In this experiment, the effect of pepsin was tested in different environments and pH, with the pepsin “digesting” the egg white. The result to occur was meant to be different levels of effervescence, which correlates with the relative activity of the pepsin. pH has a critical effect on different enzymes, and is clearly evident in this experiment. The relative activity of the pepsin was highest in hydrochloric acid, and lowest in detergent, with reasons of why this may occur. A possible explanation for why the pepsin activity was highest in the hydrochloric acid, due to the body secreting that in the stomach, creating a similar environment leading to the best results, with another example simply being that the pH resembled a pH similar to the …show more content…
Pepsin assists in the breaking down of proteins into small peptides in the use of amino acids, and pepsin is released in the stomach. This explains that the environment must be acidic in order to function properly and with the detergent being in an alkaline state, it would be lucky if there was any activity which resulted from the detergent. This all assists in understanding the effect that pH has on enzyme activity, by showing various levels of pH in affecting the activity of pepsin. Limitations in this experiment may have been an access to materials which were at a quality state, due to it being very difficult to find pure 100 % pepsin and other Materials. Improvements could be made in this experiment by including more materials, to show different levels of pH, which can increase the understanding of why different levels of pH lead to different results in relative activity of pepsin. Perhaps the amount of materials could have been lessened, and altered to determine the amount of hydrochloric acid, water, lime, detergent and sodium bicarbonate could have been changed to either higher or lower …show more content…
For example, for people who have digestive issues, taking betaine HCL assists in balancing your stomach pH and assisting in keeping your stomach in a pH which is optimal for your stomach in order for pepsin to function properly. This experiment shows the importance pH has on the activity of pepsin in digesting proteins in to smaller peptides. This experiment is fairly valid, due to having a control variable and having two materials of pH above seven pH, one material that is seven pH (water) and two materials that are below seven pH . This shows the experiment is valid, due to showing evidence and providing a range of pH levels, which assists in creating a valid scientific experiment. This experiment is reliable, due to a high amount of research being done on enzyme activity. Pepsin has been extensively studied and the experiment that was performed was reliable due to extensive research done before hand, to completely understand the variables involved, why they’re put in place to develop a successful experiment. A variation that could have been involved could have been an addition of more materials pH level, similar to hydrochloric acid such as Vinegar, Lemon juice
Random and systematic errors are both factors that can affect the reliability and accuracy of the results respectively. As all the graphs contained outliers, and hence, scatter, this indicates that random errors were present. Such errors may result from the inconsistent masses of the Alka Seltzer tablets. As these tablets were cut manually with a knife, it is unlikely that the mass of each half of an Alka Seltzer tablet would be the same. Thus, when using the tablets to react with HCl, the true number of tablets reacting would have not been the same as the number denoted for the trial, and with each repeated trial for the same number of tablets reacting, the reacting mass and ratio would have not been inconsistent. Consequently, the
Catalase is a common enzyme that is produced in all living organisms. All living organisms are made up of cells and within the cells, enzymes function to increase the rate of chemical reactions. Enzymes function to create the same reactions using a lower amount of energy. The reactions of catalase play an important role to life, for example, it breaks down hydrogen peroxide into oxygen and water. Our group developed an experiment to test the rate of reaction of catalase in whole carrots and pinto beans with various concentrations of hydrogen peroxide. Almost all enzymes are proteins and proteins are made up of amino acids. The areas within an enzyme speed up the chemical reactions which are known as the active sites, and are also where the
Now the Cheetos have entered the stomach. The process of breaking down carbohydrates has already begun in the mouth and now more chemical and mechanical digestion will take place in the stomach. Once the bolus has entered the stomach, it mixes with gastric juice, starts protein digestion, and absorbs a limited amount. Here the chief cells secrete the inactive enzyme pepsinogen and the parietal calls secrete hydrochloric acid. When mixed together, they create pepsin. The pepsin works to breakdown the two grams of protein present in the Cheetos. Hormones are also present in the stomach and aid in the digestion process. The hormone, gastrin, increases the secretory activity of gastric glands. In the stomach, some salt from the Cheetos is absorbed through the wall. The Cheetos that entered the stomach has no...

Going into details of the article, I realized that the necessary information needed to evaluate the experimental procedures were not included. However, when conducting an experiment, the independent and dependent variable are to be studied before giving a final conclusion.
Potassium permanganate test is performed to see the presence of alcohol in this experiment. Five solutions were tested and out of all of them, aqueous methanol and solutions 4 and 6 changed color during the test, meaning that those solutions contained alcohol. Fresh aqueous aspartame and water do not contain alcohol, which is why we saw no color change. Solutions 4 and 6 were hydrolyzed aspartame and diet soda, respectively, under different conditions, and methanol is a product of hydrolysis.
...s little information about the possible benefits of the study or the side effects. The side effects proved to be significant (gastrointestinal complains, headache, and an elevation of alanine aminotransferase), while the benefits were minimal. This situation emphasizes the need for a balanced approach when it comes to drug clinical trials.
One possible source of experimental error could be not having a solid measurement of magnesium hydroxide nor citric acid. This is because we were told to measure out between 5.6g-5.8g for magnesium hydroxide and 14g-21g for citric acid. If accuracy measures how closely a measured value is to the accepted value and or true value, then accuracy may not have been an aspect that was achieved in this lab. Therefore, not having a solid precise measurement and accurate measurement was another source of experimental error.

The exocrine function of the pancreas is that it produces enzymes that aids in the digestion of food. There are three important enzymes that are crucial in helping with digestion. The first digestive enzyme is amylase. Amylase function is to break down carbohydrates. The amylase enzyme is made in two places: the cells in the digestive tract that produces saliva and the main one specifically found in the pancreas that are called the pancreatic amylase (Marie, Joanne; Media Demand, “What Are the Functions of Amylase, Protease and Lipase Digestive Enzymes”). The amylase in the pancreas passes through the pancreatic duct to the small intestines. This amylase in the pancreas completes the process of digestion of carbohydrates. Consequently, this leads to the production of glucose that gets absorbed into the bloodstream and gets carried throughout the body. The next enzyme that aids in digestion of food is protease. While amylase breaks down carbohydrates, protease breaks down protein. Protease breaks down protein into the building block form of amino acids. The three main proteases that it produces are: pepsin, trypsin and chymotrypsin (Marie, Joanne; Media Demand, “What Are the Functions of Amylase, Protease and Lipase Digestive Enzymes”). Pepsin does not occur in the pancreas but it is the catalysis in starting the digestion of proteins. Trypsin and chymotrypsin are the two proteases that occur in
Pepsi is a non-alcoholic beverage, so the FDA regulates it. Pepsi is expected to maintain a firm standard of the laws. Different markets across the world follow different set of regulations, which are either relaxed or severe
Pepsi was introduced in 1893 by Caleb Bradham as “Brads Drink” which then was renamed to “Pepsi Cola” in 1898. There wasn’t many options for advertising in this era due television not being introduced into households till the late 1900’s. One of the first Pepsi Cola advertisements was a black and while flyer that had a few characters laughing and read “Whoope!!! Zoom!! Drink Pepsi-Cola” at an advertisement from Pepsi, the have bright blue, red, and white colors that pop and are eye catching. Comparing this ad with a current ad and modern technology, you can see that Pepsi’s marketing and advertising techniques have come a long way. Reviewing a recent Pepsi advertisement, you can see that they have made groundbreaking changes to their branding techniques. First I will I will note that their choices in colors (red, blue, and white) for their brand are not only eye popping, but in a way symbolize the colors of America. I am not sure if this was their intent but it sure does standout. Next, there slogan in the ad states “Help Kick Off The Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show”, this ad targets a very large group people because its directly relating to one of the biggest sports event which is Super
Pepsi and Coca-Cola are both sodas, but they differ in terms of the satisfying flavors, the color and the graphic design that represents their two products, and then how Coke makes more money than Pepsi. With that said, you should have gotten the ideology of what we will go further in discussing about. Everybody loves these two very well-known sodas which can inject caffeine into you, which makes you all jittery in filling you up with an energetic energy. Alright, enough of this, let's go straight in-depth in talking about the two rivals throughout this paper of how Pepsi beats Coke in sales, but Coke is usually ahead when it comes to annual net income (Feigin) or how Pepsi is a sweeter brand compared to Coke, though Coke brand is more valuable
