When creating a texture, you must learn to balance the landscape elements. The weight should be equal to the other side for a smooth transition. Your design should not be too heavy on one side.

3. Line – Lines act as the structure to your landscape such as the edge of your path, walkway or the surrounding of your deck. Vertical lines tend to create an illusion of a bigger space such as trees. A horizontal line can also make the space look bigger by lining and accenting the walkways or garden walls.

A linear design helps create a focal point in your landscape design. Straight lines create a more formal appearance while angular lines serve as the framework of your design. Curved lines represent a more dramatic, casual approach, and are more visually pleasing.
