“Because I Could not Stop for Death”
In Emily Dickinson’s poem “Because I Could not Stop for Death” she uses a variety of poetic devices to enhance the feeling in the poem. In the poem, Dickinson writes, “ The Carriage held but ourselves/ And Immortality.” (3-4) she is using personification when giving immortality human qualities as he is supposedly riding in the carriage along with her and death.
