Effects of Procrastination
Bad habits are something people do over and over again, if not the person would feel uncomfortable. One bad habit that can affect someone’s life significantly would be procrastination. According to Cambridge Dictionary, procrastination is “ to delay doing something.” Procrastination happens when someone does not do something that needs to be done at that moment. Everyone procrastinates it does not matter if they’re a kid or an adult everyone can find something more entertaining than their work. Although for some procrastination can be a chronic problem , procrastination is a strong, strange force that keeps them from completing an urgent task. It can be the worst enemy to most people. Procrastinating can be one of the most frustrating habits to overcome but it is possible. It is also

It can be linked to anxiety, which can cause health issues. When people procrastinate all they are really doing is postponing their work and setting themselves self up for problems. Procrastination causes people to waste their time unnecessarily. People tend to postpone tasks thinking they will have time to do them later when in reality they do not. When people fail to do their work they end up missing the deadline for the task. Procrastination can also ruin someone’s potential, career and mood. By procrastinating people can ruin a reputation or even a job they have. Procrastinating can also make people lose their friends; they will eventually stop getting invited out because they are putting off things making them always late. It can lower self-esteem, people can start to feel bad and start to question what’s wrong with them because they can not complete the task. According to Social Anxiety Institute “The secret here is not to wait until you feel better first you start. You have to make the start first, and then the feelings of accomplishments and competence will follow
Procrastination has become such a bad habit for me. It is very hard to stop procrastinating everything once you have gotten into the habit of doing it. Once I had a term paper due for my religion class. It was to be ten pages long and we were told to spend a lot of time doing it. Being the procrastinator that I am, I waited to the very last minute to do it. I waited until the night before to do most of it. Needless to say, I was up very late that night. In this class there was always a part of the paper due on a certain date before the final paper was due. Having things due before the final paper is due keeps me on task and keeps me from procrastinating until the day before the paper is due. There was one paper which we had to get sources for a while before the paper was due and it forced me to keep up with the paper, rather than let it go to the last minute. This class has taught me that the earlier you start the more positive your final result will be.
Have you ever heard friends or family members brag about how productive they were that day, or week, or month? Those people really bother me. And it's because I can never get anything done; it takes me a long time to accomplish the simplest tasks. I pride myself in being a grade A procrastinator. My three specific examples will help anyone perfect the arts of wasting time and procrastination. Then you can brag about how extremely unproductive you were today.
One poor habit that I happen to share with most college/ high school students in particular is procrastination. This curse of pushing off my work led me to a lower GPA in high school than I really should have gotten. It wasn't because that I didn’t understand my classes; it was just the lack of time and effort I put into them. Not only did prolonging my work affect my grades, but it also altered my life. In fact, procrastination led me to not reaching my goals such as going straight to a four year college. Sadly, this trapped me into showing no great
A simple task, goal, or dream hinders somewhere in their lifespan while they lie distracted from temporary pleasures. With no deadlines in their lives, procrastination can slowly take away from what a person seeks in their future. One could set out to pursue a dreamed career only to find that it’s taking them quite a long time or it doesn’t work out at all. This is the deadliest form of procrastination, because their is no due date for what a person sets out to accomplish. Having no deadline, one could get caught up on less important things and fall a slave to procrastination. This will most likely bring fear, anxiety, frustration, guilt, and other negative emotions into a person’s life. In other words, procrastination is like a credit card. It’s lots of fun to enjoy the instant gratifications of not having to deal with something at the moment, until the “bill” comes at the end. There are always consequences to what we do in our lives, therefore delaying anything that we wish to accomplish only adds to this negative
Procrastination might seem as a very basic topic to research about, and even though I might not find the answer to what I need to. One of the reasons of why I chose this theme because is something that no one will be more interested than a procrastinator. Being a procrastinator myself, I’m always making excuses to not work or even to study. Another reason is that of many people think that procrastination is the same as laziness. Understanding the difference between these two themes is very hard because many people don’t know the importance of knowing how procrastination starts. Procrastination has been linked to many disorder like; depression, irrational behavior, low self-esteem, where laziness doesn't appear anywhere close. A procrastinator might have one of these negative aspects, and they aren’t aware and go with that definition of procrastination that the society has implanted. Which is procrastinator are lazy people. For adults, this is very hard to assimilate, and to deal with now imagine in high school how hard it can be, even though there you have a lot of help from other adults. In the university is harder and for some hardcore
What about chronic procrastination -- such as procrastinating on filing taxes for years on end, or inability to complete a relatively unchallenging home improvement project for an entire summer?
The perspective countering previously stated information is biological. Procrastination links to physical disorders and lesions in the brain, particularly in the frontal lobe - specifically the bilateral hemisphere in globus pallidus (Strub, 1989). Research on the physiological roots of procrastination mostly surrounds the role of the Prefrontal Cortex (PFC) (Evans, 2007) . Consistent with the notion that procrastination is strongly related to impulsiveness, this area of the brain is responsible for executive brain functions such as planning, impulse control, and acts as a filter by decreasing distracting stimuli from other brain. Given the importance of the PFC, a dysfunction in this area can reduce an individual's ability to filter out distracting stimuli, ultimately resulting in poorer organization, a loss of attention and increased procrastination. The PFC sends signals to the limbic and sensory parts of the brain. When a person needs to focus, the PFC decreases the distracting input from the other brain areas (Damasio, 1994). Therefore, if there is a problem with the PFC, there is no filter mechanism at work. . This is similar to the prefrontal lobe's role in Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), where under activation is common (Strub,

A. H. C. Chu and J. N. Choi, psychologists, distinguished two types of protracting, they discovered that active procrastination has attainable characteristics that lead to positive personal outcomes (Choi and Moran). These positive personal outcomes are a result of waiting at its finest. People with these adequate dilatory skills have probably learned from their deficient habits in the past that may help everyone know that the view of holding off can change. Writing this essay has changed my view on procrastination slightly, as I can see how it can be good for you. With my siblings, free time is limited. So taking time to do something more entertaining helps me take a break from stressful work. Then when I get back to it I feel more confident that I can focus and finish it. That’s an example of active procrastination for me. Frank Partnoy shows historical views on procrastination, in an article about his book, such as how “The Greeks and Romans generally regarded procrastination highly. The wisest leaders embraced procrastination and would basically sit around and think and not do anything unless they absolutely had to” (Gambino 2012). Those Romans and Greeks were able to enjoy their time of relaxation, using procrastination as a healthy tool rather than a bad habit. Even wise leaders used it! What an amazing realization that we get procrastination from
The definition of procrastination is: the action of delaying or postponing something. Tim Urban, who conducts a speech called Inside the Mind of a Master Procrastinator for TED in 2016, explains that every human is a procrastinator- some more than others. I agree with everything he says in his speech because I can connect with every piece of evidence he claims, mostly including that there is a “Panic Monster” that pops up in your brain when you are close to a deadline and haven’t gotten anything done, especially when it comes from why I’m always so stressed out about school. There are two different kinds of procrastination: deadline and non-deadline. (Urban, 2016) Everyone that I have ever met is a procrastinator
About 4 out of every 10 people avoid facing difficult task and deliberately look for distractions, and unfortunately there are distractors everywhere. When there is a significant period between when you intended do a job and the time you actually did it, you procrastinated.
Most humans have habits, habits in which they do simply because if they do not do them they feel uncomfortable. Procrastination is one of those habits that not all, but most people suffer from. Procrastination means to put off key things to do less important things that could possibly wait. It has been proving that all most everyone procrastinates, but procrastination does not determine what type of person one is. Procrastination is like a virus or a bad cold that does not want to go away. If one does not stop the problem it will get bigger; therefore, if people do not control their procrastinating they will start to do it more. However, the worst time to procrastinate is in college. College students often forget hoe important time is. Being a procrastinator can lead to several different outcomes. Procrastination can led to either good or bad outcomes. It all depends on the person doing the procrastinating. Procrastination is not always meant to happen; sometimes it simply happens because a person is too busy. Procrastination has both good and bad causes and effects, can cause failure, and bad decisions.
The first bad habit we will talk about is drinking. Drinking is not a bad habit when done responsibly. Anyone should be able to consume alcohol when they want, as long as they have a sane mental state and recollection of what they are doing. Drinking becomes a problem when people consume too much alcohol and they cannot make good, rational decisions. When this happens the alcohol content in your blood flow to your brain and affects your decision-making and reaction time. This makes perfectly normal human beings think that they can do superhuman things. Most people end up injur...
A habit can be many things, some good, some not so good. Everyone has habits that they would like to change and maybe improve upon. I believe the majority of habits I have are good ones but some are not. These bad habits are the ones I will talk about.
