Rudeness is something we all experience in our lives. It could be someone not holding the door for you or someone “ cutting you off” while your driving. In some way you have dealt with rudeness at one point in your life. Have you ever wondered why people are rude? Rudeness is something that we all do sometimes without even noticing, but it’s something we can all control. According to Jennifer Harper’s article “ Whatever happened to nice? – Society is Meaner, louder and ruder, studies find”, the Emily post-institute stated the reason for the rudeness is “ the influence of coarse TV, films, and music; “obsession with self”; the constant intrusion of e-mails and cellular phones; and “ the need to do everything fast.” So what it basically meant is that as a people focus on what’s going on in our own lives and give no mind to other people that are around and that’s what causes the rudeness some of else experience in our daily lives. One effect is that being rude makes everyone feel annoyed. According to Jon Cohen and Gary Langer’s article “ Poll: Rudeness in America, 2006” they conducted a poll about the types of bad behavior people may meet in their daily lives and see how often people are bothered. It stated the following: people being rude and disrespectful bother 83% of people sometimes, but …show more content…
For example, I was at a local Dollar General and I need to get some milk. When I finally got the milk and I went to for it, the cashier just looked like someone killed her whole family and had no one. She didn’t say “ Hi” or “ Was everything ok?” when I went up to the register, it just seem that she did not want to be there. She did not say a single word through the process. When I finished and left the store I said to myself “ Wow she was so kind to me and it seems like she loves the
Dianne Hales wrote in the article a quote by Sybil Evans “since we’re always running, we’re tense and low on patience. And the less patience, we have, the less we monitor what we say to people and how we treat them.” Dianne Hales wrote that dangerous eruptions of mad angry in any city on earth. Dianne Hales wrote that the recent period of significant output within a population by productivity increases, sales increases, wage increases and rising demand may cause people to go crazy and not act their selves and people are living 24/7/365. The quote means, today people have so many things to do in a 24 day that they are tense and because of that they are low on patience. Low on patience can make people eager and just desire to get things done and that can contribute to being rude to other people. I concur with this statement from Dianne Hales and Sybil Evans. I do feel people are low on patience and that people can become rude to other people. I once seen a guy low on patience and got rude someone. For example, I was in line on iPhone 6 plus launch day at a local Apple shop and there were hundreds of people in line. They were waiting for the line to move and get the new iPhone. There was a guy behind me and he looked like he was getting eager and he started to yell across the room to move. He was fidgeting and started to push me forward. Lucky for me a security guard discovered him and grabbed him out of the long
People go on and on about how they wish that others would be nicer or more helpful, yet they themselves are rude, inconsiderate, and could care less about other peoples
Another possible reason for these types of manners could merely just be malice. While it would be nice to believe that all people have good in themselves, seeing how some people treat those who work in retail leaves a gap in that argument.
I always remember what my grandmother said to me, “Be careful what you say, what words you use because they can destroy or give hope. Once they are said never could be deleted it from people’s hearts.” That day I learned that words are powerful. According to the article “Free Speech: Westboro Church Supreme Court Case First Amendment” in Christian Science Monitor, author Warren Richey discusses about The First Amendment to define what is offensive and it shows historical facts where the Supreme Court is using the First Amendment to resolve the cases about offensive speech. Also, the author describes people in favor and against of offensive speech. The author concluded that offensive speech should not be banned because free speech is the free
In the last couple of years the rudeness of Americans has increased dramatically. It especially seems that the children of America have become ruder. This leads one to wonder if America will just become even ruder or will the manners of the American people improve.
According to Millie (2011) one of the most common actions in rudeness is based on the desire for revenge as a way for the victim to get even. As a result, people tend to strike back without making a conscious decision (Caldwell 1990). Evidence shows that when people experience rudeness in a direct way, their cognitive thinking is affected in tasks such as attention, creativity and decision-making (Porath & Erez 2007). In another study, Porath and Erez (2011,) examined how rudeness affects people’s counterfactual thinking. In this study, participants were given three identical tasks. What varied from each condition was the source and the forms of rudeness that they experienced from the experimenter or a stranger. For example, in the first group, the experimenter was rude to participants for being late to the experiment. In the second group, the participant encountered a stranger who threatened them before they arrived at the experiment. In the last group, the participants were asked to simply think about how they would have reacted to various types of rudeness. In each situation, the number of possible uses for a brick measured the participants’ performance. The results of this study concluded that participants who experienced rudeness, not only produced fewer ideas than those who did not experience rudeness but their ideas were also less diverse and less creative.
One way the individual faces such rudeness is on the Internet. Many people are much more willing to abandon their obligation to be polite when sitting behind their computer, especially when the website includes the user’s anonymity (Clay). One study shows that individuals who frequent websites in order to argue, rant, or vent actually tend to “score higher on anger measures, express their anger more maladaptively and experience such negative consequences as verbal and physical fights more frequently than others” (Clay). Although this statistic may be true, correlation cannot be used to find causation. It very well may be that people who already have anger problems might be the ones frequenting these websites, and their anger problem is the reason they are frequenting the websites instead of the websites causing the anger problem.
I've learned a lot of things from watching Winnie the Pooh and they've helped me a lot in life. Winnie has taught me to always be kind, to include everyone, to love everyone equally, and share. I try to always keep these things in mind and be kind to everyone, but sometimes you can't always be kind to people that you just can't get along with, and I've learned that. In 6th grade I made a friend with someone and it turned out that that person wasn't the best person in the world. They started talking about me and my friends behind our backs and I learnt that even if you are kind to some people they won't always return the favor. However, I do try my best to be polite to everyone, though when I do try to be polite I may come off as shy because I am a very shy and quiet person when I'm not with any of my friends or
According to the ABC News survey, 73 percent of Americans feel manners are worse today than they were 20 or 30 years ago. Although character education is a hot topic in schools across the nation, education in maners often receives scant attention; with growing demands on teaching time, etiquette is rarely a priority. It might be a mistake to ignore the adage that actions speak louder than words, however. Teachers who teach manners said they notice a real difference in students' attitudes, in the way they treat one another, and in their schoolwork. Although some might say that manners are to be taught from the parents, the places children learn to socialize are not only at home, but also at school; it is their second home. A child either learns different moral values from his home or from his school. These days with both of the parents working, a child rarely gets the opportunity to learn moral and social values from home. In the past, although the parents were working, grandparents took care of their grandchildren and taught them important lessons of life, however, this is no longer prevalent as more and more families get unconcerned of teaching manners to young people. Of course not all the parents are failing to teach manners, but it is surprising to see many adults who do not know the correct ways of being respectful. Then how are they to educate their children? Thus, the only way we can ensure our future generation to learn etiquette is by schools.

Social media is a relatively new phenomenon that has overtaken society, revolutionizing everyday life for individuals across the globe. It has become a place for people to share their ideals, to meet new friends and to reconnect with old friends. Social networking sites offer people new ways to communicate via the internet, whether it is through a smartphone, laptop, tablet, and etcetera. The sites can vary from posting pictures, tweets or even 6 second videos. They allow people to create their own online profile and to create a display of contacts, often called “friends” or “followers”. The rapid growth of social networking sites in recent years has resulted in its development as a mainstream form of communication for students. Schools all around the world are using more and more technology every day. All of the new developing technology in the daily lives of students has both a positive and negative impact on education.
Walking down the street, I was enjoying my weekend at the shopping center trying to find some outfits to prepare for the chilly weather in Pennsylvania. I saw two men talked vivaciously outside the coffee shop and a college student passed by me with fast food in his hand. The bus stopped in front of me before I entered the nearest store. Someone, who gestured me to go through, held the door for me as an act of social niceties. As soon as I walked into the store, the sale associate greeted me with a big smile. Learning from bad experiences, I was always on my guard against store employees because it upsets me when they approach me with bland interaction. I was very impressed when the sale associate put great effort into finding the clothes I want and engage me in a friendly and stress free environment...
