https://www.paperrater.com/ Music is something that in modern society is typically appreciated more than it is analyzed. Most individuals when listening to music can’t name the different elements that can be found in a song. However, when one examines a song it's easy to find what elements in each song or genre that appeals to them. In fact, when discovering what elements are in each song it can create a further appreciation for that type of music. When examining the musical style of certain genres or songs one gains a new insight in to music and allows them to better understand musical thought. The genre of the first musical selection, “Fooled Around and Fell in Love” by Elvin Bishop, is rock. Rock music is genre which developed from the …show more content…
The first element that comes to mind would be its melody. Melody is the arrangement of notes which create a musically appealing sound, the melody is often what people catch themselves singing in the shower. This songs melody could potentially be described as conjunct as the notes sung are generally very easy to sing along with. However, it could also be described as disjunct as the guitar riffs in this song seem difficult to play all at once. This song also has a very consistent rhythm, with a beat that plays throughout. The tempo found here could be described as Andante because when listening to the song its very relaxed and what one would label as music to sway to. The texture for this song is polyphonic, as it has several independent melodies all playing at the same time. This texture just adds to the song allowing it to be as musically appealing as it is, as all the different melodies in it combine and relationship between them really creates something beautiful. The last musical element discussed for this song is dynamics. For this piece the dynamics is mezzo-forte, or moderately loud. When listening to this song the lyrics and singer are not quite muffled but there seems to be more of an emphasis on the actual notes being played as the singer seems to take a secondary role at times. This song when further analyzed musically can really help one appreciate how each element helps create a song that is truly a pleasure to listen
The genre of this album can be described as pop and rock. Yet the album has the musical styles of Alternative Pop/Rock, Punk Rock, and somewhat Indie/Underground. When I first heard this album I already had some knowledge about the songs, but I never took the time to notice how the music sounded. The introduction seems faster than the rest of the album and has a more upbeat sound to it. Although it is not completely rock because they do not seem to be rocking out like some of the other past rockers in the class. Many of the s...
Introduction — includes the definition statement of the full name of the song, the artist, the composer, the date it was recorded, where the version you analyzed was recorded, and other relevant song facts
The next element I discovered was the pitch of the music. Relatively speaking, I would estimate that the majority of the pieces were on the high side of the pitch, and therefore frequency, scale. The range of pitches was moderate, but as stated previously, mostly higher notes were used.
When I first started reading, the chapters in the textbook I was confused about how and why certain song are considered rock and roll. It is easy for me to understand why Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love” is classified as rock and roll. The 2-bar blues derived riff from the guitar in the beginning draws you into the song. Then they hit you with the drums and vocals and your hooked. The thing that I could not understand was why groups like the Culture Club and their song “Karma Chameleon” would be studied in a class about roc...
The changes in rock and roll music reflected the mood of the population in the United States during the Vietnam War. Rock and roll, written as rock ‘n’ roll, music was fully born in the 1950’s and formed from electric blues and gospel music. Rock and roll is characterized by electric guitars, a strong rhythm and youth-orientated music. This music became popular because of the children of the decade. Parents called this type of music “noise.” While parents were listening to calm music, their children were listening to rock n roll.
The texture is polyphonic. It has a slow tempo and there is no presence of accelerando or ritardando. Harmony is a consonant of the word. Melody is conjunct and peaceful. Has a lot of repetition.
Music and the relationships of music have changed drastically in our society. The course of studies and the evaluations of the applications of the technology of music, the making and the listening of music have changed in the way we listen to music, the styles of music in our society and in the media. The importance of the technology in music today, has, over the past century been charted through the study of musical examples and through viewing how human values are reflected in this century's timely music. There are very many different types of music that are listened to. There are readings, writings, lectures and discussions on all the different types of music.
Music is far more than the sum of its parts. It can be thought of in a highly mathematical sense, which leaves one in awe of the seemingly endless combinations of rhythm, tone and intervals that a good musician can produce. Admiring music in this way is a lot like admiring an intricate snowflake, or shapes in the clouds; it's beautiful, but at the same time very scientific, based on patterns. All of the aforementioned qualities of music have one thing in common: they can be defined with numeric, specific values. However, the greatest aspect of music lies elsewhere, and cannot be specifically defined with words. It is the reaction that each individual has when they are confronted with their favorite (or least favorite) kind of music.
The first song I will talk about is “Gravity” by John Legend. This song has a very slow beat. I believe that the song is played in triple meter because there are three small beats and then one big beat. This adds emotion to the song and also sets the tone for the song as well. There seems to be some type of saxophone or other instrument in the background which I believe the artist is using as an accent. It does so by simultaneously playing in the background and adding more emotions. When the song hits 2:25 you can hear a dotted rhyme. There is along not played and then a short not and then another long note. This is actually a part that the song gets the most emotional and it seems to add a little tension to the song. The song does very in speed. The beginning of this song is very slow, however, I can’t consider it has ritardando...
Music: the art of organized noise. The blend of pitch and rhythm combined in different mediums and enjoyed by our ears. A very interpretive art, music isn’t very clearly constricted or defined by one definition. With so many varieties of music, it’s difficult to say what aspect is really the most important. Some people think music’s history and the appreciation of music are the most important aspects to take into consideration. Some think complex in rhythms and melodies make the best music. Some people devote their whole lives to studying one genre of music in order to fully understand how that genre works. While all of these aspects of music are important, none of them can truly be compared with each other on a fair playing field. Music of different genres, eras, and geographic backgrounds were written for different purposes, different people, and different settings. Still, there is still one overarching theme that applies to all forms of music new or old: the way the composer presents his or her creation. The performance and presentation of a work of music is like the icing on the top of a cake. The cake may be the best you’ve ever tasted, but if the icing on the outside doesn’t look appealing or doesn’t taste good, chances are you’ll take a different piece of cake with better looking frosting next time. The performance of music is what appeals most to people. With live performance, an artist must “sell” his or her creation. They must put smile on their face and convey to the audience that this is their music and through the music explain why it’s awesome. They must persevere through whatever the stage, the audience, and their surroundings give them and put on a good show. In today’s popular music though, this aspect of showma...

Music continues to be a colossal part of everyone’s lives and how we express our feelings and emotions. However, music is defined by sounds that are sung by voices or played on musical instruments. This definition alone does not create a full understanding of what music really is. Sounds with rhythm do not make the music but the emotional connection and the feelings that come along with it, do.
Music is apart of every human’s life from day one. Whether the melodic sounds are played from a radio or sang by another person does not matter, music is meant to soothe and captivate people. Although, not every song is “music to our ears,” so what factor decides an individual’s music preference? Music taste is established through experiences and with age.
Since the dawn of time, music has been one of the most important cultural inventions of humanity. The use of music to convey knowledge and share information is so profound that almost all existing societies today have its own musical heritage. Music has always taken a vital place in the development of human culture. In fact, instrumental music and songs are regarded as one of the highest form of art by any culture at any point in time. From the tribal traditions passed on from generation to generation through songs, to the highly commercialized music industry of today, music is proven to be an important necessity which defines humankind.
Music, a form of art, made up of unique and special sounds containing elements of pitch and rhythm can powerfully soothe one’s soul. Firstly, there are different types of music, and each has its own features. These sounds and features are what I admire in music because to me it creates a new form of communication to one’s consciousness. It stimulates our mind and gives it a sense of harmony and peace through the hardships that life poses for us. As a kid, I would always listen to music from any genre, deciding which genre would complement me the most as I grew older. In middle school, I remember going on the computer and finding a website/program where I could make my own beats. From that day on, I spent countless of hours each day making sure the tune sounded proper and pleasurable for my ears. At first, it wasn’t good, but eventua...
