Recommended: The importance of plastic and metal recycling
Objective:
The main objective of this report is to present metal recycling various processes. The report will also demonstrate the use of automation in these processes.
Discussion:
Recycling metals is a practice that happens everywhere. Metal recycling can be achieved because metals retain their properties after being melted and casted over and over again. The reasons that metals are recycled because it is better for the environment and reduces waste, because when we recycle metals, less landfills are filled and the less ores will be mined for new metals which will lower the pollution from this happening. Recycling metals is arguably more energy efficient because it takes more resources to mine for new metals and to have them processed. The

The nonferrous metals are sorted from any other nonmetals that might have slipped through the process. In order to separate the nonferrous metals from any leftover nonmetals an Eddy Current separator is used. An Eddy Current Separator uses a magnetic drum that will flings the nonferrous metals into a separate bin and the nonmetals slide down to be disposed as trash.
After the sorting is complete, the metals will go through a cleaning process that will wash out any unnecessary substances that that a high quality is guaranteed of the recycled metal. For example, the aluminum metals go through a special cleaning process that will clean off the paint that is on them, such as soda cans. This cleaning process uses a composition of acids in a bath to remove the paint from the cans.
The metals are then taken to their own respective furnaces due to each one of these having different melting points and they are melted down. Afterwards the metals undergo a purification process known as the electrolysis process. This process will remove impurities in the metal to improve its overall quality. After the metals are melted and purified they are casted, typically into bars and ingots for steel and into sheet metal for aluminum. Afterwards, these ingots and sheets are then distributed to places that will make use of them for example a car factory that will use these metals for the manufacture of
‘Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle’ are what a person chants if someone mentions the word recycling. Nicks J defines recycling as ‘[T]he processing of waste materials in order to make them reusable” (11). Individuals who recycle are not just throwing papers in green bins, or cans in blue; in fact, they are helping the environment more than they can imagine. People who want to preserve and protect their planet take the initiative to recycle waste materials. Rather than throwing away old plastic or glass bottles, aluminum cans, and certain types of paper, one can simply recycle them, and they will go through a cleaning and the remanufacturing process to be remade into a new usable item. There are many benefits of recycling, but a lot of people will argue against it. As Bauer, Mary states, “[Recycling] is a messy process That uses caustic chemicals and produces harmful byproducts and emissions” (12). Regardless, recycling programs have been implemented in many places such as California and Georgia and have been successful. Hence, individual’s states in the United States should make recycling mandatory because recycling will reduce E-Waste pollution, reduce waste, and benefit the economy.
...ions can still be recovered due to the high selectivity, The recovery of metals from these materials is also environmentally favourable, since many of the scrap metals have large amounts of heavy metals and base metals which are hazardous to the environment and the recycling of home scrap means that wastes from production is reduced and therefore in the end there is only a small disposal amount into the environment. (12)
Recycling is one of the easiest ways to save energy for all the living things on Earth. Recycling save energy because using recyclable items that are not recycled can take a lot of energy. Recycling often saves energy because the products being recycled usually require much less processing to turn them into usable materials. Sometimes recycling can also save energy for goods which is
In my opinion recycling is an effective way to reduce pollution. Not only does it help the environment but it also helps our economy financially too. Recycling helps to reduce the amount of waste and pollution and it also contributes to your wellness. Like Brenda Platt and Neil Seldman said “not only does recycling reduce pollution but it also improves public health.”
People need to think about the objects that they throw away, those items can affect the animals around the world. For example, when people throw away the plastic rings that go around pop cans, can kill animals by being stuck around their little necks. So, before people throw those plastic rings out, they need to make sure that they cut a slit into each ring so in case an animal does get stuck in one of them, then they can get out safely. Recycling does not just have to be about plastic, but when the plastic is recycled, Americans can use it for many different things. For example, the plastic can make park benches, plastic crates, and wire tubing. Many people do not understand where all of the recycled objects go, but the objects do not go anywhere they are just recycled to make other things, recycled objects also help reduce the price of the objects that they make. The best part about recycling is the fact that people can recycle almost anything and turn it into something completely different. For example, Keen’s Harvest makes bags, wallets, and totes from recycled airbags that come from automobiles. Another example is Looptworks uses cotton jersey, nylon, vinyl, and recycled polyester to make their upcycled leather iPad cases. Skateback is another company that uses recycled material to make iPhone backs; they use the discarded post-industrial skateboard materials. Vinylux
Therefore, it is essential that societal relationships with, and attitudes towards, the use of metals shift towards recycling in order to ensure long term sustainability of metallic resources,
For most of America, recycling has become a way of life. For some, it is a valiant effort to take charge of our waste and do what is right for the environment and for future generations. For others, it is a forced mentality by government agencies or private businesses who attempt to prove their value by self-promoting their commitment to environmental responsibility. Recycling, in theory, is a positive effort; however, massive recycling programs are not the answer. Recycling programs in general lack an intelligent way to a means, since the costs and environmental burden may outweigh the desired result. Recyclers should only focus on materials that they can process in a cost effective way, and consumers should focus
To start with, tinplate mainly means tin cans that are made from sheet steel and covered with a layer of anticorrosive tin. All packaging bearing the sheet steel recycling logo can be recycled: tin cans, jar lids, for example, jam, honey, gherkin and pickled onion lids, tobacco, cigar or cigarette tins as well as crayon tins. Steel that is collected, sorted and reprocessed then provides the means to produce new consumer goods such as frying pans and sheet metal for cars. The amount of energy needed to recycle and reprocess steel is 60% less than is used to produce new steel. Atmospheric pollution is also minimized by 30%. (www.lesrecycleurs.ch)
One reason is that recycling can help save the earth from waste and trash build-up. For example, fifty percent of roofing and construction on houses is made from recycled aluminum cans. Using recycled materials to produce new products costs less money and less energy than new materials. It can also save valuable landfill space. People have trash everyday. Pretty much anything is recyclable. If you throw them away, it?s a waste of natural resources, a waste of energy, and a waste of money. Instead people should take the time collect these things and put some effort into helping in the world we live in.
The manufacturing process of steel container or drum which is also known as liquid carrying container involves many processes. Although, there are different sizes of steel containers and different manufacturing process in most steel container manufacturing industries lately. There are also thousands of different steel alloy used in the production of steel containers. Furthermore, steel containers are made of sheet metal by soldering, brazing, spot welding, and seam welding. In addition to this, The Process of making steel containers involves rolling of metal sheet; welding the seam, making 90 degree bent on top and bottom of the container, making number of beads (according to size) and lastly reduce the diameter of one side of the container; fitting of lid to the containers, testing like pressure; coating internal (epoxy phenolic coating or plain) and external (stoving enamel gloss of various colour).

Since it takes more energy to dig up and produce Aluminiun than any other metal, recycling not only avoids resources to be extracted from Earth, it also saves energy. 105 million Aluminium cans are thrown out every year and it is enough to build more than 70000 Boeing 737 Airplanes almost 10 times the number of 737’s build. Physically, Chemically and Mechanically aluminium is a metal like steel, brass, copper,
This process saves energy, and conserves resources by reducing the amount of renewable resources that would normally end up in a landfill or in an incinerator. These recycling plants “increase jobs in manufacturing while simultaneously increasing the Unite State’s competitiveness in industry. ”(Recycling | Reduce, Reuse, Recycle | US EPA.) There are also several long term benefits of recycling. For example, “collecting and processing secondary materials, manufacturing recy... ...
The first stages of the plastic recycling process are collecting all plastic materials. There are two sources of plastics, “plastics for recycling come from two main sources: post-consumer plastics and postindustrial plastics”(Wansbrough, n.d, p.4). Post-consumer plastics are unused plastics that are collected either in garbage bins on the street or in the recycling bin. Meanwhile, for the post industrial plastics, it is the unused plastics that come from industry, such as off cuts or damaged batches. Then, this material will be collected by the recycling company and it will be taken to the recycling plant for restructuring activities.
