The electrostatic precipitator (ESP) is a machine used in factories, to clean out the waste solid particle, for example ash from the exhaust gas, allowing clean exhaust gas exit through the chimney. The electrostatic precipitator functions by using first allow the exhaust gas with the waste solid particles pass through the Nozzle as shown in the diagram below. Then the exhaust gas passes through inlet gas distribution, which evenly distributes the gas as shown below in a turquoise color, and starts going through the Discharge electrodes and the collector plates, which is shown in the diagram red and blue respectively. The discharge electrodes, which are powered by high voltage direct current, ionize the gas along with the other solid waste particles negatively. The collector plates are also charged with high voltage electricity, but it is positively charged, therefore attracting the negatively charged solid particle, because oppositely charged particles attract. This allows the clean exhaust gas pass through the other end, while the solid waste particles are trapped in the collector plates. Eventually when there are enough solid waste particles collected on the collector plates, the collect plates shakes off the collected waste, where it drops to the bottom of the shaft as shown in the diagram as “Hopper”.

Many cities are currently affected by air pollution and Hong Kong is one example. Hong Kong’s air pollution level often exceeds the recommended air pollution level put out by the World Health Organization, and Hong Kong’s pollution index was at “very high” meaning that it exceeded 101, for 34% of the time (Hunt, 2011). Another example, when Hong Kong excee...

... tag, and lots of regulation in certain countries requiring factories to use one, it puts a lots of stress and increases cost on the factory operators, and might cause jobs to be cut in order to buy and operate the ESP. This might affect economic growth, but on the other hand the ESP will result in cleaner air, and this has increased the housing market price due to cleaner air (Rich 2011), which will help a sluggish economy, for example in the U.S.
Overall, I believe that the ESP has a mostly positive impact on society in general. ESPs impacted positively on the environment, and health, but have both advantages and disadvantages economically. However I believe that co-operations and factories have a responsibility to deal with their pollution, because they created it in the first place, even though it might take a certain amount of money and investment.
Many people are unknowingly exposed to air pollution and have no idea. Some common causes of air pollution are automobiles, factories, landfills and toxic materials. Air pollution destroys the environment; it causes climate change because it greatly affects the greenhouse effect and it causes acid rain. Acid rain contaminates water and destroys animal’s homes. Air pollution has many effects on people it causes coughing, elevates your risk of asthma, wheezing, it can cause diseases and birth defects. It’s estimated “that seven million people died prematurely in 2012 from exposure to air pollution and that air pollution can cause cardiovascular diseases. The use of incinerators has caused protest movements from the Chinese citizens because they are becoming aware of the air pollution that is being given off from the burning of their trash and the effects it has on their health. There have been many reports of premature births and stillbirths of pregnant women that live near garbage incinerators”( Professional Safety, 2014, p.
Such a plan would have a massively negative effect on the economy while having a negligible effect on the climate. Taxpayers whom fund the EPA will feel the burden of the ever-increasing regulations and rules set in place by the Environmental Protection Agency. The agency is overstepping its boundaries, as an agency of the government while other agency’s and branches of the government must reclaim their authority in order to divert such an inadequate
The U.S. has approximately 119,000 companies involved in the environmental technologies and services industry, which is a $782 billion market. Also, firms must offset new or additional emissions with emission reductions by a 5-to-1 ratio. This means any firm who increases their emissions output in one area by one ton must reduce their emissions output in another area by 5 tons (McKee, 1991). Finally, new emissions producing companies will have to start up with state-of-the-art equipment.
Electrostatic Precipitators, as the name suggests, works on the principle of Electrostatic Attraction. Every particle has or can be given a charge – positive or negative. Thus all the particles in the gas stream entering the electrostatic precipitator are imparted a negative charge and these particles, due to electrostatic attraction, migrate to the grounded collection plate and thus are collected. This dust layer is then removed from the plates from time-to-time by rapping or washing it with a water stream. So the complete process involves – Charging, collection and removal.
In the next decades, pollution is said to become one of the major causes for death in many urban cities. Pollution is
Overall, humans impact the global environment in multitudinous ways whether positive or negative. While creating issues such as overpopulation, pollution, biomagnification, and deforestation they also intrude into many other factors such as environmental, social, political, and economic. Problems caused by society itself are leading up to solutions to fix these environmental problems and may also just benefit the world as a whole.

Air Pollution in Mexico City Mexico City adds an estimated one million new residents each year, resulting in one million new additions to the city’s already abominable air quality (Collins, 119). Over the span of a generation, Mexico City’s air has gone from being one of the world’s cleanest to one of the world’s most polluted, as well as the most polluted in its country. The average visibility in the city is down from almost 100 km in the 1940s to only 1.5 km today, removing the once beautiful landscape of the surrounding snow-capped volcanoes (Yip, 1). More significantly, however, Mexico City’s air problems have resulted in a notable decrease in the health of its residents, particularly its children. There are a variety of reasons for the decline in air quality, including factory emissions, suspended particles, vehicles, as well as problematic geographic hindrances.
What is Electrolysis? Electrolysis is a chemical change brought about by the passing of an electric current through a solution or melt. It is also used to produce alkalis and elements such as chlorine and hydrogen. The process involves the addition (oxidation) or subtraction (reduction) of ions in elements. The electric current motions the ions to proceed onto the electrodes. For example, the cations (positive ions) move to the negative electrode (cathode) and the positive electrode (anode) will receive the negative ions (anions). This process, both regular and vise-versa can only be done with the use of an electrolytic cell. The Electrolysis process contains many different components that make this possible. Each and every component is necessary and each plays a certain role. Understanding what each is and what each does is critical in being able to comprehend the Electrolysis process. To be able to use the electrolysis process, one must be able to fully understand half equations. One must be able to write such equations to show what exactly happens during electrolysis. Electrolysis is a very complex process which in turn nurtures the fact that we have to study in order to understand every little detail.
The environmental issue is a controversial global issue, many economists believe that free trade can benefit all parties. Free trade is an important factor in the economy to help it grow. There are some economist that believes that free trade leads to environmental degradation by lowering the quality of production, leading to pollution and waste of natural resources. Proponents of trade liberalization argue that free trade actually increases the quality of the environment and help the environment through policies to preserve the environment.
Vehicles are the main source of air pollution. The following pollutants together are associated with emission are: Carbon monoxide co), Nitrogen Dioxide no2), Sulfur dioxide so2) and particulate matter (PM). Separately, any of these pollutants are understood or assumed to cause adverse health effects. Increases in air pollution are associated with increases in heart attacks, deteriorating respiratory function and increased premature births rates. Information on air quality In the era of serious concerns about the quality of health outcome, more fo...

Starting out during the 1980’s air pollution began a serious problem in China when many large cities underwent great economic developments (Air pollution). The pollution in China took away 25 million healthy years of life from the population (Wrong). In 2010 the pollution from China was ranked seventh on the world wide list of risk factors next to high blood pressure and smoking (Wrong). Making manufactured good for other countries, China undergoes lots of air pollution from the cheap products their making. In 2013 the air pollution had risen 10% in a year , the northern Chinese city of Harbin was largely shut down due to thick blanket of smog (Desilver).
often done by electrical discharge in a pure gas - or gas mixture - in a tube.
At the cathode the hydrogen ions gain an electron. They are discharged and are converted into hydrogen gas: 2H (+) + 2e (-) → H2 At the anode, the hydroxide, not the sulphate ions are discharged. Water and oxygen gas are formed: 4OH (-) → 2 H2O + O2 + 4e (-) The hydrogen gas can be collected and measured. The greater the volume of hydrogen gas formed over a set period of time, the faster electrolysis is occurring.
