Elvis Presley, the rockin’ rockstar that lost it all in the blink of an eye. Elvis used to be dirt poor when he was younger. But when he graduated high school he went to a recording studio and recorded his voice. His voice made him a famous singer and even a movie star (Hardinge 4).
On January 8, 1935 Elvis Aron Presley was born. Elvis had a twin brother named Jesse Garron Presley, but he died a few hours after he was born (Denenberg 4). Elvis’ family was very poor. They had trouble getting money. Their family was so poor they had to wear rags as shoes (Hardinge). Vernon Elvis Presley did not have a job skill or many skills at all. Most days he spent his spare change from work on alcohol (Denenberg 5). Gladys Presley was Elvis’ mother. In the beginning of his career he worked at a machinist shop and then on an assembly line (Denenberg 23). Elvis had a friend named Sam who also loved music. Sam opened his own place and began recording music (Denenberg 24). One day Elvis walked into Sam’s studio and asked if he could record a song. Elvis wanted to record a song so he could see how he sounded (Denenberg 25). Elvis’ voice was heard and he started recording music (Denenberg 25). But before he started making his indelible mark in the sands of time, he started out from very humble beginnings, under the care of his loving, working class parents. Elvis Aaron Presley was born January 8, 1935, in Tupelo, Mississippi to Gladys and Vernon Presley. All-in-all Elvis’s career was long and productive. He has sold more records then anyone else ever has. He had many gold and multi-platinum records. Starred in many movies and made a lot of television appearances. Elvis has made his imprint on the American history in many ways. He will always be remembered as “The King”. His mother made sure that he was well exposed to gospel music and religion. He performed the ballad “Old Shep” in which he won the singing contest when he was only 10 years old, and on his 11th birthday, they bought him a guitar as his present. With the guitar, he was able to play two songs as a gift to his mother. With his hard work, he was able to come up with “Love Me Tender”, which was his first movie and from there, his fame begun (Clayton 23). Elvis rose from nothing, from a poor family to being a successful star and the king of rock and roll, which lead to his downfall.
Elvis Presley was a successful singer and his singing won him many awards in his lifetime. His talent and kindness also earned him millions of fans and he is one of the most important figures of the 20th century in popular culture. When he died, it was tragic for everyone who loved him and his talent for writing music. Even though there are reasons to believe that he is dead, I believe that Elvis Presley is still alive because there is evidence that proves it.
