Objective:
The main objective of this report is to present metal recycling various processes. The report will also demonstrate the use of automation in these processes.
Discussion:
Recycling metals is a practice that happens everywhere. Metal recycling can be achieved because metals retain their properties after being melted and casted over and over again. The reasons that metals are recycled because it is better for the environment and reduces waste, because when we recycle metals, less landfills are filled and the less ores will be mined for new metals which will lower the pollution from this happening. Recycling metals is arguably more energy efficient because it takes more resources to mine for new metals and to have them processed. The …show more content…

The nonferrous metals are sorted from any other nonmetals that might have slipped through the process. In order to separate the nonferrous metals from any leftover nonmetals an Eddy Current separator is used. An Eddy Current Separator uses a magnetic drum that will flings the nonferrous metals into a separate bin and the nonmetals slide down to be disposed as trash.
After the sorting is complete, the metals will go through a cleaning process that will wash out any unnecessary substances that that a high quality is guaranteed of the recycled metal. For example, the aluminum metals go through a special cleaning process that will clean off the paint that is on them, such as soda cans. This cleaning process uses a composition of acids in a bath to remove the paint from the cans.
The metals are then taken to their own respective furnaces due to each one of these having different melting points and they are melted down. Afterwards the metals undergo a purification process known as the electrolysis process. This process will remove impurities in the metal to improve its overall quality. After the metals are melted and purified they are casted, typically into bars and ingots for steel and into sheet metal for aluminum. Afterwards, these ingots and sheets are then distributed to places that will make use of them for example a car factory that will use these metals for the manufacture of
