Animal Testing: Necessary Evil or Just Evil? Many businesses today test their products on animals before putting them on the market, which creates a controversial issue. The effects of animal testing can be beneficial in some ways but there are other efficient ways to test these products without putting the life of an animal in harm. Photos have been revealed to the public of the after-effects on animals from certain products, and after seeing these photos it should make everyone realize the cruelty of this and put a stop to animal testing. The positive outcomes of animal experimentation are far greater than the possible destruction of an animal’s life because a human’s life could be saved. Animals that are used for testing do not have a specific purpose in life that could outweigh the effects their life could make if used for research. There is the argument though concerning the effects of using them animals and how it affects the food chain. Some animals and rodents may not seem to have a specific purpose in life but are a part of the food chain. This is something that needs to be look at and if there is no detrimental effect on the food chain then using them for research would not affect the environment. For many years, animals have been treated very differently than humans do; therefore, this makes animals very susceptible subjects. If animals did have the rights humans did, then hunting would be outlawed and everyone would become vegetarians. Animals have generously been given acts and laws to prevent any harm to be done, such as the Cruelty to Animals Act in 1876. There have been benefits from using animals for research, such as finding cures and treatments. Many research associations have said that nearly every medical breakthrough has resulted directly from animal research. Animal testing has also allowed for the advancement in the medical field for organ transplants and knee and hip replacement, both of which have provided a better quality of life for the recipient. Because animals are a lot like humans, their reactions are very similar. This is one of the main reasons animal testing is still being done.
