Environmental Pollution
Pollution is the introduction of contaminants into the natural environment that cause detrimental alterations to the planet. Pollutants are the key elements or components of pollution which are generally waste materials of different forms. Pollutants can take the form of chemical substances or even energy such as noise, heat or light. Pollution disturbs our ecosystem and the balance in the environment. With modernization and development in our lives pollution has reached its peak; giving rise to global warming and human illness. Environmental pollution affects human health along with the health of any species, plant or animal that lives within the polluted area. Many agencies (such as the United State’s Environmental

It occurs due to many natural and unnatural reasons. Our actions release a huge amount of chemical substances in the air everyday. Necessities in our daily lives such as cooking, driving, generating electricity and other industrial activities all require excessive burning of fossil fuels. The effects of air pollution are evident too. Fossil fuel burning releases sulphur dioxide, carbon dioxide, chlorofluorocarbons, and other dangerous gasses into the air. The presence of these hazardous gases in the atmosphere causes global warming and acidic precipitation; which in turn have increased temperatures, erratic rains, and droughts worldwide. Air pollution can also cause harmful effects in human health. These effects can be divided into short-term effects and long-term effects. Short-term effects, which are temporary, include illnesses such as bronchitis or pneumonia. Air pollution can also cause irritation to the eyes, throat, nose, and even the skin. Short term effects can also include headaches, dizziness, nausea, and unpleasant odors emitted by factories and sewer systems. Then there are long term effects, these can last for years or up to an entire lifetime. In some cases air pollution can even lead to a person’s death. Long term health effects of air pollution include, heart disease, lung cancer, and respiratory diseases such as emphysema and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (more commonly known by …show more content…
Land pollution is the deterioration or destruction of the earth 's terrestrial crust, often intentionally or unintentionally as a result of human activities and the abuse of land resources. It can occur when waste isn’t disposed off properly, or can occur when humans use pesticides, insecticides, and fertilizers during agricultural processes. The increase in agricultural land can cause many environmental issues even without pesticides. Agricultural land has continued to expand as the demand for food has increased. The continued growth of agricultural land has resulted in the loss of habitat for many species. Another issue is the continuous growing of one crop or monoculture, for it depletes the soil of vital nutrients used for native plants and can spread diseases throughout the soil. Nutrients can take many years to fully regenerate after a farmer sells their land. Exfoliation of minerals and oil have also contributed to the destruction of the earth’s surface. Since the 1700s, natural habitats have been destroyed, and environments have been polluted due to industrial practices. This has been causing diseases in both humans and many other species of animals. Such human actions have also caused land degradation which is when many large areas of land begin to lose or completely forfeit the capacity to support life forms and
Pollution is causing the destruction of environments and habits resulting in many adverse affects. The types of environments that are heavily damaged by pollution is normally freshwater ones. Polluting factors such as untreated sewage, mining waste, acid rain, fertilizers and pesticides
There are many kinds of air pollution. The ones I want to talk about are the ozone, acid rain, carbon monoxide and toxic air contaminants. Ozone is formed when hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxide react in sunlight. Therefore, ozone is at its peak during hot summer days. Exposure to high levels of ozone can have serious consequences on your health. It can cause respiratory disease, loss of pulmonary elasticity, and premature aging of our lungs. Next, is acid rain, which occurs in the atmosphere in the form of sulfur and nitrogen oxide. These pollutants can have serious damaging affects on aquatic, forest and wildlife ecosystems, as well as deterioration of buildings. Carbon monoxide is another form of pollution. It reduces the blood?s ability to carry oxygen. If a human is exposed to higher levels, it can cause chest pains, angina attacks or even death.
The effects of using fossil fuels are starker than their timelines. Humans release approximately two billion metric tons of pollution annually, mostly from the burning of coal, oil, and natural gas; this pollution is destroying our environment and the ozone layer. Ozone and smog damage forests, crops, and other plant life, and reduces visibility. Other pollutants have the same
Air pollution is caused by many things such as car fumes, burning of fossil fuels,
Evo Morales stated, “Sooner or later, we will have to recognize that the Earth has rights too, to live without pollution. What mankind must know is that human beings cannot live without Mother Earth, but the planet can live without humans” (Pollution Quotes, 2013). Hence, attention must be provided to this devastating issue. Pollution is the introduction of contaminants into the natural environment that causes adverse changes (Wieman, 2013). There are numerous types of pollution, such as light, air, land, water, noise, thermal and radioactive pollution. In an article, the author highlighted that according to Richard Buckminster Fuller, “Pollution is nothing but the resources we are not harvesting, we allow them to disperse because we’ve been ignorant of their value” (Farrell, 1971, p. 52). Pollution is created mostly by human actions, but can also be a result of natural disasters. Pollution can harm the environment of the world and its inhabitants in many ways. Pollution has a detrimental effect on any living organism in an environment, making it virtually impossible to sustain life (Enclyopedia - Pollution, 2008).
Air pollution according to the Wikipedia << is the introduction of particulates, biological materials, or other harmful materials into the Earth’s atmosphere, possibly causing disease, death to humans, damage to other living organisms such as food crops, or the natural or built environment>>. Therefore, human being should be aware of the facts that the environment and all living creatures are dying. They need to understand the importance of natural items, the nature, etc…
There are many types of pollution. The main types of pollution are water, air, soil, thermal, radioactive, noise, and light. The topic for this experiment is Water Pollution. Water Pollution became a problem in the 1900’s when water started being treated like sewage. Earth Day was founded by United States Senator Gaylord Nelson on April 22, 1970 because of 1900’s pollution. Water Pollution also affects humans and animals. There was a Cholera outbreak in 1854, before water pollution became a problem, and a Typhoid outbreak in New York from 1900 to 1915. There are multiple possible causes to Water Pollution. Humans let out chemicals into the environment, and when some of those chemicals
These fuels include coal, oil products such as gasoline, and natural gas. Use of these fuels has a number of harmful health and environmental effects. According to the World Health Organization, outdoor air pollution, most of it from burning fossil fuels, especially coal kills at least 800,000 people each year and causes health problems for tens of millions of others. Technology is available to reduce such air pollution, but using it is costly and results in higher fuel
Air Pollution is when a poisonous or a harmful substance is released in the air. There are many form of pollution but air is one of them, it only occurs when dust, harmful gases or smoke enters into the atmosphere and makes it hard for species like plants, animals and humans to live in a difficult situation because of the dirty air.Air Pollution is classified in two sections, invisible air pollution and visible air pollution.. Hence any substance that makes it difficult for the living things that need the atmosphere is air pollution.Humans have been undergoing air pollution ever since the industrial revolution. In order to understand the causes of Air pollution, it is divided into divisions. Primary air pollutants and secondary air pollutants:
According to the internet human behavior has a very big affect on the environment. Environmental settings such as air pollution, oceans, energy, or noise are all sources that can negatively impact the environmental quality and conditions. Our daily routines have a huge impact on the environment and we do not realize it. New laws that are passing and educating people will help a lot. People are being educated on how to use less water, use our cars less, how to use less energy, and even taking reusable bags when going grocery shopping because plastic bags are very bad for the environment. There are simple solutions that can help in getting started with these efforts. Every little step and effort we make in our daily routines count.
What is air pollution? Air pollution is the introduction of chemicals, particles, biological materials, or other harmful materials into the Earth's atmosphere, possibly causing disease, death to humans, damage to other living organisms such as food crops, or the natural or built environment. Some air pollutants that are poisonous are extremely dangerous when inhaled. Air pollution takes place when our air accommodates gases, dust, fumes or odor in harmful amounts. That is, amounts which could be damaging to the health or well being of humans and animals, causing damage to plants and or materials. Substances that cause air pollution are called pollutants. Pollutants that are pumped into our atmosphere directly, pollute our air. These are called primary pollutants, which consist of carbon monoxide from car exhausts and sulfur dioxide from the combustion of coal. Examples of secondary pollutants would be ozone, nitrogen oxides, and sulfur dioxide, when combined cause acid rain. Smog, a more formerly known from of pollution qualifies as a primary,...
Efforts to improve the standard of living for humans--through the control of nature and the development of new products--have also resulted in the pollution, or contamination, of the environment. Much of the world's air, water, and land is now partially poisoned by chemical wastes. Some places have become uninhabitable. This pollution exposes people all around the globe to new risks from disease. Many species of plants and animals have become endangered or are now extinct. As a result of these developments, governments have passed laws to limit or reverse the threat of environmental pollution.
Every other day a new industries are being set up, new vehicles on roads and trees are being cut to make way for new homes. All of them, indirect way lead to increase in CO2 leads to melting of polar ice caps which increase the sea level and pose danger for the people living near coastal areas. Pollution can have an impact in our health not only affects people with impaired respiratory system such as asthmatics, but very healthy adults and children too. Exposure to pollution for 6 to 7 hours, even at relatively low concentrations, reduces lung function and induces respiratory inflammation and, healthy people during periods of moderate
Pollution is a massive problem that the earth faces. Pollution is the action or process of making land, water, air, etc…, dirty and not safe or suitable to use. Pollution of air, water, and soil are the most complex issues. Various types of gases and toxins that are released by industries
Today talking about environmental issues lately to be like a common topic discussion until people take it for granted. However, the world facing a complex environmental problems related to each trouble that connected to one another and come out with greater impacts to the environment and humans. This is because the effects of environmental only can be seen in long term period rather than immediately result show up. Environmental issues must become one of the controversial matters in the society in order to make people know the truth what the world currently facing. There were a lot of environmental disaster happened such as climate change, global warming, various of pollutions, earthquake and etc. the rise of environmental issues begin with this urban development occur through several countries following with the technologies equip along. For sure, development will cause a huge negative impact to the environment if it deals without a care. Besides, the environment is the place in the ecosystem to hold and use in finding resources to continuously survive in this world. Thus, the finding and digging for the resources which happening extensively without preservation will not restore the surrounding similar with before. But then, the change cannot be refuse and people need to take an action to save the threaten the world and the ecosystem from being extinct. If each country has own output in causing an environmental problem, then consider the world to hold all the damage occurred. Exposing the effects of environmental issues throughout the world, make people realize the important to take care the environment.
