Eminem’s Life Story: The Way He Is
For many years people have been associating young adult’s violent behavior to rap music. Artists such as Eminem, Jay Z, 2 Pac, and many others are being blamed for the acts that teenagers commit, but why do these artists have such an influential impact on us? In our research of Eminem, our group is studying three main controversies; his upbringing, his attacks against family members and other artists, and his political views, in hopes to understand why his words influence millions of children and young adults. As Eminem said in an interview, “They portrayed me as a vicious, vile, evil person, but I wouldn’t have gotten anywhere in this business if I was just a complete a**hole” (“Eminem on His”).

While Eminem portrays himself as being from Detroit, he is actually from Missouri. He moved back and forth between Detroit, Michigan and Kansas City, Missouri for most of his childhood. At the age of seventeen, Eminem started getting serious about wanting to be a rapper, giving himself the nickname M&M (meaning Marshal Mathers) and later decided to change the spelling to Eminem with the second E backwards as part of his trademark. He failed 9th grade 3 times, then dropped out, “School wasn’t for me” (Eminem). An education was the last thing on his mind. After throwing himself into the rap world on many levels, usually being shut down, he kept trying.
Charles I was the second born son to King James I, who had also reigned under a constitutional monarchy, but large disagreement between Parliament and James I led to an essentially absolutist approach to governance. Likewise, Charles I disagreed with the Parliament on many factors. Charles was far from the contemporary model of a figurehead monarchy we see in today’s world, and his political reach extended throughout the English empire, even to the New World. Infact, I claim, he practiced a more absolutist form of monarchy than did the Czars of Russia; he dissolved Parliament three times. This unprecedented power led to (other than corruption) a strict contradiction of the principles of republicanism which most constitutional monarchies agreed on. And while many were in favor of an overlooking Parliament, his unopposed voice led the voyage to the New World as well as the charter for the Massachussets Bay Colony, and he fostered many internal improvements throughout England, which further benifetted the economy. Unfortunately, Charles began to push his limits as a monarch, and many became upset (including New Worlders from Massachussets) to the point of abdicating him and executing him for treason. Nevertheless, his positive effects on society and political rennovations persist in today’s
Raised as an only child, Dwayne Micheal Carter Jr or more commonly referred to as Lil Wayne, was born September 27th, 1982, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Carter’s mother was only 19 years old when he was first born. He was being raised by both his mother and father until his father abandoned them while Dwayne Jr. was only two years old. After being abandoned by his biological father, his mother was forced to take care of him on her own and survive in the crime infested community of Holly grove, New Orleans. Even though he divorced his mother and remarried, his father forced the two live with his own mother and came by to abuse Lil Wayne’s mother on a consistent basis. This situation went on for three years until Lil Wayne’s mother eventually remarried and relocated to a different part of town. Growing up he did very well in school. He was actually enrolled in his school’s gifted program at a point and received top grades. He got into music at a very young age and wrote his first rap song at the age of eight. Lil Wayne had the drive to be the best and successful at his craft since he first began. At the age of nine he was challenging others twice his age and older at rapping. He would consistently go to neighborhood parties or events to rap and most of the time he was better then whatever adult he was going against. As a testament to this, at the age of nine he start receiving attention from one of the two co-founders of his future label, Slim Williams. From Slim, he then received other co-founder, Bryan Williams, phone number and what he did with it after that was truly caught the Bryan’s attention. He continuously called the number over and over leaving rap songs on the voicemail of Williams until he agreed to meet him in person...
Peter the Great was one of the important Czars to Russia. Peter’s reforms modernized Russia, bringing Western culture to the nation. Peter made Russia a more powerful nation by giving it more land, a larger army and a powerful navy. Without Peter’s desire to reform his nation, Russia would not be the way it is today.
Tupac Amaru Shakur was an African-American rapper, poet, and record producer during the 1990’s. In his adolescent years, he attended the Baltimore School for the Arts where he took acting and dance classes, like ballet. He was taught radical politics by his mother, which helped him develop ideas about topics he would later use in his many works. At an early age, Tupac had seen the injustices of the real world. His mother was a former Black Panther activist who turned to substance abuse during Tupac’s childhood. Aside from that, he and his mother also moved many times while they lived together in New York City. While Tupac was in Baltimore, he discovered rap; not long after, he and his mother moved to the West Coast where he joined the rap group
Peter the Great was born in Moscow on Thursday, May 30, 1672 on the feast of Saint Isaac of Dalmatia (Hughes 1). Pyotr Alexeevich, his formal name, was the fourteenth child born to Alexi I and his second wife Nataliya Kryillovna Naryshkina. Peter towered an astounding six feet seven inches tall. He started out sharing Power with his step-brother, Ivan, who was an invalid, but obtained sole power when he was twenty-four, after Ivan's death in 1696 ('Peter I of Russia' 1). Through his domestic, military, and government reforms, Peter the Great enabled Russia to be considered a leading eastern European state ('Peter the Great' 1).
In Hamlet, Ophelia exemplifies the classic embodiment of the battered woman. She makes no decisions for herself, takes orders from her father, her brother, as well as Hamlet. She knows no free will, and her death shows the toll that this lack of freedom takes on her mind. Ophelia is loyal to a fault, and because of this loyalty she has lost control of her body, her mind, and, ultimately, her life.
The name Ophelia has been most commonly associated with William Shakespeare's play, Hamlet, where she is referred to as the title character's mad lover. She is believed to have killed herself out of madness by drowning herself in a river. Interpretations about Ophelia's character have ranged from being a woman who lost her sanity upon her father, Polonius' death to being the object of hatred by Hamlet. However, despite her supporting character in the play, her personality has roused numerous criticisms and interpretations from philosophers and critics. This is probably due to the fact that her role in the play is more of a descriptive character rather than a speaking one. There are also various symbolisms towards the current society such as gender issues which her character represents. The character of Ophelia portrays relevant symbolisms to the feminine history which is continuously open to different interpretations from the sixteenth century up to this present day. Ophelia's character embodies the intrinsic sexual struggle that women in her time have commonly encountered.
Peter grew to be a large man, and had mastered over 14 professions, including carpentry and masonry. He also had an extraordinary capacity for drink, and a short temper that gave him a harsh reputation. When he became 18, Sophia was reluctant to give up her seat of power, and openly resisted his authority. When Ivan died in 1696, Peter became the sole Czar in Russia. The next year Peter decided to visit Europe and experience it first hand. This caused public outrage, because for over 600 years no ruler of Russia had set a foot out of his domain, this deeply shook the country.
Throughout his career, Tupac Shakur was accused of being many things. He was called a gangster, a thug, a criminal. The list goes on and on. However, those are not the words which describe the real Tupac Shakur. Despite what may be assumed of him, the real Tupac Shakur could be described as a philanthropist. A civil rights leader. A dedicated citizen who cared for his community and future generations more than he cared for himself. Although many don’t believe these descriptions to be accurate, a deeper look into some of his more meaningful songs reveals he should be seen as less of a thug, and more of an activist. Whether it’s in songs like ““Brenda’s Got a Baby” in which Tupac’s raps about a struggling African American teenager who accidentally
Throughout all of history, there has never been a man who influenced Russia as much as Tsar Peter I, also known as Peter the Great. Over the course of his rule over Russia, Peter the Great helped to bring a country with strong Eastern ties to those of the West. Particularly in regard to geography, Russia can be considered backwards as it is cut off from the warmer waters in western Europe. The country also began to Westernize as Peter I applied the commercial systems of other European countries to his own. In addition to exposing Russia to the West, Peter the great also expanded the military and modernized his governmental system. Mercantilism was also encouraged by Russia under Peter the Great, leading to both an increase in wealth and in
Ophelia is a beautiful young woman, easily influenced by the opinions and desires of those superior to her. This simple-mindedness is revealed through her relationships with the men in her life. Ophelia is most molded by her father and brother, Polonius and Laertes, who love her with their own faults. On the other hand, Hamlet manipulates his way into Ophelia’s heart and mind through professions of love. However, Hamlet is a womanizer and believes all women to be the same. This misogynistic perception is reflected in Ophelia and Gertrude’s striking similarities as the only two women in the play. Her lack of self without the dominating figures pulling her in opposite directions leads to her ultimate destruction.
People are surrounded by music every day of their lives. They hear it in their homes, on the radio on their way to work; some people have even caught themselves humming the tune of their favorite song to themselves. But how many people actually listen and not just hear the music they are listening to? Teens in particular don’t realize the message behind the music they are quoting the lyrics to, or the effect it has on them. In today’s culture where rap music has become increasingly popular, many teens aren’t realizing what they are listening to. A lot of teens would argue that the music they listen to has no effect on them, but they are wrong. Rap music, especially, has had a major impact on teenagers in today’s society.
