misinterpreted by the readers. Two legitimate sources on the same topic can provide two different stats. When the author uses statistics and theoretical research in the article it is simply used as an example, and not as a fact. Statistics can vary depending on the location and the results may be different.
I learned the importance of making several drafts for one paper. Every writer can always make improvements because a paper is never perfect on the first draft. At least three drafts should be made before submitting. Secondly, it is important for ideas to be organized. One idea should smoothly transition into the next for the reader to easily understand the author’s arguments. Thirdly, it is helpful to have others give corrections on the student’s paper. Asking the professor or peers for critiques allows to see possible errors and ways to make the paper
Feedback is a way to let people know how effective they are in what they are trying to accomplish, or how they affect you. It provides a way for people to learn how they affect the world around them, and it helps us to become more effective. If we know how other people see us, we can overcome problems in how we communicate and interact with them. Of course, there are two sides to it: giving feedback, and receiving it.
