Ellen's brother Vance DeGeneres said "I hope it does what Ellen intends, and that's to send a positive message about lesbians and gays in general to the American public”(Marin) People wrote her thank you letters saying that she saved them because they thought it wasn't okay to be gay and they were going to kill themselves. In that moment when Ellen read her first letter she realized that she did something good that will help the world. She didn't care if people thought she was a freak. What she cared about was helping people who were going through the same situation as her. She wanted people to know that no matter what no one is ever alone. Ellen DeGeneres is a very influential person for coming out to the world. The messages that she was spreading to the public helped others and made people aware about the gay community. Not only did Ellen make a difference when she came out to the world, but she also makes a difference on a daily basis through her talk show. Ellen has her own
Andrews begins his narrative by comparing the outlooks upon being transgender to a more normal stance or as his girlfriend (who is bisexual) put it “‘Why can’t you just be gay?’” “‘Why can’t you be normal?’” Being transgender was still a fairly new concept at the time whereas being gay or bisexual was more widely accepted. He affirms the outlook upon being transgender by means of a quote from his current girlfriend “‘Why do you have to mess with this whole transgender thing?’” He
She then insisted that the trans woman "stay in her lane", when in fact, as a cis woman, she was outside of her lane by attempting to define what is or is not transphobic. Her first reaction was to defend her ego.
“Fire away. Take your best shot, show me what you got. Honey I’m not afraid (Chris, Lines 4-5)…” Strength, love, heartache, all words that many people can identify with, but what about mental illness, depression, and suicide. These words are those that humans avoid, pretend they are not there, but in reality those three words effect many more people that was ever thought possible. Over 18.2% of United States citizens suffer from a mental illness (Depression), 6.7% of United States citizens suffer from depression (Depression), and each year in the United States there are on average 42,773 deaths by suicide (American). Now, many people can relate to the words love and heartbreak, but many more can identify with the three words that the world
Elizabeth is an African American scholarly student who was just trying to receive an education. Hazel was a white student who attacked Elizabeth with verbal abuse, as she made an attempt to attend the same school. Decades after the globalized picture was spread through America, Hazel the vicious white women apologized to the black martyr Elizabeth. Many questions arose about why she apologized but that should not really matter, the fact is she admitted to her wrongdoings that haunted her life. Elizabeth and Hazel in 1999 even took a photo smiling in the front of Little Rock High School. They were on a good start to rehabilitation until of course the world and people around them changed things. When the scrutiny began, Elizabeth felt that there was no way that Hazel could have done something so egregious, so casually (“ 'Elizabeth And Hazel ': The Legacy Of Little Rock”)" and started to question which eventually distanced the two. Both whites and blacks criticized their every move as they tried to fix the friendship they never had. It is hard to pull off decades of racial reconciliation especially with the public eye on watch. Elizabeth and Hazel tried, but the continued hate ruined their chances of ever having a friendship. Oprah, the television host and one of the most influential people invited them to her studio in 1999 and was said to have disapproved their
...ng to this day, she is one of few who could compete with the men of hip-hop, but she never pretended to be anything but a woman. She not only sang about female empowerment, but she wrote about being a woman from the insecurities that we as women sometimes feel to the nirvana of being in love. Sensuality and femininity were always as important to her which was her strength, and message to get out to women especially those of color.
" That he speaks of homosexuals and heterosexuals is secondary to his idea that all men deserve to live openly, which involves expressing emotions. Men expressing themselves emotionally can be seen in plenty of other places. If one listens to the radio, they are bound to hear a number of songs about sex, and probably an equal number about love or other emotions. All sung by males. The same is true of other mediums of pop culture, such as movies and television.
...nspired to make a change that she knew that nothing could stop her, not even her family. In a way, she seemed to want to prove that she could rise above the rest. She refused to let fear eat at her and inflict in her the weakness that poisoned her family. As a child she was a witness to too much violence and pain and much too often she could feel the hopelessness that many African Americans felt. She was set in her beliefs to make choices freely and help others like herself do so as well.
Tom Petty was born in 1950 in Gainesville Florida to Kitty and Earl Petty. Petty began to find refuge in music because of his rough relationship he had with his physically and verbally abusive father. He idolized playing the guitar and singers such as Elvis Presley and the Beatles. In high school, Petty began playing in his first band, the Epics, in which he played the bass (Biography.com Editors, 2017). In 1970, Petty began to see that the Epics were not serious enough about the music they were playing and he wanted to expand further than the rest of the band did (Rotondo, 2014). At age 17, he then began playing in a band named Mudcrutch, which was influenced by British Invasion, a band that came from the United Kingdom that followed The
“Never give up.” That's what John Cena says. This is not just words he uses, but words he chooses to live his life by. People can say something as much as they want, but living by them is a completely different thing. John Cena is an inspiration for many reasons. A few reasons that make him so admirable are that he fought and struggled to make it to where he is now even if people didn't always believe in him, he works with Make-A-Wish Foundation and has granted the most wishes as well as partnered with Susan G. Komen, and he's had to fight back from so many injuries to keep doing what he loves to do.
Peter singer argues that it shouldn’t be any reason for Americans to don’t donate money to poor children when they can afford luxuries that are not important for their lives and health. For this paper I decided to write about and present the song I’m Still Standing with music by Elton John and lyrics by Bernie Taupin, the song is a single from the Too Low for Zero album. The song I’m Still Standing is performed by Elton John, the album along with the songs is a reunion of both the song writer and musician after being apart for seven years from working with others. There is two ways to view this song and many audience listeners view the expression of this song to be pretty straightforward; it is about standing your ground in the face of adversity. Elton John who was a homosexual being the muse of this song and showing everyone that he is resilient and going to be just fine. Other listeners can view this song as overcoming a relationship and being ok in the end. Either way that listeners paint the picture the song is strong in its message of resilience and staying strong. While I’m Still Standing is one of the more well-known songs on the album, the whole album covers the context of overcoming life and love, as the Rolling Stone review says , “[Too L...

Dear John was the basic love story with twist and turns. The book started off with a foolish fellow named John Tyree. He had a harder life then others growing up. His mother died when he was young and his father was far from the norm. John became reckless and out of control and that’s when he knew he had to enlist himself in the army. John returned home on leave the summer of 2000. He loved to surf waves and for him this was a relaxing hobby. One day he was relaxing on the pier, when a ladies purse was knocked into the ocean and he jumped off to retrieve it for her. When returning the purse, he soon fell in love with Savannah Lynn Curtis. This was the start of their endless love story. The book and the movie both portray this love story as
In Tory Lanez song “Say it” explains a situation where he is trying to impress a female by lying about not only his lifestyle but also about the amount of money he possess. Not only is he being deceptive of these things the young lady whom he is trying to make an impression on only shows interest in him because he has “money”. Tory is suspicious that this female is more interested in the car and false fame than him. She’s laying on the flirty behavior to get to what she truly wants which is not Tory at all. He wants more than nice words “more than just say it”(A-Z Lyrics) and flirting “less when you do it”(A-Z Lyrics). Tory is hoping that she will prove herself to be more than just a gold-digger. In this essay, I argue that having money will change someone’s perception of you and it will also lead you to being attracted to someone for the wrong reasons.
