Elisa Lam was a 21 year old Canadian who went to college at the University of British Columbia in Canada. She was the daughter of immigrants from Hong Kong who moved to Canada and opened a restaurant. Elisa was known for her popular tumblr blog, “Nouvelle-nouveau”. She wrote about everything on her blog; everything the thought, did, and saw. She struggled with depression and bipolar disorder and decided to take a trip to the west coast of the United States to get away for a while. Little did Elisa Lam know that her trip would lead her to a mysterious, to this day unsolved, death at Hotel Cecil in Los Angeles, California. Built in the 1920s Hotel Cecil has become famous for murders, suicides, paranormal activity, and many more strange events …show more content…
She checked into Hotel Cecil on January 26, 2013 and was scheduled to check out on the thirty-first of January, but the day arrived and she was nowhere to be found. Hotel staff and guests were on the lookout for her, but still no sight of her until a mysterious elevator video was found on the hotel cameras. In the video recorded on February 1, 2013, the day after she was reported missing, Elisa lam was seen in the very confusing and disturbingly creepy video. The video starts with Lam entering and appearing to push most of or all of the buttons on the elevator causing the door to stall. She stands in the corner of the elevator appearing to wait for the doors to close, but nothing happens. She takes a few steps forward to peek out of the elevator, then quickly jumps back and hides in the corner of the elevator next to the buttons as if she’s hiding from someone or something that is in the hallway. She continues to peek out the elevator after hiding in the corner, she jumps out in the hallway as if she’s trying to scare someone who may or may not be there. She stands in the hallway for a few seconds then slides to the left and then backwards into the elevator. Elevator doors still stalled open, she slides out into the hallway to the left side of the elevator and just stands there barely in sight of the camera. She puts her hands over head for a minute and then walks back …show more content…
Her roommate complained to the hotel workers about Lam’s odd behavior and that it made her uncomfortable. They moved Lam to a single room where they would not have to worry about her bothering any other guests. Elisa was supposed to check out of the Cecil Hotel on January 31, 2013, but she was nowhere to be found. On February 1, 2013 she was seen in the suspicious elevator footage, but no guests or hotel staff had reported seeing her. A missing person report was filed with the Los Angeles Police Department and an investigation began. After seeing the elevator footage of Lam, police and hotel workers began searching for more footage of her on the hotel cameras; there was no other footage of her. No hallway, lobby, or elevator footage showed Elisa Lam except for the one elevator video. Police brought their trained police dogs to help search for Lam, they searched the hotel from the roof to the basement and they found nothing. The investigation began to seem a little hopeless until guests began reporting low water pressure, odd colored, and bad tasting water. The hotel called maintenance to go check the four water tanks located on the roof and inside one of the tanks was the Naked deceased body of Elisa Lam and floating in the water was her watch, room key, and
It all started on June 19, 1990, when Elizabeth Bain suddenly disappeared after supposedly visiting the University of Toronto, Scarborough Campus. Bain’s car was recovered soon after, with a large blood stain on the back seat identified as hers. Bain’s body was never found.
On the morning of December 26, 1996, JonBenet Ramsey was reported kidnapped by her mother, Patsy Ramsey (Saferstein, 2015). According to all reports, Patsy Ramsey discovered a ransom letter on the back staircase of their home in Boulder, Colorado when she descended the stairwell shortly before 6 am that morning (Marple, 2017). Patsy Ramsey stated that she immediately ran back up the stairs into JonBenet Ramsey’s bedroom, after reading the first portion of the handwritten note, discovering that she was not in her bed. JonBenet Ramsey’s father, John Ramsey, advised that he and Patsy Ramsey both checked on their
The stalker, Michael David Barrett flew to Nashville, Tennessee and Milwaukee, Wisconsin in order to stalk Erin Andrews. He rented rooms beside Ms. Andrew’s rooms and proceeded to enlarged the peepholes of the hotel rooms where Erin was staying, the Nashville Marriott at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, and the Radisson Airport Hotel in Milwaukee, in order to video tape Ms. Matthews in the nude.
Helen emerged from her room around 11:00 pm asking for a bottle of wine and Mrs. Townsend delivered the wine and engaged in brief conversation while noticing the young man lying on the bed reading. She was very familiar with Robinson and was able to say without a doubt that he was the one that was in the bedroom with Helen. No one saw him leave nor did anyone let him out. Mrs. Townsend testified that a man had knocked on her door asking to be let out, but told him to have his woman to come and get the key. No one returned for the key so there is no possible logical explanation of how Richard got out of the house, nor was a logical possibility of how anyone else could have gotten in the house.
see that she is frightened, we also see that she is just trying to get
Alicia Pereira was the first. In 1972, five-year-old Alicia disappeared after her brother left her alone in a hotel lobby. One minute she was playing around, and the next she was gone. Rand was the prime suspect in this case. Although they never proved Andre killed her, little Alicia was never seen again. There isn't much to his next victim. Her name was Audrey Lyn Nerenberg, and she was 18 years old. Just like Alicia, Audrey was never seen again after the day she went missing in 1977. In 1981, Holly Ann Hughes, a seven-year-old girl did not return home after she went with a friend to get candy from a local store. Andre Rand saw Holly at the store, drove by her in his Volkswagen, pulled her in, and drove off. Holly’s parents filled out a Missing Person’s report. Unfortunately, they never got their daughter back. Why did Rand leave her friend? Who knows why. Tiahease Jackson, in 1983, was 11 years old when she went missing. She did not return home after her mother sent her to get groceries. Tiahease was last seen on August 14th, 1983. This was 12 days after Andre was released from a previous prison sentence. Like Alicia, Audrey, and Holly, Tiahease was never seen again. Henry was his oldest victim, at the age of 22. In 1984, Henry Gafforio disappeared. Some say, Henry was “slow.” Not physically slow, but mentally slow. He was last seen with Rand at a local diner. Now this next

On October 3, 1984 nine year old Christine Jessop was abducted from her home in Queensville, Ontario. Her body was found three months later, fifty five kilometers east of her home, raped and stabbed to death (Fennell, 1997).
In an article featured in the Philadelphia Inquirer on January 30, 1987, titled " A Woman's Wintry Death Leads to a Long Dead Friend ", the body of Frances Dawson Hamilton, 70, was discovered by police after she had frozen to death in her home. Even more shocking was the discovery of a second body, that of Bernard J. Kelly, 84, in an upstairs bedroom. Kelly had apparently been dead for about two years, based on the last sighting by neighbors. The body was found in a twin bed, clothed in long johns and socks and draped with rosary beads and palm fronds. There were also two boxes of Valentine's Day candy beside the body. Hamilton had apparently been sleeping beside Kelly as a second bed had been pushed up alongside his deathbed. (1. Kirsner, 119) (2. Pothier)

Elisa is a trapped woman. She is trapped in her “closed off” (Steinbeck 459) location of the Salinas Valley; trapped in her “blocked and heavy” “gardening costume” (Steinbeck 460); trapped behind her “wire fence” (Steinbeck 460). Elisa is trapped woman, however all of the things that keep her trapped are ultimately hers: “her wire fence” or her constricting clothing (Steinbeck 460). Elisa's inability to step beyond her boundaries ultimately leads to her continued unhappiness and feeling of entrapment in her feminine role.
To do this, she paid close attention to the things in front her, such as all of the skiers zooming and gliding past the trees, which now began to look like ants from above. Sally thought, “This is easy, all I have to do is look straight ahead.” As time progressed, they got closer to the end of the ride. Since Sally felt comfortable with being on the ski lift now, she built the courage to look down to the ground that was now around 200 ft below her. She looked down and she saw a group of skiers looking up and pointing at the ski lift. Sally was confused, and wondering what she was missing out on. She looked back up and noticed that the ride had stopped! In an instant, this comfortable state vanished, as this was the exact reason why she was afraid of ski lifts. Little did she know that this was not a malfunction; the technician that heard the previous conversation stopped the ride on purpose, in order to scare her. The technician’s plan was not a secret, though, as there were cameras right near the controls, so anyone who checked the recorded footage could see it. This event was about to get a whole lot worse for Sally, her parents, and the
The crime scene was then examined and a list of possible pieces of evidence were recorded down. Including a sketch of the crime scene, Anna Garcia’s house, with the locations of all of the pieces of evidence. All of these items listed help develop a theory about Anna’s death. This theory then helped establish a list of possible suspects. The person of interest list included a number of four individuals and each one had a relation with Anna. The list included (1) Alex Garcia- Anna’s ex-husband. They had an unpleasant divorce the year before and in a result Alex quickly remarried a much younger woman, while Anna remained single. Alex and his newlywed wife are expecting to have a baby soon. Although, Alex may be suffering from a few financial
This frustration is evident when Elisa is first introduced. Her figure is described as "blocked and heavy" because she is wearing heavy gloves, heavy shoes, a "man's black hat," and a big apron that hides her printed dress (Steinbeck 330). Her home has the masculine qualities of being "hard-swept" and hard-polished" (Steinbeck 330). Elisa is bored with her husband and with her life (McMahan 455). Obviously, Elisa is unhappy with the traditional female role and is attempti...
