Although Ellen has one of the most successful talk shows in history, her career hasn't always been what it is today. After graduating high school she enrolled in college and dropped out after one semester to pursue comedy. She started off her comedy career in night clubs and small coffee shops and before long her career took off. One year after starting in the comedy business she was named the funniest person in America and began touring on a national level. Most comedians make fun of others to get a laugh out of the audience while Ellen does the quite opposite. She stated "Most comedy is based on getting a laugh at someone else's expense, and I find thats just a form of bulling in a major way.

So I want to be an example that you can be funny and kind and make people laugh without hurting somebody else's feelings.” Ellen constantly highlights children on her show. They sing and dance and have huge personalities. Children always cause a better mood when they perform. Ellen is a prime example of someone who stands up for what she believes in. On public television in 1997 she came out with her homosexuality. Ellen was criticized in the press for being “too gay” but she stood firm on what she believed. To this day she is a key supporter in fighting for the LGBT rights. Ellen's mission in life is to create a positive light on the community. At the beginning of Ellen's show she starts off by saying "lets have a little fun today" and ends her show by saying "be kind to one another" this is the basis of what she stands behind. When watching her show it immediately brings laughter and joy to the viewers. At the beginning of her show she dances to a song through the audience creating a fun environment for the audience. Throughout her show she invites audience members on stage to play fun games and activities bringing laughter to everyone. Each day Ellen brings on a new celebrity on the show and often times brings out an audience member on stage to meet their favorite celebrity. Ellen also invites a guest onto her show that has gone through a terrible situation. She allows them to share their story with the world Ellen then gives them a huge check or car to help them get their feet under them. Ellen gives away roughly 1,000$ to each audience member during her 12 days of christmas give aways each year. Ellen uses her show platform to encourage individuals and as a result, she encourages the masses. When people see a person who has lost everything, but is still smiling or looking at the bright side, it impacts how they look at their own circumstances. When faced with difficulties, and we all are, it is inspiring to see positive individuals doing well amidst a storm. She interview two close friends who were there for each other when it mattered most. One was in the military for a season and his friend went to extreme measures to let him know he was thought of and missed. The favor was returned years later when the other friend was paralyzed in an accident. Their story was heartwarming and showed the power of a lasting friendship- in the darkest of times. To see this story, go to (add link). She displays people going through illness and living large- cancer, ALS, and other life altering diseases. They all have a positive outlook. It is contagious and Ellen gets the valuable lesson of example. By showing the world through the many examples every week on her show, she spreads positive energy and is giving the world and "I can do this" mentality. The Ellen Degeneres show is based upon the idea of encouraging others to give back.
Ellen gives of her own life. She demonstrates the big idea "it is better to give than receive." She gives of herself through time, money and influence. She traveled all across the world to give back to less fortunate people. She is constantly asking people to give to organizations. Degeneres has a heart for teachers. She gives books and honors teachers constantly. Again , she highlights teachers who work in not the best of conditions, but have giant attitudes toward making a difference, one by one, in the lives of the children they
reach. Conclusion: Ellen Degeneres has laser precision in the message she is delivering. That message is"Be kind to one another." She accomplishes her message through word and deed. And the reason it works so well is because it is for real. It is her character and it it is full of passion and compassion. Ellen could be doing anything, or nothing. She has made a choice to impact the world around her and to make it a better place. And she is a shining star in a dark world.

Joan was successful in winning Celebrity Apprentice, giving her face time on NBC and allowing her career to pick up again. Throughout life, Joan always looked for the next open door, yet as she aged, and opportunities came and went, she was able to live in the moment and appreciate the opportunity at hand. She never knew when the last opportunity would come, therefore she endured life with inner satisfaction. At times, River’s would show frustration, but she never gave up. Rivers would give back to the community. For instance, around Thanksgiving time, she would pass out meals to those who were unable to prepare food for
