Side Effects of Adderall
Up to 30% of children and 25-40% of adults with ADHD have a co-existing anxiety disorder. ADHD is an acronym for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. It is a very common disorder in the brain that is very common within people of all ages, but mostly children. There isn’t any way to cure it, but there are ways to help it, like taking medication, going to therapy, etc. Adderall is a common drug used for ADHD and if used incorrectly, can produce many negative side effects, including the state of your mental and physical stability.
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is where there are significant problems of attention, hyperactivity, or acting impulsively that are not appropriate for someone’s age. ADHD is one of the most commonly studied and diagnosed psychiatric disorder in children and adolescents, but the cause in the majority of cases is unknown. Research had documented that adolescents and young adults with ADHD are at increased risk for cigarette smoking, but there hasn’t been much attention as to why this risk exists. Most illegal users reported using ADHD stimulants primarily in periods of high academic stress, usually during finals week, and found them to reduce tiredness while increasing reading comprehension, interests, cognition and memory. ADHD meds have the same potential to help someone without ADHD improve concentration just as testosterone has the ability to help athletes boost their performance.
Adderall is a very common drug that is abused by college students and young adults. It is defined as a “single-entity amphetamine product combining the neutral sulfate salts of dextroamphetamine and amphetamine saccharate and I-smphetamine aspartate” (Stolz 585). Approximately 20-...

It is said that the best natural stimulant is exercise. The drug has many side effects that make someone dependent of others and need someone. There are many things that make the drug addictive to people, especially to college students that have a lot of finals and the stress of balancing school work and a social life.
Adderall is a useful drug when used correctly at the right moment. There are serious cases when people, mostly college students, don’t need the drug, but use it to stay focused on studying and homework. They’re typically cheating on tests when the drug is being used without a prescription from a doctor. They soon become dependent of the drug and have issues in the near future. Adderall can be a helpful drug, but if used incorrectly can lead to a bad mental state, but if you do need it, it could be the key factor in making your life successful.
Adderall is a drug that is approved to treat Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) along with narcolepsy. Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is the most common neurobehavioral disorder of childhood as it affects an estimated 5% to 7% of school-age children. Adderall has a structural and action resemblance to other recreation drugs methamphetamine, which is commonly known as crystal meth, and ecstasy.
ADHD is believed to be caused by abnormalities in the dopamine neurotransmitters in the brain (Berne 4). The symptoms of ADHD include inattention, impulsiveness and hyperactivity that are inappropriate for a person's age level. In other words, the patient’s brain is like a light constantly going off and on at the worst possible times. Although there is no cure for ADHD, treatment can help control symptoms. Stimulant therapy is the most commonly used type of treatment. These drugs improve ADHD symptoms in 70 percent of adults and 70-80 percent of children shortly after starting treatment (ADHD 3). Adderall RX, or its formal name of Methylphenidate, is the most common form of treatment for ADHD. In an article by Dr. Phillip W. Long, he states that, “The mode of action in man is not completely understood, but meth...
In a 2012 study published by the Journal of American College Health, by senior year, Adderall and other prescription stimulants are offered to two-thirds of college students. Furthermore, about 31 percent are taking the drug in hopes to enhance their concentration to get better grades (Zadrozny 2013). Students who take Adderall that don’t have ADHD report that they have a increased sense of focus, motivation, and concentration, which are all the ingredients you need to have for a successful all-nighter to help on providing an added boost before an exam. With characteristics such as difficulties in focusing, reasoning, problem solving and planning, ADHD is a neurobehavioral-based disorder and is associated with an insufficient amount of dopamine (Student Health: Drug & Alcohol Abuse among College Students 2015). Adderall is enticing to students because they believe it can help them perform enhance their academic skills. On the other hand, some students abuse the drug because simply for the high it gives
One of the main treatments for ADHD is the use of medication. Primarily the main medication used is stimulants such as amphetamines. Amphetamines have been used in this treatment due to its effects of reducing the symptoms of ADHD such as behavior and irritability (Hodgkins, Shaw, McCarthy, Sallee, 2012). A major concern though with the use of amphetamines is...
Duran had already been on probation with the medical board of California due to similar activity in the past. There are many ways to get Adderall, but one way is through psychiatrists who do not perform all the basic tests necessary for an adult to get a diagnosis first. A college student may know someone with ADHD and buy some pills off of that person. As crazy as it sounds it happens, and it happens a lot. Students are aware of what goes on but it is accepted because that person is only trying to get their grades up. A college student by the name of Cheyne spoke briefly about what he remembered the process to be like. In his case, he went through his primary medical institution and asked for the prescription. His primary care physician then got him an appointment with a local psychiatrist of whom then they could if applicable prescribe him Adderall. He said that all he really had to do was talk about his feelings and why he thinks he needs the drug, he ended up getting his prescription. Although Cheyne’s story does not and cannot apply to everyone who attempts to get a prescription for Adderall, many people will try. Cheyne actually has ADHD and Adderall indeed helps him, but that is because it adjusts certain chemicals within the brain. Amber Dance author of “Smart drugs: a dose of intelligence” writes that even athletes are trying to take Adderall in order to stay focused. Specifically, she talks about gamers who take Adderall to try and stay awake and focused to continue playing. Yes, there is some research to support the fact that Adderall and stimulants alike may have a small positive effect on people the majority of the information found that it affects people who do not have ADHD negatively
Surprisingly, some people actually take this drug on purpose for the euphoric high that it produces. This practice is also extremely dangerous because in addition to the side effects, the drug can be addictive. This means that the longer you use it, you need to use more and more to reach the same level of “high” and if you stop taking it, you go through withdrawal.
Most people believe ADD and ADHD people have the same emotional and behavioral tendencies. Emotionally, ADD and ADHD is either at high point or low point there is no in between. Both ADD and ADHD adolescents and adults are prone to having severe anxiety. This causes a person with either disorder to feel frustrated with themselves. Case in point,
Stimulant drugs are widely used to treat the symptoms of ADHD. These stimulants dramatically reduce the hyperactivity of sufferers and improve their ability to focus, learn and work. Such medication may also improve physical coordination, for instance handwriting and sports. Research completed by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) suggests that these medicines may also help children with an accompanying conduct disorder to control their impulsive, destructive behaviours. The three medications that have been proven by the NIMH to be most effective in both children and adults suffering from ADHD are: methylphenidate (Ritalin), dextroamphetamine (Dexedrine or Dextrostat), and pemoline (Cylert). (NIMH 1999) Yet there is currently much research on the treatment of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, such as t...
According to the current President of Attention Deficit Disorder Association (ADDA), the medication prescribed by a doctor cannot lead to drug abuse and addiction.
College can be a challenge with endless papers, tests, and other tasks. A pill that allows extreme focus helps accomplish necessary tasks. Adderall is a prescription medication given to patients with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (Jaffe). However, this drug has become known as a “smart drug” around college campuses (“Daily News & Analysis”). About 6.4 percent of college students have taken Adderall without a prescription (Carver). At more competitive schools, about twenty-five percent of students have taken Adderall (Pantovich). Students take the drug with hope to improve a grade. However, in the long run, the student only hurts himself or herself.
ADHD, or Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, is one of the most common childhood disorders and can continue through adolescence and adulthood. There are many symptoms associated with ADHD but the most common include difficulty staying focused and paying attention, difficulty controlling behavior, and hyperactivity. Scientists are not exactly sure of what causes ADHD but they are more comfortable with the idea that a lot of different factors play a role in its development, such as, genes, environment, brain injuries, sugar, and food additives. The most widely used treatment is the drugs but this is not the only way to treat ADHD.
Without contrast, the primary reason for drug abuse in individuals comes from the conscious state of addiction. According to Webster’s, addiction is described as “the fact or condition of being addicted to a particular substance, thing, or activity (Hacker, 2011).” Sure, human nature’s desire to conform to peer pressure might cause one to first try a certain drug, but the euphoric mental states found in drugs mentally trap many individuals into becoming dependent upon these sensations. With that being said, these sensations vary depending on the type of drug used.
ADHD can be treated in a couple of different ways. ADHD is a disorder that can not be cured. Symptoms of ADHD are controlled with medications, various types of psychotherapy, education or training, or a combination of treatments. With one of these treatments or a mixture of treatments people with ADHD can learn to be successful in school or the work environment and have productive lives.
This could lead to hallucinations, paranoid delusions, and obsessions. (Amphetamine) Examples of amphetamines include adderall, benzidrine, and dexedrine. Students often abuse prescriptions for adderall as a study tool. I’ve known students at my previous school in Miami take adderall during every exam when they weren’t even prescribed it, which is a perfect example of amphetamine abuse. I’ve even heard of students becoming addicted to such drugs.
Abuse can cause countless medical problems to the body. A person who is addicted will continue to stimulate themselves regardless if they are aware of the negative chain reactions. Once addicted, it becomes difficult to stop due to how the body has become dependent. Health will be harmed the more a stimulant is used. Health effects include: cardiovascular disease, strokes, cancer, HIV/AIDS, hepatitis, lung disease, mental disease, birth defects. Mental health is what keeps a person in the right mind to make better decisions and have better control in life. Drugs have the ability to change mood and behavior. If drugs have affected the brain already, the desire increases which changes mental health. Some may not realize that they have been affected their health negatively. “A person who abuses drugs may not realize they have a problem until pronounced effects of drug abuse are seen, often physically. While drug abuse effects on the body vary depending on the drug used, all drug abuse negatively impacts one 's health (Addictions Community). Since drugs create many health issues, treatment is not a simple task. Treatments are hard to obtain and addictions often go
