When I first began English 098 my writing was horrible, I misused commas, and had incomplete sentences. I had no idea of any prewriting strategies. I had no idea how to write a good paper. I look at papers and essays now and have enjoyment rather than when I first started English 098 and hated reading and writing. English 098 has taught me many important writing techniques. I now know important steps to starting a paper, how to write a firm thesis statement, and how to write an argument essay. Beginning a paper has always been tough for me. English 098 taught me how to make writing a paper easier. I now know ways how to prewrite. Prewriting is important because it helps gather ideas and organize ideas. Before English 098 I would never follow certain steps to complete papers. Now I will prewrite for five minutes, about the topic I am assigned. Stopping for five minutes and just writing really helps me focus on what the topic is about. After the five minutes of writing I can see on paper different ideas I can write about. Prewriting is important and something I will do before writing any paper. In English 098 my teacher focused on having a firm …show more content…
However, after the six-week class I now know how to write an argument essay. I learned that an argument essay must have a clear one side argument. I learned that an argument essay must try and persuade their readers to make a change. The essay should not be about both sides of the argument. An argument essay should also have valid evidence to support your claim. I really liked the activity we did in class, when we all stood up and choose if we were for or against marijuana, then went to opposite sides of the class and told each other why we supported or why we were against the sale of marijuana to people legally. This activity in class really showed how each and every one had their own view on a subject and their own
As I look back into my high school years, I thought I wrote papers well. But then coming into a college environment, my papers were mediocre. By overlooking at my past papers, I found that they were unorganized, sloppy and had bad use of diction. From now on, I will use the tools I learned in English 1100-40 as a foundation for the future papers I intend on writing in college. Following the criteria of organizing ideas so that they flow, impacting the reader with diction and also by being creative, will help become an ideal writer. Following the criteria of staying motivated in short and long term goals, taking responsibility for actions and finally the ability to study well will help me develop into a supreme student.
I have learned a lot so far in English 1101, about myself and about writing. I have discovered that it is sometimes difficult for me to find topics to write about, but once I get an idea it is very easy for me to start writing. English has always been one of the subjects that I tend to struggle with, but this class has helped me realize that I actually enjoy writing. I have never really been able to write a lot about topics of my choice in the past. I am more accustomed to writing papers related to one specific topic. This class gives you a prompt to write about, but you are generally able to expand on that and choose your own topic as long as it relates to the prompt.
During the English 160 course, I improved my approach to writing and developing papers, build on critical reading and grammatical skills, and exceed my previous abilities to write a strong paper as I took into consideration different genre based audiences. If my improvement does not exemplify my determination to learn and prepare for English 161, then I politely request you review my portfolio.
I am concerned about the type of writing that will be done in English 1101, rhetoric writing is one of my weaker areas of English mostly due to the fact that I have a scientific mindset, I do best when the facts are presented to me. As I sat down in class on Tuesday my mind was rushing to remember when was the last time I wrote a paper which involved the writer’s opinion and not just facts, sadly none came to mind. During my short time on this earth all of my previous teachers specifically stated not to use first person and cut our thoughts out of our writing. My previous experiences will ultimately fail me unless I change my mindset, glancing over the syllabus I did notice that some facts might creep in to aid, particularly when it comes to arguing, facts will reinsure my rhetoric will have an impact on the audience. I can expect for this course to challenge me, it will be roller coaster, having its ups and downs, predominantly in the areas of understanding and answering the prompt, but in the end I am confident it will increase my writing skills by at least ten fold.
English 1020 is the second English course I have taken in my second term at Wayne State University. According to English 1020 syllabus

The assignments and in-class activities for English 250 formed me into a skilled communicator in the WOVE areas of visual and oral communication, and I plan to continue practicing these skills through the communication that is necessary for future leadership opportunities.

When I first came into English 1101, I lacked confidence in my writing. I didn’t know if I was writing correctly or even forming an essay correctly, also I experienced trouble with research papers and the process of writing these kinds of essays. I would often feel overwhelmed and embarrassed since I was never taught how to write any essay correctly. I was thinking to myself, how could I have not known how to write? Writing should have been something so first nature to me, but through the help of Mrs. Hermanson and her positive attitude, eager to teach, and nurturing nature, I felt unafraid to make mistakes, I became more confident in my writing and ready take on the world of writing.
Before I began the semester, writing papers were not my strong suit. I really did not enjoy writing because I believed it to be a difficult process. More specifically beginning a paper was extremely difficult for me. It was tough to start a paper and put my ideas in an orderly fashion to compose a decent paper. While practicing with writing techniques, I found that listing my thoughts helped me. Prewriting gave me the chance to gather all of my ideas and begin my papers quicker. I
Throughout this semester I have learned many ways of writing through two main essays literacy narrative and comparison and contrast. These two essays have taught me how to correctly fix my comma splices, thesis statements, and capitalization. I have engaged in numerous learning material during this summer class. Many times when I thought it would be hard to work on those three developments I never gave up. I gain more positive feedback from my teacher because he pointed out most of my mistakes I made on both literacy narrative and comparison and contrast essays to help me understand what is it that I need to work on. My development as a writer became stronger.

The goal of this class is to improve structural, style of writing, thoughts and performances of students. During this semester, the curriculum includes essays and topics from many different aspects of different issues which are useful to me. From this class, I had the opportunity to improve my writing skills. For example, before writing a paper, I always have outline, strategies, arranging and modifying as well as finding ideas to improve my writing style in a better way. Before taking English 1101, I just wrote essay with what I think of that time and did not care whether my essay is understandable or not; however, i have been improved for the past three months. When I see a title, I start to write down all ideas and also create an outline and order of all documents in a reasonable manner. In addition, all response papers that I have done during this semester I started to have different way of thinking by listening my friend's arguments, feedbacks or comments, agreements or disagreements. Those group activities from friends were helpful because I started to recognize what are right and wrong things in my essay. From there, I have my own personal opinions and defend my arguments.

I have learned multiple strategies below to guide me in the most effective ways to improve my writings.
In the first essay that I have written this semester, I learned quite a few largely-important points about writing. Before this class, I knew very little about any writing method. The first essay taught me the incredible importance of a thesis. Without a thesis, a paper cannot accomplish anything; it becomes nothing more than rambling nonsense. Another important thing that the first essay taught me was comma placement. I have always struggled with comma placement. This essay helped me to understand it a lot more than I previously did.
Throughout English 101 I have matured as a writer and acquired skills that will prepare me for the next level of writing. I feel immersed in the information I have been taught and understand what it takes to be a good writer. I have revised my papers with the proper use of grammar and composed thought provoking essays. This class has helped me significantly by improving my writing into proper english papers. Without these learning skills it would be impractical for me to convey opinions and thoughts grammatically. In the beginning of the semester my writing was undeveloped which resulted in incomplete papers. I have learned how to successfully methodize and formulate my thoughts for each essay into an understandable format. This semester has
