Elastic hair bands have been around forever and are a favorite quick styling tool for many hair types. But be aware they can cause hair breakage from wearing them too tightly or for too long. No matter what hair type you have- kinky, curly, straight or thinning- you can reduce the damage done by hair styling accessories. Here are a few tips to wearing hair bands that reduce hair breakage.
Better Ways to Wear Elastics
Goody’s and Scunci make hair elastics that are gentler on hair. Look for terms such as “ouchless, seamless, no-damage and non-metal” when purchasing hair elastics.
Do’s
Purchase a variety of elastic bands, head wraps and headbands.
Throw out bands that are stretched or show signs of wear.
Use fabric-covered elastic pony holders.
Don’ts Don’t wear bands too tight. Styles that are tightly pulled can break hair strands and give you a tension headache. Don’t sleep with them in. Tossing and turning during the night can cause knots and tangles. Better to remove them and use a sleep cap or wrap hair in an old, soft cotton t-shirt. Alternatives to Elastic Hair Bands For versatility in style, try some alternative hair accessories such as hair sticks, clips, pony tail holders, bobby pins and more. You can create updos, twists, buns, puffs and braided styles without damaging the hair. In a pinch you can use ribbons, strips of old pantyhose and other recycled materials to make your own hair ties. Great way to be stylish and eco-conscious.

In “Straightening Our Hair”, Bell Hooks articulates her opinion of black women straightening their hair. “Black women straightening their hair seemed more and more to be exclusively a signifier of white supremacist oppression and exploration” (Hooks 337). Hooks illustrates that racial discrimination of African-American women forced them to want to conform to societies unrealistic white supremacist beauty standards. I agree with Bell Hooks arguments because she supported it with historical and surface reasoning’s on why women straighten their hair.
Having long, healthy hair could possibly be one of the envied genes amongst women. Many women take supplements or undergo surgery to provide them with the added confidence of having luxurious hair. Although, those methods have been proven to work, there are many other less invasive methods available for obtaining beautiful hair. The use of hair extensions have become a popular trend in today’s society. Many celebrities, TV personalities and even politicians have owned up to adding a few hair extensions here and there. Hair extensions can be used to add length and volume to thin, short and receding hair. However, finding a beautician to install them can be bit pricy for the average individual. Being able to install them on your own can not only save you thousands of dollars a year in salon costs, it can also be used as a trade to make some additional cash on the side.
I attended the Broadway show entitled "Hairspray." The show was performed at Neil Simon Theatre in New York City. The setting of the play took place in Baltimore in 1962. At the beginning of the play, we are led to believe that the main idea is about a teenage girl who is struggling to become popular and famous. The main character Tracy Turnblad, who is played by Shannon Durig, is a young, overweight, teenage girl.
The musical Hairspray started off as movie in 1988 written by John Waters and in 2003 was turned into Broadway show and then was re created into a movie again in 2007. Hairspray Is set in the 1960’s in Baltimore and is about a girl called Tracey Turnblad who doesn’t fit into the society social norm. Tracey is an overweight teenager trying to get her dream role to dance on the corny Collins show and the hope to meet her crush who is the popular and lead dancer Link. Tracey has to overcome being rejected to being on the show as she doesn’t have to right look for television. Tracy ends up detention at school and learns a whole new style of dancing from the black students who dance ‘once a month of negro day’ on the corny Collins show, and builds friendships and uses her new moves to win a spot on the show. She now has a constant battle of feeling like she doesn’t belong as lead dancer Amber and Amber’s mother make it hard for her and try to ruin her role on the show as there is a chance Tracey could take the crown off Amber for miss teen Baltimore. Tracey then causes trouble because she can’t understand why black and white people can’t dance altogether on television. She then leads a protest and stands up with the black people and fights for integration on television and daily life. As it looks like Amber is going to win the title Tracey comes in to claim victory and dances for all races and for every kind of person and the black and white all dance together starting a new chapter of beginning as equals.
A variety of simple methods that you can use to avoid hair damage are available. When you go to sleep, wear a scarf or cap. You can also use a satin pillowcase to prevent stress to your hair as you turn. After shampooing your hair, ensure that you don’t rub the hair while trying to dry it with a
...on. Treatments should be applied to the hair as a protector before the chemicals are added because they can apply serious damage to the healthy hair. If the hair isn’t treated properly with several chemicals being added such as relaxers or dye, the hair can easily become dry, brittle, and create many split ends throughout your hair even rising up to the roots. As I was doing my research paper I did experience some difficulties because I didn’t stick with one topic in the cosmetology field like hairstyling, coloring hair, nails, and even trimming of the hair so that caused me to even research harder, but it’s nothing wrong with challenging yourself at times.
A) In her magazine article "Black Women's Politically Correct Hair," Regina Jere-Malanda makes the following observation: "Physically, socially, economically and stylistically, black women's hair is indeed, not just hair. It is a big deal which evoked serious debate..." Explain what she means by referring to her article, Chris Rock's Good Hair, and The Tyra Banks Show video clips screened in class.

Whenever I travel to another part of the US or another country in the world I find myself taking on the vocal and speech patterns of a native speaker. I lose my own way of speaking, and adopt that area's accent.

However, recently, most cuts are extremely difficult or even impossible to do without a cosmetologist. One of the many sections of cosmetology is the cutting, styling, and bleaching of hair.

Contingent upon their concoction piece, nylon strings can be delicate or firm. Strings made with a nylon-center offer a decent level of execution and strength and are less costly than different sorts of materials. Another string material choice is polyester. A polyester string offers less power however more turn and has a tendency to have a stiffer vibe than nylon. Polyester strings can be joined with nylon-center strings to make a solid string bed with a milder vibe. The most playable string is common gut, which is produced using creature entrails. Regular gut, be that as it may, is costly and need's tough.
