The relationship between empathy and attitudes towards individual with schizophrenia
Introduction: In recent years, Research strongly suggests that schizophrenia involves problems with the chemicals in the brains and structure and thought to be caused by a mixture of genetic and environmental factors. Overall, there are generally negative attitudes towards a person with schizophrenia. Many studies and investigations were carried to improve the stigma level associated towards this disorder and which has allowed people to improve their knowledge about the topic (Corrigan and Watson, 2002).
There are Researchers have established that there is a lot of relationship between empathy and stigma. To some extent, they can complement each other, but by definition and in practice, there is no relationship between the two states. Society labels them and what causes them to be or behaviour in a way that leads to somebody commit suicide. The person with the schizophrenia is treated as a problem not a person with problems. The victims think they will be rejected socially and so believe they are hopeless and life is no worth of living it’s like trapped on a treadmill running in the same place Corrigan (2004).
Some people try to create stigma over people because they act different over a medical disorder or illness and assume that they are crazy. They are human being no different from anyone so treat them the same you would any other person. But besides all the stigma and pain faced by having schizophrenia society don’t completely change its view on schizophrenia believe that even if people reduce stigma and create a better way to receive mental health treatment there will always be people trying to create stigma in one or another.
