My journey through Mathematics has definitely been a Shakespearean tragedy, but this year I am hoping to turn that tragedy around. Most of my previous Math experience resulted in a low B average. Excitement for the challenges of high-school and preparation for college have me motivated to do well. My personal goal for this class is to have an A average every nine weeks. That will be challenging for me, but I know with your teaching and my hard work and dedication it is possible. Math has always been one of my biggest struggles in school. Eighth Grade Math was probably the worst year of my Math career. Solving for “x” was tough, but I didn't give up and now it is much easier. Problems that require several steps sometimes takes longer than

At first, I was thinking what did I bring to the table, when I sat there in class, knowing my math teachers didn’t believe I was cut out for this. I won’t lie, I did give up in the end, because I fina...
I flexed my mathematical muscles by testing my concentration and perseverance. The class comprised of independently timed worksheets increasing in difficulty, homework during holidays, and the tradition of redoing problems until every solution was etched in our minds. Although the class was rigorous, I was presented with the opportunity to respect accuracy and time constraints while honing my mathematical skills.
Since I have gotten through the struggle of doing math, I now feel more confident in doing the work. If you ever get to where you don’t understand math, keep trying to understand it and don’t give up unlike I did. Because now I understand it and it comes to me so easy now. Just pay attention and try not to get behind. Because once you get behind it gets hard to

Children can enhance their understanding of difficult addition and subtraction problems, when they learn to recognize how the combination of two or more numbers demonstrate a total (Fuson, Clements, & Beckmann, 2011). As students advance from Kindergarten through second grade they learn various strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems. The methods can be summarize into three distinctive categories called count all, count on, and recompose (Fuson, Clements, & Beckmann, 2011). The strategies vary faintly in simplicity and application. I will demonstrate how students can apply the count all, count on, and recompose strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems involving many levels of difficulty.
Breaking down tasks into smaller, easier steps can be an effective way to teach a classroom of students with a variety of skills and needs. In breaking down the learning process, it allows students to learn at equal pace. This technique can also act as a helpful method for the teacher to analyze and understand the varying needs of the students in the classroom. When teaching or introducing a new math lesson, a teacher might first use the most basic aspects of the lesson to begin the teaching process (i.e. teach stu...
I suggest that a label for the causes of these feelings [of uneasiness and uncertainty of interpretation] might be the tragi-comic view of man: a view which splits the world today, and gives us the "totalitarian" attitude versus the end product of a European tradition which was chivalric and Christian. I mean by this any or all of the following, or any combination of these distinguishable attitudes.
Math is probably one of the only subjects that I have really struggled my whole life or more accurately, all my years being in school. Math has been such trouble and really challenging because I cannot really remember mathematical formulas and problem solving methods. It is actually a real struggle when taking a math test or exam, especially a final exam. Trying to remember all those methods and formulas, it makes it hard to think and focus on finishing up all the problems on time. Even though I am often am
Many students view mathematics as a very difficult subject since it does not only focusses on numbers but also in letters. Mathematics does not only require the students to come up with an answer but it also requires them to show the solutions on how they arrived at the answer. While in elementary, students were already taught on how to solve problems in a step-by-step procedure starting with what is asked in the problem, what are the given, make a number sentence or formulate an equation and solve the problem. These procedures are called problem-solving which cannot only apply in mathematics but also in other areas such as in Science, businesses and most
...wrong, and knew how to fix it. I just go it and understood it! It came so easy, this has never happened to me before. I realize that sometimes math problems take time to figure out. Not always do the answers just pop out. In these situations, it is helpful to know several different solving strategies. I might have to try different strategies until I find the one that fits.
My immediate short-term goal for this semester and the following semesters for my academic career is to maintain at least a 3.5 GPA in every subject which currently includes College Composition, Trigonometry, Contemporary World Religions and College Success. The purpose of this goal is to maintain an acceptable average to guarantee acceptance into UF.
With new subject matter like Core math, parents are finding it difficult to assist their children with their homework and other studies. Core math was not introduced until 2010; therefore, not only is it new to the students, it is unfamiliar to the parents as well. However, Core math is only one example of the subjects that today’s children are having a difficult time understanding.
