Welding is a very good job to choose to be a career. Welding is jointing of two or more materials through heat or heat and pressure forming a bond between them. Welding is very interesting because it is all over the world. The cars you drive, the desk the student sit in, the gun people shoot in the war, and the buildings we are in are welded on so it can stay together. Welding has different positions as a job.
When the Industrial Revolution began around 1750 AD a process known as forge welding was used. It’s a very simple process that takes two or more pieces of metal and the joint areas are heated. When the metal is hot enough you simply hammer them together until they fuse. This all worked well enough until 1886. In1886 an inventor who was awarded over 700 patents by the name of Elihu Thomson came up with resistance welding. He was someone whom the modern world should be thankful to! Not only did he make resistance welding possible, but we still benefit from many of his other electrical inventions. This was the start of the modern welding age sparking inventor’s minds on how to join metals in different ways. This was the beginning of the end for the mass use of rivets, screws, and bolts to join metals. What many people don’t know is how important these new welding processes were to the military at the time. At the end of the First World War new welding techniques were a closely guarded secret to the ship repair industry. Even today the welding technology used by military contractors and the new alloys produced are a closely guarded secret. Some arc welding processes are TIG welding, Stick Welding(SMAW), and MIG welding. TIG stands for Tungsten Inert Gas welding this means that using tungsten as a electrode and an inert gas, which is usually argon, the weld is produced by creating an arc between the piece being welded and the tungsten electrode. SMAW or stick welding utilizes a stick electrode held in a clamp surrounded by a powdered substance to weld. Mig welding uses a machine that holds a wire feeder within it, the wire feeder feeds the wire electrode through a tube to a gun that slowly sends out the wire as well as a steady flow of inert gas. Tomorrows Welders Thomas Jefferson said, “I find that the harder I work, the less I call it work”. I have often found myself in situations where I needed to fix something but could not because it is metal. I believe this might be why I began to show interest in welding. There is great satisfaction in being able to create or fix a metal object on your own.
Welding is a dangerous job because you can hurt your eyes from the flash if you don’t wear eye protection. Yes pipeline welding dangerous, but it is wrong because it is only dangerous when proper safety precautions aren’t taking place. Welding is dangerous because pieces of metal can fall on you and you can get flash burn. And you can be exposed to gases, fires, explosions, and electric shock. But the only way these things happen is when safety measures are ignored.
Welders can use hand held welders or even robotic welders to produce welds. Both equally requiring a incredible amount of knowledge. They can also fill holes, produce structures and build custom parts for automotive race shops. Welders often work fulltime on shipyards, oil rigs, and pipelines or anywhere else where a specific job is needed. Welders are often required to interpret blueprints or sketches and weld accordingly to fulfill job duties. Arc welding is the most common type of welding today and is what most welders use. Welding started back in the medieval days. But there was only one welding process, and it was called forge welding. Forge welding is the use of heating metal, shaping it (by pounding it with a hammer), then cooling it. People back then had to go to their local black smith go get things fixed. Some tasks required black smiths to be extremely precise, and have an even level of thickness throughout the piece of metal that they are foraging.
Welding can be traced back to the ancient times. One of the earliest methods of welding is bronze age. when ancient people back then had small gold circular were made by pressured welding lap joined together. Then in the Iron Age the Egyptians and people in the eastern area learned to weld pieces of iron together. In the middle age blacksmithing was developed. Blacksmithing is when you weld a piece of metal and hammering it but it was in the 19 century that welding was invented as they know it today.
Being a welder was never in my mind for a career, but that changed when I started taking welding classes at the Dickinson-Iron Intermediate School District. I've been welding for two years and am now enrolled at Bay West Community College for their Early College Program for welding. After I complete the one year program with Bay I will be moving forward with my education. I will be deciding between Ferris State University for Welding Engineering, Northeast Wisconsin Technical College for Machine Tool CNC Technician, or The Advanced Welding Institute. After I complete the rest of my schooling I will also be moving forward to become a Weld Inspector. I do not want to be just a welder I want to be higher up and have a better education, so that
The recruiter told me Tig welding would be the best choice for me but I don’t know if I’m sure on that. I did a little research on pipe line welding but I couldn’t find too much of noting on the website I was on. The recruiter also told me Tig welding will be the hardest and take the longest to learn. I aren’t even tripping about that though because I know that in order for me to succeed something have to be hard alone the way, nothing comes easy for nobody.
Welding takes just as much time to learn and perfect just as if you where in a science class or on a football team. With welding you have to know how to work all machines and work several other things. Plus, welding is a very dangerous job. You can get cut, burned, blinded or blown up. The most difficult part about welding is learning how to work different machines. In welding there are eight different types of welding. There is Oxy fuel welding, Shielding metal arch welding (SMAW), Gas tungsten arch welding (GTAW), Gas metal arch welding (GMAW), Flux-cored arc welding (FCAW), Submerged arch welding (SAW), Electroslag welding (ESW), and Electric resistance welding (ERW). Each one of these require you to know different things to be able to work them

(Tungsten Inert Gas) is a challenging process to learn.
Welding is literally building a new world. The world would not be the way it is today if it was not for welding. As you look around, almost everything you see may have been welded. Welding has changed our world in numerous ways over the last hundred years, and continues to do so with the new advances and groundbreaking ways to weld.

Welding is a very important tool used in our daily lives. Welding is the process of joining two metal pieces together by applying heat. A filler helps to make the joint. Everything we use from trucks to houses have some type of welding in them. There are many types of welding careers to choose from. There is a great demand for welders today. My project was to build a table and candelabra out of metal. Most of the metal I gathered came from junk yards and had to be cleaned of rust.
Welding is the best example where heating and cooling of the material cannot be avoided.
