Stainless steel kettle
The kettle is a type of household appliance, usually manufactured of metal made for boiling water. The kettle is a widely used household item that has been developed and engineered over many years to boil water. It has been taken for granted, not appreciated of what engineers have done to manufacture this product and what thought and pressure the engineers had to undergo to produce such a simple product.
Kettles have been used ever since the ancient romans times, made from iron or a ceramic material. The first electrical kettles that used heating elements were introduced in 1891 by the Carpenter Electric Company of Chicago. The Ceramic kettle became widely used during world war two as metal used for the kettle was in short supply thus making ceramics the best material for kettles during that time not only this but because of the excellent properties ceramics.
The production of a kettle involves many materials and machines to manufacture it. The kettles manufactured today are made with many other materials other than what was used 50 years ago.
Today kettles are made using materials such as plastic, copper, stainless steel and may other products such as rubber and high resistance metals for the heating element. The stainless steel kettle that has been chosen for this report is made from many of these materials. The materials present in this kettle are stainless steel, copper, thermosetting plastic, rubber and a heating element which is made of a high resistance metal.
Stainless steel is one of the materials used in this kettle and is now used more frequently within kettles today because is it impressive properties, one of the main being its resistance ...

...of the kettle. This is where an electrical current passes through a coil with high resistance restricting the flow of electrons thus causing the coil to heat up and make the water boil. Nichrome is commonly the material used in the heating element; it is 80% nickel and 20% chromium and is the ultimate material because of its moderately high resistance and procedures a coating of chromium oxide when it is heated upon first application. Nichrome does not oxidize which prevents it from breaking down or burning.
The compound Nichrome is an alloy, made by joining nickel, iron and chromium metals. These metals are good resistors thus making it perfect for this application and for a heating element. In comparison the creation of Nichrome and the heating element has made life easier from what it was 50 years ago making it a great engineered product.
Although this was a highly developed technique in Staffordshire it was used in other surrounding areas such as London and Wrotham.Staffordshire slipware usually has three categories flatware which are plates, dishes and bowls, jugs and lidded pots are classified as hollow ware, and miscellaneous ware includes money boxes, cradles and candle sticks.Just as tea was important in the development of Raku Ware in Japan, so the Elers brothers who studied salt glazes in Europe and moved to Staffordshire in the 1690s, produced small tea pots, tea canisters, teacups and jugs. They used finely prepared red clay which was thrown on the wheel, and then lathed when leather hard. (Common salt is thrown into the kiln during firing 1200oc to produce a salt glaze)In Raku any clay that copes with the firing technique must be able to withstand heat shock without warping, distorting or cracking. The clay needs to have particles in it to allow water to escape quickly so calcinated China clay or clay with temper (grog, flint or shell) added to it, is successful. This clay occurred naturally in Japan.
Stainless steel, especially, Austenitic stainless steel, because of their high corrosion resistance and customizable mechanical properties has become an indispensable part of the regularly evolving modern day technology. Stainless steels of various grades find applications in numerous fields starting from the household to the nuclear reactors; from food and beverage cans to construction of different automobile parts. The formation of impervious oxide layer on the surface makes it suitable for use in adverse environments such as sea water.
In 1750 workers would do the same thing such as making shoes. Their means of production would simply be small tools. In 1850 they would do many boring things instead of just one.
The Rococo idiom began to have an impact the American colonies. The Rococo styles were applied to on vessels. The silver trays had designs around that are carefully designed. The flat part of the silver tray had designs that interact with each other. The Tea server design is astonishing. The way the design are being mold on it. There is not any part of the tea server that has no design. I am surprised on how the people are able to design this piece of work. In reality, these items are pieces of artwork. My mother as well was astonished on the details the silver-plated tray and silver tea
Wanting to address the everyday consumer needs of safe cooking and electricity for those live in provincial societies, Bright Light Innovations of Colorado State University have developed a new product in which their management team of Business and Engineering students’ have considered as a definite solution through their revolutionary product—called the Starlight Stove. The handle of the kettle look simple and is curved with balance” (Abdulaziz . par 5). These unique design elements that Bernhs created combined gave the kettle a industrial design look to them, balanced yet very modern and trendy during that time period. The last design standard of industrial design was the use of technology in this product. This technology used inside the kettle was a very innovative design; there was no product like it. In fact, according to collections.com, in the Inside of the kettle there was electric wiring, and it ran along the inside of the kettle. This technology heated the liquid up (either tea or coffee) in the kettle just by plugging it into the wall (collections .par 1). This innovative industrial technology made it possible for people’s lives to be easier, it allowed people to use this appliance anytime and anywhere. Looking at this invention, this was a unique industrial artifact because it was not only a household appliance that convenient to use anywhere, it was also a stylish statement piece in any household. This is an example of form follows
Around the 19th century, some warmers housed a separate teapot or replaced the food compartment altogether. Given its ability to hold individual portions of food or liquids, warmers were generally used at an infant or invalid’s bedside. As regularly used household items, there
In this lab, we dissolved Sodium hydroxide, a strong base and corrosive, in 50ml of water to observe the change in temperature of the solution. At room temperature, sodium hydroxide is a white crystal-like odorless solid that absorbs moisture from the air. When dissolved in water or used to neutralized acid, it unleashes substantial heat which undoubtedly the predominant catalyst for the change in the energy. The heat that is produced by sodium hydroxide is sufficient to ignite combustible substances, as it is very corrosive. Sodium hydroxide is often manufactured to soaps, paper, explosives, and petroleum products. It is also used in processing cotton fabric, laundering and bleaching, and metal cleaning and processing. Additionally, it is commonly present in commercial drains and oven cleaners. (“SODIUM HYDROXIDE”)
Thanks to technology, in 1939 pressure cooker was introduced. Pressure cooker allow liquid to boils at higher temperature. Water for example normally boils at 100 degree Celcius, but with a pressure cooker the sealed lid doesn't allow air or liquid to escape and enable water to boils higher at 125 celcius.
The earliest recognized kettle-shaped vessel was discovered in Mesopotamia and dates back to between 3500 and 2000 B.C.E. It’s made from bronze and features a decorated spout. However, aside from its similar shape, experts don’t believe that it shares any comparable functions with the kettle which has evolved over the past 200 years. The history of the electric kettle is linked with that of early iron and copper kettles, which were originally used for cooking. Kettles for cooking eventually evolved into tea kettles, which took different forms in various countries. The elegant Russian samovar, made of metal, is thought to have originated in Persia. In England, silver kettles became part of the English tea tradition
In recent years, diversification and changes in lifestyle, due to differences in the lifetime of the family between the opportunity to drink tea with a teapot is reduced mainly in middle-aged and young layer have.
A hot surface water tap would also may cause scalding burns. Scald burns are the common injuries occurs. By ways to prevent it by choosing the best materials which may withstand the heat and also temperature of the water flow. For example is by choosing the best materials, such as brass and nickel materials. The metal is a resistance of corrosion, fatigue resistance, and also heat conductivity that makes it suitable to be used in household or in buildings appliances. But a normal tap water will have a different heat resistance.
