I have been a student at Baltimore City Community College (BCCC) for one year. I appreciate that I had an opportunity to take the RENG92 class to improve my English skills especially writing, as well as Prof. Pope to teach me things that I did not learn in RNEG 91 class. Many things changed now from where RENG 92 class started; therefore, I could find my weakness and strength, furthermore, I could know how I should prepare for ENG 101. Writing essay is the most difficult part of this class
During the English 160 course, I improved my approach to writing and developing papers, build on critical reading and grammatical skills, and exceed my previous abilities to write a strong paper as I took into consideration different genre based audiences. If my improvement does not exemplify my determination to learn and prepare for English 161, then I politely request you review my portfolio.
After a semester in English 101 I have become a more sophisticated writer. I have mastered the course goals such as, understanding the nature of parody, properly using the writing process, and finally developing strong
The purpose of the English 250 course was to help students like myself realize the importance of all aspects of WOVE in their daily lives and future careers. In addition to writing papers, we practiced slideshow presentations, discussion panels, web design, and professional emails. The assignments and in-class activities for English 250 formed me into a skilled communicator in the WOVE areas of visual and oral communication, and I plan to continue practicing these skills through the communication that is necessary for future leadership opportunities.
My biggest improvement in this English 111 class was my writing. Writing tasks that were assigned greatly strengthened my overall performance throughout the course, preparing me for the future classes. The environment made me feel at ease, helping me evolve as a student, and as a person. The environment made me feel at ease, preparing me for future classes. Another large achievement of mine that I displayed in the class, was my ability to talk comfortably with the other students. The variety of group activities we did allowed me to openly speak my opinion, leading to a better overall performance with my work and papers. The English 111 class enabled me to have better participation in and out of class and allowed
Before this quarter started I was fairly confident that I had what it took to ace English 101. After the first paper, I realized I was mistaken. Throughout this quarter I have had numerous problems with my writing that proved I needed to do a little more studying to help take my writing to the college level. Although I did not fail any of my papers, there was plenty of room for improvement. All the areas I needed to improve on are all areas that I think every English 101 student should know. I believe that every student at the college level should know how to cite sources correctly, know how to use good transitions, and know how to properly elaborate their examples.
Throughout the semester I have learned an astounding amount of information. The English 101 curriculum has not only taught me how to write in general, but also taught me a variety of ways to get my point across to the reader. Before I took English 101 I was an average writer at best, but now that I am taking a class that focuses on writing strategies I feel that I have been able to improve as a writer. During the course we were taught how to write an informative essay as well as how to write a persuasive essay. The type of writing that this class has taught me will most definitely help me with future classes as well as my future in the real world. Throughout the English 101 course I have been able to improve as a writer by composing essays
Writing has never been a strength I have possessed. English 102 has been difficult and challenging for me because I have had to move past the high school level of a basic book report or a five paragraph paper that has narrowed my ideas of writing for many years. Putting on paper what my thoughts are in a way that is logical and accurate for what the assignment is asking has been hard for me this semester. My ideas are now more involved because I have learned through English 102 how to develop my writing skills in different formats, for example, in an annotated bibliography and a research paper. English 102 has taught me many things about writing like locating sources from the library and on line as well as continuing
In COL 101 I have learned many new things about college. Since this is my first semester at college I did not really know where everything was. This class really helped me to learn new things about myself, including what resources are available to me, what my plan for the future is, and the many changes I have endured during this course.
“We cannot change the cards we are dealt, just how we play the hand” (24). Life has ups and downs and it is bound to happen to everyone. Whether it is a death in a family to getting fired. But there is one thing you can do to make your life interesting.
When I first began English 098 my writing was horrible, I misused commas, and had incomplete sentences. I had no idea of any prewriting strategies. I had no idea how to write a good paper. I look at papers and essays now and have enjoyment rather than when I first started English 098 and hated reading and writing. English 098 has taught me many important writing techniques. I now know important steps to starting a paper, how to write a firm thesis statement, and how to write an argument essay.
The government has always intrigued me, with the many different agencies. One part that I have always wanted to see what happens on the inside is the different congressional offices. If you are a part of a congressional office, you get to help bring change in our world. In serving the people, you help individuals feel as though their voices are heard. In an AP Seminar project, we learned about different perspectives; that project lead me to realizing how many perspectives about a broad range of topics exist in our world. Being a state’s congressman/ woman means you bring all of those perspectives together, to adhere to the wants of that state. I believe it is very important that a voice is given to the voiceless, which is exactly what congress has the ability to do. I believe in our current political climate, that it is important for younger generations, like mine, to be involved in the government, so that in the future they can play an active role in democracy. I want to fully learn how different parts of the government work, and to know how they function, you have to be a part of them, or be taught by someone who is. I want to be a future leader in America, just like Girls Scouts has taught me to be, anything I want to be.
...larify the structure and destination in which I was headed. By revising my essays I was able to make the content and message seem more important and made the final drafts seem a slight degree better than the originals, but the finals were better nonetheless. The instructor did a very good job in guiding me and helping find my way into writing by focusing on some of the problems I was facing and clarified them so that I would better understand them. The instructor helped me expand on my grammatical by helping me discover what it was that I lacked while constructing basic sentence structure; the usage of commas and semi-colons, quotations, and how to sight titles of books and articles within an essay. This English 101 course I have attended has helped me develop better writing skills as well as helped me create more profound essays and a very satisfying research paper.
Before I started this course, I wasn’t aware of the material the course was going to cover. The only thing I knew about the course was that it was going to teach me strategies and methods that will help me assist my English Language Learner students. However, this course covered more than just ELL strategies. By taking different surveys, I found myself being more aware about different myths and stereotypes that our surroundings have implemented in us. We are full of misconceptions and stereotypes, but it is hard for us to noticed because we do not pay attention to this.
Looking back over the course of the semester, I feel that I learned many new and interesting uses for technology within the classroom – both for classrooms that have a lot of technology and for classrooms that are limited with technology. For the majority of the class, we utilized William Kists’ book The Socially Networked Classroom: Teaching in the New Media Age (2010), which provided multiple modes of instruction that both utilized and/or created technology. One of the first things that I remember, and consequently that stuck with me through the course’s entirety, is that individuals must treat everything as a text. Even a garden is a text. The statement made me change the way that I traditionally viewed Language Arts both as a student and as a teacher, as I very narrowly saw literature and works of the like as texts only; however, by considering nearly anything as a text, one can analyze, study, and even expand his/her knowledge. Kist (2010) states that society is “experiencing a vast transformation of the way we “read” and “write,” and a broadening of the way we conceptualize “literacy” (p. 2). In order to begin to experience and learn with the modern classroom and technologically advanced students, individuals must begin to see new things as literature and analyze those things in a similar manner.
There was a significant amount of knowledge given in this course, involving concepts that in our teaching career will be extremely important. From this course I have gained a significant amount of learning experiences. I had the pleasure learning about how the educational system has come to be what it is today and who were the important people in the creation of the public education, like Horace Mann. Watching the videos and reading the chapters required has opened my eyes more of how a teacher should respond to different situations involving a student, For example when we read the chapter on the laws that revolve around the educators and the students. I had absolutely no clue that students had rights while in school property. Another learning
